Nick Ainger loses seat to Simon Hart
4:17am Friday 7th May 2010 in West Camarthen & Pembrokeshire South
LONG serving Labour MP Nick Ainger has lost his seat to the Conservatives.
Mr Ainger, who had served as the constituency MP for South Pembrokeshire for 18 years, lost in the poll to Simon Hart.
Mr Ainger said: "It has been a huge honour and a privilege to represent this constituency.
"It is a wonderful part of the world, as you all know, and we all love it.
"I think in the last 13 years we have seen a transformation in our local economy and we have seen many jobs created, partnerships with local government, the Assembly Government, Government and Europe that have brought prosperity to this area.
"I feel if the incoming governement gets that partnership wrong, then the people of this area will suffer in the same way that they did in the early 80s and 90s.
"It was a great privilege to represent this area and I am very grateful that I was able to do some good in that time."
Mr Ainger has served South Pembrokeshire for 18 years, and West Camarthen for 13 years, since a change in the constituency boundaries.
Mr Hart paid tribute to Mr Ainger and his work in the last 18 years.
He said: "It would be churlish of me not to mention Nick Ainger's long and significant service as our MP. He has never been the enemy, but opposition.
"If I do a job half as well as he has done, I will consider I have made a good impact. I wish him well."
Mr Hart, who has been Chief Executive of the Countryside Alliance and previously worked as a chartered surveyor in Carmarthen and Haverfordwest, praised his fantastic campaign team.
"There is no greater challenge, and no greater honour than being asked to represent you in parliament and I'll do my level best, and I will start this very minute, to do justice to the job you have given me."
The full results for the Camarthen West and Pembrokeshire South Constituency were:
- Nick Ainger (Labour) 13,226
- Ray Clarke (UKIP) 1,146
- John Dixon (Plaid Cymru) 4,232
- John Gossage (Liberal Democrat) 4,890
- Simon Hart (Conservative) 16,649
- Hentry Langen (Independent Democrat) 364
Provisional figures show a turnout of 69%. The result was declared by returning officer Bryn Parry Jones at 3.50am.

What for selling the countrys gold reserves when gold was at its lowest?
and it was him, still P.M. for now who rescued not only UK but many worldwide countries' climb out of recession
Funny how none of the political commentators or major news agency give him the credit for this.
Ah the dreams of a labour supporter. get them rose tinted specs of Tim. I for one think they are all as bad as each other. We are in a mess at this moment and the sooner the bickering stops and governing begins (whoever it will be) the better.

I didn't vote Conservative but know many that did, but get a grip !
Labour Spin, Sleeze, the big brother society we now find ourselves in. As for the Ambulance, in the early 90's Ambos were not as qualified as they are now, No paramedics just ordinary Techs, which are no way as highly qualified as todays Techs !.
But why should any worker vote for a Party who are no better than the Tories ?? Accusing Firefighters of being friends of Saddam, Baby eaters, Bast#rds, the lies told about the Fire Service were a joke. Ainger Visited Pembroke Dock on the first day of the national strike, he didn't even have the balls to put his own slant on the dispute, but towed the party line, Gutless !!! Dont forget this bloke came to the county for one reason, to get the Americans out of the UK with CND !

Some people argue for a different voting system but I feel it is now time for a reality check due to the fact that the country is up to its eyes in debt and getting deeper in debt by the minute.
Cuts in taxpayer funded projects and services are inevitable.
I would suggest that the first sacred cow that needs cutting is the so called education budget as before long we will have more adults in school than children. The reality is that we must realise that we all have different abilities.

I know personally just how much that statement from Kenneth Clarke both hurt and annoyed ambulance staff. They may have not been paramedics at the time he gave his speech but they were no way just glorified taxi drivers as he implied.

don't forget slavery, eating babies and sending urchins up chimneys - those naught tories eh
honestly "front line services"?
Senior managers in all education, councils and the NHS have seen their salaries shoot up (have to pay to get the best - like jonathan ross eh?) taxes have shot up and they fiddle to statistics to justify our tax revenue hasn;'t been wasted - examples - NHS efficiencies whilst patients lie in their **** and catch diseases that have NEVER been seen in a srevices hospital (but they're closing too), kids passing every exam whilst the bosses organisations complain more kids than ever are leaving sKool unable to red and rite(sic) children killing themselves having been bullied, the £100k heads blather on about bullying policies but are terrified to record a parents complaint as a bullying complaint incase it looks bad on their statistics - on a more minor level (except if you are elderly and break your neck) cannot grit pavements but can find loads o money to increase the communications budget - which means spin doctors

..and who says i haven't been standing next to you previously???????
Lets get something straight, the Tories (Who i didn't Vote For) where the only party to have the balls to say the country is facing massive cuts, Labour Spin try to say Tax Credits under threat for all, untrue !! Its for those who earn 50K and above. Public services are going to have massive cuts (I know i work in it), Health will be savaged, but under management reduction, As we now have it three Heads for the Derwyn Health board, all had non redundancy clauses inserted into contracts before almagamation, 300K+ for 1 position which should be 100k, lots of pencil pushing going on there !.
Wont be long before we read another moan in the Telegraph Letters page, or in the Mirror then ??.
If its affects you so much, why not stand in the next WAG elections.
Have a nice pint, unfortunately i wont be able to join you as im 274 miles away atm, so wont get back in time, but i promise you i will pop in to put my views across about the Labour Party.....to your face as you requested...... though i've always been told, Politics and religion shouldn't be brought up in a pub???

Labour could have bought back British Rail (18 years of Tory Decline?? or Tory and Labour) British Gas, BT.
Tory's took us into War for the Falklands, Labour took us into War for the Americans.
But come on it really riles me when people keep saying Tory this Tory that......13 years Labour were in power, some good some bad, 78p a Litre of fuel in 1997, how much is it now?
As i've said previously i never voted Tory, but i **** well know we are going to suffer, i would rather suffer in the near future than know i'll suffer next year! Whatever you say about Labour giving to the people, they sure knew how to take it back and more with Stealth Taxes !!

But my point with the Torys and Labour is more about 31 years of childish politics, you did this, did that etc..... At least with whats in place now no one party can rule the roost, this has to be good for the UK in general. With the NHS, yes there wasn't enough funding, but there isn't enough funding getting to the right place now, to many managers managing pencils rather than sorting out the front line.
Its the same story for all public services, Money being used for bloody stupid schemes, rather than getting to the sharp end.
I hope the Government starting today can do 80% of the good that a coalition WAG has done, if it does we'll hopefully come out stronger.

It will be interesting to see if they campaign on the same ticket in the one election still outstanding and if so will the smaller parties take some of their votes.
Just to confirm I stood as an independent candidate, so did Mike and Viv Stoddart and Phil Baker. We have remained independent not like the rest of the so called independents who stood as independents but then joined the Independent Party.
I would suggest at the next election that those standing as independents should be asked if they intend to stay independent should they be elected.
