Mr G S Rees

Hereford (formerly of Llanrhian)

FAMILY and friends were shocked and saddened to learn earlier this month of the tragic death of Geraint Stuart Rees of Rectory Road, Hampton Bishop, Hereford.

He was the much-loved and loving third son of Stuart and Mayrid Rees of Berry Hill, Goodwick and proud and devoted father of Richard and Dylan.

Aged 40, Geraint was employed as a tractor driver at Court Farm owned by Messrs S T Layton and Sons. He had, for some time, been a herdsman at the farm until the dairy herd was dispersed earlier this year and, being in possession of an HGV drivers license, he was retained by the company. He is understood to have died instantly as the result of an accident while working on the farm on the evening of 31 October.

Geraint was born and grew up on the family farm at Trevacoon, Llanrhian and enjoyed a happy childhood attending the local primary school before progressing to St Davids Secondary where he was always popular and made many lasting, much cherished friendships.

Passionately fond of farm livestock, at weekends and holidays as a young teenager he loved to travel on the M and S Transport’s cattle lorries and relished working with the drovers as they visited various farms, sales and marts.

When his parents retired from farming and moved to live in Goodwick in 1989 it appeared the natural thing to do, having grown up so near the sea at Porthgain, to join his older brothers in working their fishing boat which he did for a number of years.

His strong feeling for the country life, and livestock in particular, later saw him obtain employment on various farms in the locality before moving to Cardigan and more recently to Hereford.

The sympathy aroused with the family in their tragic loss was manifest by the exceptionally large attendance of mourners and friends at the funeral which took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth. Included amongst the gathering were very many colleagues and friends from Hampton Bishop in Herefordshire and his former employers had even brought down the tractor which he so much enjoyed working with to a place of honour.

The service of remembrance was conducted by the Rev Brian Barnes, vicar of St Peters’ Parish Church, Goodwick. The bearers were Richard Rees (son), “Titch”

Rees (brother) and Kevin and Marc Rees (cousins).

The principal mourners were Stuart and Mayrid Rees (parents), Richard and Dylan (sons), Gethin Rees (brother), “Titch” and Tina Rees (brother and sister- in- law), Kevin and Marc Rees, Jean and Martin (cousins) together with many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. There were family flowers only but donations in lieu, if desired, towards the Fishguard and Goodwick RNLI are being accepted by the funeral directors, Messrs Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fiedr Castell, Fishguard.
