A woman who was covered in bruises was left to collapse alone in her house – despite concerns she was suffering domestic violence, an inquest was told.

The next day 27-year-old Hayley McDermott called her partner at work who went to her house and found her having a cardiac arrest.

She died on May 5, 16 days after being admitted to hospital. Police were called to Miss McDermott's home in Cross River Street, Keighley, on April 18, 2012, over social welfare issues.

The inquest in Bradford heard how during a second police visit the same day suspected blood splatters were seen on the walls, plus cider cans left around and animal faeces were on the floor. It was also noted Miss McDermott was covered in bruises.

Miss McDermott’s father David McDermott asked social worker Linda Brown: “What level of duty of care does Bradford Social Services have to a vulnerable adult covered in bruises, when there's blood splatters on a wall in a dishevelled home?”

While she was on life support, Det Insp David Roberts said a potential murder inquiry had started. Despite two arrests of a past partner and a friend no evidence of criminal involvement was found. However tests did reveal a fatal dose of Amodopine.

The hearing continues.
