He attended Maenclochog Primary and Narberth Grammar Schools. In October 1943 he joined the Royal Navy, and saw active service during the Second World War and was heavily involved in the D Day Landings. He was in the Indian Ocean when the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Whilst on their way to liberate Malaya, the Japanese surrendered.

In latter years he reminisced greatly on his experiences in the war.

He and his wife Rose were married at Walton East Church, on February 3 1951.

Glyn was generous to a fault in his giving and willing to help anyone in need, an avid supporter of the Royal British Legion, being the first treasurer of the Maenclochog branch when it was formed. In recent years when a new branch standard was needed, it was Glyn who put his hand in his pocket to pay.

He also regularly supported Children’s Cancer Charities and the Ex. Sailors and Soldiers Charity.

Over recent months, his health had slowly deteriorated, however, at the grand age of 88 years, he regularly crossed the road to sit in his office awaiting customers to come and pay their petrol dues and enjoyed sharing many a story with them.
