Cardigan castle could soon have its very own army, as locals are encouraged to take up swords and shields to form a garrison of knights.
Men, women and families from the town and surrounding area, who are interested in life in the 13th and 14th centuries, are asked have their lances at the ready and join the Cardigan Castle Garrison of Templar Knights, a medieval re-enactment society.
George Wright, preceptor of the Collegiate of Knights Templar, has been involved in re-enactments of this kind for 15 years, and the group adopted the castle after a medieval day was held in the grounds.
He said: "We wanted the castle to have its own garrison, and have already had some interest from people in the area.
"If more people join us we can have a minature army to take away to various events."
Participants will be trained in the use of sword, spear and shield, and many other items of medieval warfare.
The garrison will then be able to travel to far flung parts of the country to take part in displays, battles and living history. There are also plenty of tasks for those who do not wish to fight.
George added: "There are no age restrictions on taking part, but we would like children to be accompanied by an adult."
The group will be taking part in a Battle on the Beach', as part of Tenby Arts Festival on September 21st.
Anyone interested in taking part can contact George on 01646 621996, or 07798 757758.
All initial training will take place in Cardigan.
