Stepaside

MR Bill Daley of Summerhill, Stepaside, passed away on November 22 at Withybush Hospital. He was 73.

Originally from County Limerick, Ireland and born in 1940, he moved to Amroth in 1966.

He worked in agriculture and the construction industry, working on building De Valence in Tenby, Tenby Leisure Centre and Pembroke Power Station, also major road constructions. After retirement from the construction industry, he ran his own ground maintenance business.

His main interests were restoring old machinery and watching sport on TV especially snooker, rugby and darts. Bill had a great interest in wildlife, he loved nature and had a wonderful garden, growing vegetables and flowers.

His love of the countryside was apparent in the way he tended the grounds at Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg: his dedication to his work was loyal and sincere.

He had a wonderful knowledge of plants and nature and this was displayed in the impeccable presentation of the cemetery and woodland.

He will be greatly missed by his colleagues at E C Thomas and Son.

He was predeceased by his wife Hannah in 2010.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Mary (daughter); John (son); Peggy and Lilian (sisters in Ireland).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by Elizabeth and Stewart Treharne.

The bearers were Paul Hay, Daniel Treharne, Graham Thomas, Mark Parsell, Terry Brace, Stewart Treharne, all colleagues of Bill at E C Thomas and Son.

There were family flowers only with donations if desired for Wales Air Ambulance c/o E C Thomas and Son, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, SA67 8QH who carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mr D Jones

Marcq-en-Baroeul

France

(formerly of Llangwm Haverfordwest and Crundale)

THE funeral was held on December 7 at Christ Church in Lille of Derek Jones, son of the late Steve and Dorothy Jones of Queensway, Haverfordwest.

He passed away peacefully on December 2, aged 66.

A former Haverfordwest Grammar School pupil, Derek will be remembered as co-director of Tom’s Sports in Market Street Haverfordwest, and as a French teacher in the local Technical College.

He moved to France in 1981, where he became principal at the Centre de Pratique de Langues Etrangères in Lille.

He was active in the Haverfordwest Chamber of Commerce and Round Table, and also involved with the Lions Club in Lille and with the ECTI charity as a mentor of young people.

He is survived by his wife Marie-José, sons Anthony and Simon, grandsons Augustin and Timothée, brother Peter and sisters Stephanie and Janice. He will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.

 

Mrs L J Jones

Pembroke

A LARGE gathering of family and friends attended the funeral of Lilian Joan Jones, of Main Street, Pembroke, on November 12, at St. Mary’s Church, Pembroke. The service was followed by interment at St Michael’s Cemetery.

She died peacefully at The South Pembrokeshire Hospital on November 2 just short of her 98 birthday, which would have been on November 23.

Born and bred at East End Square, Pembroke, she had lived all her life, except for a short period during the early days of the Second World War, within a stone’s throw of The Square. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter in 1965.

Joan was still affectionately remembered and referred to by many as “Mrs Jones The Shop”.

The service was officiated by Rev Canon Roger Jones with the eulogy given by her son John and a poem written and read by her granddaughter Carly.

The bearers were Maurice Rees, Ross Davies, Paul Rogers and Keith Hulbert.

The principal mourners were John and Carol, Michael and Helen (sons and daughters-in-law); Mary and John (daughter and son-inlaw); Ann, Alan and Gemma, Jamie and Darren, Sadie, Carly and Gareth (grandchildren and partners); William (great-grandson) and Meurig and Geraint (nephews).

There were family flowers only, but if desired, donations in lieu for The Sunderland Ward and The Day Centre, South Pembs. Hospital may be sent to John Roberts and Son, Funeral Directors, 51, Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6AN, who carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Miss E G Williams

Tenby

MISS Eva Gwendoline Williams, formerly of Lady Park, Tenby, passed away on November 13 at Belvedere Home, Tenby.

Originally from Pembrokeshire, Eva was born in Cosheston to the late Tom and Sarah Williams. At the age of 19, she began her training to be a nurse and once qualified, then trained to be a midwife. Eva went abroad to Rhodesia as a midwife, delivering many babies. She stayed there until the 1970s.

She then worked as a district nurse.

On returning to Tenby, she resided with her sister Gladys at Lady Park, when Eva’s health deteriorated, with Gladys, they both went into Belvedere Home in February and there she was cared for by the staff up until her passing.

When in good health, Eva enjoyed trips out with friends and also artwork. She was a member of St John’s Church, Tenby.

She was predeceased by her late brother Llewellyn.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Gladys (sister); Karen and Andrew (niece and husband); Susan and Peter (niece and husband); Katie and Sarah (great-nieces); Jeffrey and Ann (nephew and wife); Maureen and Jonathan (cousin); Hugh and Sue (cousin and wife); Jenny Williams (cousin); Maureen Wocester and family (cousins); Netty and family (sister-in-law).

Unable to attend Billy and Emmie (brother and sisterin- law) and Daniel Goodridge (great nephew).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium followed by internment in her parents grave at Pisgah. Officiated by Pastor Gooding, the bearers were Jeffrey Williams, Andrew Goodridge, Jonathan Griffiths and Hywel Badham.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, Llanteg

 

Mrs S G Williams

Whitland

IT IS with sadness that we record the passing of Sarah (Sally) Gwendoline Williams of Delfan, North Road, Whitland on November 27 at Plasy- Dderwen Nursing Home, Johnstown, Carmarthen.

Sally was the youngest daughter of the late Daniel and Hannah Adams of Cilauuchaf Farm, Llandissilio and the wife of Denzil Williams, who had predeceased her.

Sally had spent the last four years of her life mainly bedridden at the nursing home, and was lovingly cared for by the staff. The funeral consisted of a short service at the house in Whitland and was followed by burial at Nazareth Cemetery.

The service was led by the Rev Eirian Wyn Lewis of Rhydwilym and District and assisted by the Rev Kingsley Taylor of St. Mary’s, Whitland and District and Rev Emyr Wyn Thomas of Nebo, Efailwen and District.

The principal mourners were Helen Williams (daughter) and Rhys Adams (brother).

Other mourners included Mr Roy Adams; Mrs Doreen Adams; Miss Cynthia Morgan; Miss Pamela Morgan; Mr Malcolm Adams; Mrs Carol Griffiths; Mr and Mrs Islwyn Phillips; Mr and Mrs John Wheeler; Mr and Mrs Byron Edwards; Mr and Mrs Tom Lewis; Mr and Mrs Paul Webb (nieces and nephews); Mr and Mrs Aled Adams; Mr Leighton Griffiths; Mrs Linda James; Mrs Eleri Morris; Mr and Mrs Jeff Wheeler; Mrs Karen Apperley (greatnephews and nieces); Mr and Mrs Arwyn James (relatives); Mrs Non Lewis; Mr Michael Lewis; Miss Mair Phillips and Mrs Joyce Morshead (close friends).

Unable to attend were Miss Myfanwy Adams (niece); Mrs Rachel Jones; Mrs Sian Thomas; Mrs Julie Davies and Miss Debbie Molloy (great nieces); Mr Christopher Webb (great-nephew); Mr Leonard John; Mrs Linda Thomas; Mr and Mrs Haydn Lewis (relatives) and other friends too numerous to mention.

The bearers included John Wheeler, Byron Edwards, Islwyn Phillips and Paul Webb (nephews).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Hywel Thomas, Llanboidy, Whitland.

 

Mr P T Davies

Milford Haven

MR Percy Thomas Davies, of Lower Scoveston Farm, Milford Haven, passed away in Morriston Hospital on November 17 at the age of 88.

He was a native of Milford Haven and was a farmer. His interests were his family and farming.

He was predeceased by his wife Sheila Davies.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Julie and John (daughter and son-in-law); John and Elaine Davies (son and daughter-inlaw); Jeremy and Liz Davies (son and daughter-in-law); Elizabeth and David, Christine and Alastair, Peter and Kate, Michael, Joanne, Mali, Elin (grandchildren); James, Emilie and Megan (greatgrandchildren); Edith Davies (sister); Ruth and Wilfred James (sister-in-law and brother-in-law); Kim Curtis (niece). Unable to attend: Mr Wilfred James.

The service was held at St Cewydd and St Peter’s Church, Steynton, followed by interment at Steynton Church Cemetery.

It was officiated by Rev Derek Davies and the bearers were Michael Davies (grandson), Christopher Nicholas, Peter Richards (grandson) and Paul Canning.

There were immediate family flowers only, with donations in lieu to St Cewydd and St Peter’s Churchyard Fund, Steynton, which may be sent to Mr John Richards, Fern Hill Farm, Haverfordwest SA 62 4ES.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

Cardiff (formerly of Pembrokeshire)

ERIC Desmond Golding, an old boy of Pembroke Dock Grammar School, a member of the Magic Circle under his stage name of ‘Goldini’ died suddenly at his home in Cardiff, aged 73. The funeral took place at Thornhill, Cardiff.
