Young people on certain housing estates in the borough are set to benefit from the introduction of Croydon's first community bus.
The double-decker was launched last week as a mobile youth activity project, made possible by £170,000 funding from the national lottery charities board and £25,000 from Croydon Council.
Equipped with computers and entertainment equipment, and staffed by specifically-trained youth workers and volunteers, the bus is aimed at 13 to 19-year-olds on five housing association estates which currently lack community facilities.
Young people on estates in Broad Green, Thornton Heath, Woodside, South Norwood and Coulsdon will benefit from out of school hour activities, support, training and guidance.
This project adds weight to the Connexions partnership, which this week pledged £150,000 to help young people in South London and has a shop front drop in centre in Croydon town centre.
