Mrs M Ashton

Cenarth

THE death occurred on June 14 of Mrs Mary Ashton of Cenarth.

She was 96.

Originally from Liverpool she worked in the munitions factory during World War II in Liverpool and Dowty Seals in Milford Haven.

She retired 35 years ago from Dowty Seals, also she worked pre-war making Meccano and Corgi toys in Liverpool.

Mary enjoyed gardening, her children and great grandchildren were a large part of her life, and she also enjoyed her home life.

She was pre-deceased by her husband William (Bill) Ashton in 1965.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Billy and Carol (son and daughter-in-law); Joan and Hugo (daughter and son-inlaw); Colin, Jane, Ellie and Harry (grandson and family); Louise and Steve, Evie and Jack (granddaughter and family); Emma, Joe and Isla (granddaughter and family); Jayne and Simon, Charlie and Billy (granddaughter and family); Catherine and Bryn, Eleanor and Hannah (granddaughter and family); Kathy (sister, 102 years of age); Joe and Sheila (brother and sister-in-law).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn and the bearers were Billy, Hugo, Colin and Joe. There were family flowers only with donations in lieu to the British Heart Foundation.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

 

Mrs M Owens

Fishguard

THE funeral took place recently of Margaret Owens, who died at Withybush Hospital on June 7, aged 88. She was born at Wallis Street, Fishguard, her late parents being Mr and Mrs Tommy Morris. She spent some years caring for her younger brothers Randal and Roy, whilst their mother worked at the Surgery in R.N.A.D. Trecwn.

She then took up employment with Miss Eynon at West Street Post Office and on its closure she joined Portfield Post office until she was employed with Strawbridge Bakery, Fishguard. Later she worked for her brothers at the Electrical Shop, West Street, until her marriage to Jim Owens and she then moved to live in Milford Haven.

She then worked at Meads School until her retirement.

Margaret returned with her husband Jim to reside at Llain Las, Plas-y-Fron. Sadly he passed away in June 2004.

Margaret spent the last seven years of her life as a very happy resident of Parc-y-Llyn Nursing Home, Ambleston where she received excellent care from the Matron and staff and this enabled her to enjoy and be active in social occasions especially Monday afternoon quizzes. Margaret was a faithful member of St Marys Church and had been actively involved with the Girls Friendly Society for many years. The service was held at St Marys Church, Fishguard, followed by interment at St Marys Cemetery and was officiated by Rev Dr Jennie Annis, the Rev John Roberts was also present. The organist was Perys Worth.

The principal mourners were Roy and Mair (brother and sister-in-law); Helen and Mark (niece and husband); Vanessa (niece); Jemma and Bernard (great niece and partner); Lauren, Naomi, Kevin and Wil (great-nieces and great-nephews); John, Susan and Lee, Ann, John and Fiona, Rhys and Marion, Eira and Bryan, Derek and Jean, Angela (cousins) and friends too numerous to mention.

The bearers were Roger and Gary Strawbridge, Mark Tormey and Lee Evans.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Parc-y-Llyn Staff Fund to Paul Jenkins and Sons Funeral Directors, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr. R Bonwick

Haverfordwest

THE death occurred recently at his home of Mr. Ronald Bonwick of Priory Avenue, Haverfordwest. He was 95.

He was born and grew up in Tonbridge, Kent, and was the last surviving member of a large family. He came to Haverfordwest during the war with the West Kent Regiment where he met and married his wife of 68 years Muriel (nee Mawston) in the old Moravian Chapel, St Thomas Green. After the war Ron worked at RNAD Trecwn as a painter and decorator where he spent most of his working life. Following his retirement his main interests were his family and his garden.

He was also an avid follower of all kinds of sport.

The funeral took place on July 2 at Albany Church, Haverfordwest, followed by interment at City Road Cemetery the officiating minister at the service was Reverend Alan Jenkins.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Muriel (wife); Jane and David Butcher; Elizabeth and Lionel Evans; Ena and George Clark (daughters and sons-inlaw); John and Caroline Bonwick; Tim and Sue Bonwick (sons and daughters-in-law); Keith and Jenny Robinson, Claire and Calvin Kielty, Andrew Evans, Sally and Elliot Keme, Nicola Bonwic, Simon and Sam Bonwick, Kevin and Laura Clark, Sarah and Robin Leane, Lyndsey and Lisa John (grandchildren and spouses); David, Julia and Rachel Ashworth, Ian and Kathy Ashworth, Angela Mawston and partner; Yvonne and Trevor Kelvey.

Unable to attend Susan, David, Joan and Jenny (nephews and nieces).

Also left to mourn are twelve great grandchildren.

The bearers were Keith Robinson, Simon and Sam Bonwick and Kevin Clarke (grandsons). There were family flowers only with donations in lieu to the Paul Sartori Foundation, 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and Son, Freystrop.

Mr D. G. Roach

Pelcomb Bridge, Haverfordwest

MR DESMOND Gerald Roach (Gerry) passed away peacefully at home, Sunnyhill Buildings, Pelcomb Bridge, Haverfordwest after a long illness on June 15th. He was 63.

After leaving Haverfordwest Secondary Modern (now Sir Thomas Picton), he attended Neyland Tech where he trained as a bricklayer/ mason. Having worked 27 years for the local council roads and bridges department, Gerald was self-employed until his health forced him to stop.

Gerald was well known throughout South Wales and further afield for his voluntary work in the Kingdom Hall Maintenance and Construction Programme.

Up to his death Gerald was an active member of the Haverfordwest congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he served as an elder for 36 years, 27 of these as congregation secretary.

His main interests were football, cricket, golf and later skiing, various aspects of farm and country life and in later years his two granddaughters Nesta and Mika.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Caroline Roach (wife of 38 years); Graham and Annette Roach (son and daughter-inlaw); Hannah and Idan Bor (daughter and ‘son-in-thelaw’); Nesta and Mika Bor (granddaughters); Selwyn and Christine Roach (brother and sister-in-law); Hazel and Bruce Geddes (sister and brother-in-law); Roger and Kasha (brother and sister-inlaw); Diane Blakeney; Lynda Doyle, Andrew and Steffan, along with uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws and neighbours along with the 125 regular members of Haverfordwest congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and many friends from neighbouring congregations. The service was at Kingdom Hall, Pelcomb Bridge followed by interment at City Road Cemetery.

It was officiated by Mr Grenville Sutton (Kingdom Hall) and Mr Thomas Greenwood (cemetery), with prayers said by Mr Bryan Harries and Mr Don Routledge.

The bearers were Selwyn Roach (brother), Idan Bor (‘son-in-the-law’), Richard Ingate, Stephen Ingate (Caroline’s brothers), Stephen Brown and Ryan Greenwood (friends).

Donations for The Paul Sartori Foundation can be sent to 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire SA61 1DU and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mrs Joyce Morris

Haverfordwest

THE death occurred on June 24 of Mrs Joyce Morris of Williamston Close, Haverfordwest, at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. She was 84.

As a native of Pontypridd she started working life as a Marks & Spencer Girl. When she married she moved to Pembrokeshire as a policemans wife, living at Mullock Bridge, Johnston, Neyland, and Llanelli police houses.

She was a cook at Silverdale, Johnston, Milford Haven Fire Brigade, Heol Goffa, Llanelli, Centre for Disabled, Llanelli.

She returned to Pembrokeshire in 1980 and became a carer for adult mentally disabled as at Scarrowscant House, Haverfordwest until she retired.

She had a great sense of humour and enjoyed socialising with her friends at Merlins Bridge social centre, Monday bingo, Wednesday bingo ladies, and Wednesday luncheon club. She loved to read and do crosswords and puzzles. She had marvellous neighbours who were also good friends.

She had great pleasure in spending time with the children and grandchildren and was very proud of them all.

She was predeceased by her husband Inspector Charlie Morris of Pembrokeshire then Dyfed Powys Police.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Hazel and Henry, Alan, Alison and Mick, Andrew and Janette, Mark and Donna (children and partners); Matthew and Sarah, Katherine, Amy and Paul, Rebecca and Mark, Christian, Benjamin, Luke, Kimberley, Lucie, Gareth and Nathan (grandchildren and partners) and four great grandchildren; Margaret and Bobby (sister and brother, unable to attend), plus neighbours and friends.

The funeral service was at Hamilton Court Funeral Home, Milford Haven, followed by interment at Milford Haven Cemetery. It was officiated by Rev Paul Bartlett and the bearers were Andrew Morris, Mark Morris, Matthew Morris, Benjamin Morris, Paul Gilson, Mark Jones. The funeral arrangements were carried out by by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

Mr C. Beasley

Kilgetty

MR CHRISTOPHER (Chris) Beasley of Green Meadow Bush Lane, Templebar Road, Kilgetty passed away on June 27th at his home. He was 72.

Originally from Reading, Berkshire, his working life was spent with the power industry.

He moved to power stations all over the south of England, before moving to Wales in 1967 to work at Pembroke Power Station, where he retired from in 1991.

His main interests were skittles, football and cricket, steam trains, REA Pembroke Power Station, Pembroke sports and social club and also VMCC (West and South Wales Section). He was known as the mushroom man and after as the gas man.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Mrs Mary Beasley (wife of 50 years); Tracey and David Jenkins (daughter and husband); Dan (grandson); David (son); Graham (son).

The service was at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, officiated by Father Paul Davies and Canon Michael Butler.

Family flowers only with donations in lieu for the Paul Sartori Foundation and the Oncology Unit c/o E C Thomas and Son, Zoar Chapel, Llanteg, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
