The unexpected passing at the weekend of Vernon Scott has robbed Pembrokeshire of one of its longest-serving and best-known journalists.
His wide-ranging interests in life were such that colleagues throughout the profession, both local and nationally, had long regarded him a master wordsmith and one who was forever fair-minded.
In the field of sports reporting Vernon will be fondly remembered first and foremost as a soccer writer. Few of those he rubbed shoulders with at the London Road ground in the halcyon days of Pembroke Boro, would ever have imagined the day coming when his allegiance would switch to the oval ball code, but switch it most certainly did in recent times, as his interest diverted to following his grandsons as they started to make their mark on schools' rugby in north Pembrokeshire.

Blessed with a keen sense of humour that endeared him to so many, Vernon will be remembered as well, with a smile and chuckle by scores on the same wavelength as himself.
