Two bailed in couple murder probe
Two people arrested on suspicion of murdering a couple who were shot dead at a house have been released on bail.
West Midlands Police said the 23-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were released "pending further inquiries".
The victims, a woman named locally as Clare Sly, 39, and a 43-year-old man believed to be her partner, were shot at the property in Laneside Gardens, Walsall, West Midlands in the early hours of Friday morning.
Officers were called to the property in Laneside Gardens by West Midlands Ambulance Service shortly after 1.30am.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Superintendent Keith Fraser said: "We are committed to bringing the person or people responsible for this act to justice and our thoughts are with the family of the victims at this difficult time.
"We cannot underestimate the impact an incident like this has on the community but I would reassure local people that they have nothing to fear with regard to their own safety as we are treating this as an isolated incident.
"If anyone has any concerns I would urge you to speak to officers at the scene or give us a call on 101 and ask to speak to your local neighbourhood policing team."
The scene remained cordoned off as forensic examinations at the house continued.
Police later said post mortem examinations revealed that both victims were shot in the chest. A spokesman said: "The 43-year-old man suffered two gunshot wounds while the 39-year-old woman suffered one gunshot wound. Both are yet to be formally identified."
