The acclaimed Atonement is the first film to be screened on the technology of the future as Theatr Mwldan in Cardigan goes digital.

Theatr Mwldan has been chosen as one of 240 screens in the UK to have a new generation digital projector installed as part of a national initiative by the UK Film Council.

The step forwards in projection technology puts Mwldan, and Cardigan, at the forefront of global cinema development.

Theatr Mwldan is only one of two independent cinemas in Wales to have a digital projector.

A spokesman for the cinema said: "As more and more prints come out on digital it means that we can have more films on the date of release. The quality of the film is outstanding."

The projector has been installed in the spacious surroundings of Mwldan 1 where it will operate alongside the existing 35mm projection.

Atonement (15) stars Keira Knightley and James McAvoy and is based on the novel by Ian McEwan.

It runs until September 27th. For more details contact the box office on 01239 621200 .
