A PLAQUE marking Welsh poet and renowned pacifist Waldo Williams will be unveiled at his former home in Llandissilio later this month.

The son of Edwal and Angharad Williams, Waldo was born in Haverfordwest where his father was a schoolmaster.

A conscientious objector during the Second World War, war and the suffering it causes were prominent themes in his work.

His poetry also expressed the importance of close-knit community life and brotherly love in his native Preseli.

His most popular poem, Cofio (Remembering), is a nostalgic piece expressing a longing to know the generations who have gone before us.

On Saturday, September 21, at 2pm, David Williams will unveil a plaque in memory of Waldo at Rhosaeron in Llandissilio, where the Harmoni choir from Maenclochog will also perform, and a full-colour, bilingual map of places linked with the poet will be launched.

There will be a picnic afterwards at Waun Parc y Blawd. If it rains, the picnic will take place at Blaenconin chapel instead. Everyone should bring a picnic and a blanket.

Later this month, there will be a re-unveiling of a plaque in memory of Waldo at the new Records Office in Prendergast Haverfordwest. The ceremony will take place at 1pm, on Monday, September 30.
