Hare Krishnas come in peace

10:33am Tuesday 11th September 2001

A message of peace, love and acceptance was brought to Croydon last week when the Hare Krishnas rolled into town.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness brought their travelling festival to the Croydon Clocktower on August 31 to spread the word of Krishna.

A wide audience consisting of adults, children and the elderly were entertained for the evening at the event - the first if its kind in Croydon.

Traditional food, dance, music and a customary Indian play known as Ramayana was laid on to introduce audiences to the Hare Krishna way of life.

A spokesman from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness said: “This is the first time we have ever come to Croydon with our annual festival roadshow and it went down really well. Everyone had a great night.

“The point of the festival wasn't to recruit new members but to introduce people to the Hare Krishna religion.

“Our overall message was to open people's minds to our way of life, and after the reception we got we'll definitely be coming back to Croydon next year.”
