A recovery operation is underway after an LNG boat, used to take staff around the site, has sunk in the Milford Haven waterway overnight.

The 40 foot passenger boat, The Guardwell was tied to a barge, she sank at around midnight last night (Sunday). A spokesman for South Hook LNG said that nobody was onboard and no-one has been hurt.

The boat is currently on the seabed, its position marked by a life raft believed to have automatically inflated as the vessel went down.

A small amount of diesel is currently on the surface of the water and is being dealt with.

A port authority spokesman said that divers are scheduled to go down to the stricken vessel this lunchtime and it is hoped that she will be raised this afternoon. An investigation will then take place into why the vessel sank.

The Western Telegraph is awaiting a fuller statement from South Hook LNG and will update this story as soon as we have more information.
