To those who knew him well, Vernon Scott was not just a good journalist, but a skilled writer who approached his job with both pride and professionalism and above all a deep sense of fairness.
I had the pleasure to have know him for all of my professional life as a photographer, and to have have worked with him on many local stories and also all over the world.
From the bandit country of South Armagh to the forests of Northern Germany, working with Vernon was always a pleasure and always entertaining.

His great sense of interest in the world and its eccentricities was reflected in his work and later in his intricately researched books on local history.
Indeed History was his greatest passion, especially the period of World War Two as
growing up as a schoolboy in Milford Haven during the war left an indelible impression on him,and an interest in military matters which remained with him all of his life.
Vernon was a teller of stories, and this spilled over into his personal life where his company was always sought after, and his speaking prowess in great demand from local societies.
Personally I will always remember him , not just as great colleague , but also as a dear and trusted friend, who will be sadly missed not only by his wife Joan, children Paul and Helen and their families, but also by all of those whose paths he crossed during his way in life.
Finally if I was asked to describe him in one sentence, it would be "there goes one of nature's true gentlemen"
