THERE were record entries and the largest ever attendance at this year's Hayscastle Pony and Horticultural Show.
Secretary Sarah Davies was delighted with the number of exhibitors in all the horse and pony sections - the best entry rate since the first show in 1954.
Taking top honours were Valmai Thomas and her father, John Davies with their grey part-bred mare, Mount Pleasant Golden Dawn, shown with her May born foal.
Championship contenders also included Martin Davies' smart two-year-old Section A chestnut colt Clyncoch Sion; Hannah Gray with her nine-year-old bay Show Hunter Pony, Sox; and Wyn Morris presenting Jayne Jones' three-year-old Pony Breeding winner, Fosway Free Spirit.
Others to impress were Claire Johns' nine-year-old grey Working Hunter, Sky II, Sarah Whitfield with her five-year-old dapple grey Hunter, Johnstown Diamond; and Kim Davidson's two-year-old skewbold colt, George of Copekim, presented by Lillian Vaughan.
Taking best in show from the dog section with her Griffon was Amy Osborne and the rapidly expanding vintage tractor and machinery display was headed by Bryn Harries with his matching David Brown tractor and baler, both in immaculate condition despite being well over 50 years old.
Floral and vegetable experts, Richard Davies and John Williams, had a field day in the marquee, collecting no less than 14 trophies between them.
