Dressing down

4:52pm Wednesday 29th November 2000

I wrote to you regarding the dress code of certain Barnet Council members (Times Group letters, November 16).

I did not see the letter published but I did see the comments in Between the Lines.

No, I was not referring to Councillor Jazmin Naghar, who hardly ever wears a pressed shirt.

The same goes for her colleague, who sits to the right and wanders in late chewing gum or eating a sandwich.

She also sits in the chamber with her knees on the desk in front and always seems half asleep. No, Between the Lines, she does fit the bill admirably.

The smarter ladies in the chamber by far are Councillor Katia David followed by councillors Joan Scannell, Eva Greenspan (when she is there), the Mayor, Gill Sargeant, Helen Gordon and Alison Moore.

As for the smartest gentlemen in the chamber, it would be better if I mentioned the sloppiest as they are far less, which doesn't say much for the women.
