Milford Haven

THE death occurred at Withybush Hospital of Miss Elizabeth Margaret Foster of Vicary Crescent, Milford Haven.

She was 55.

As a native of Milford Haven, she was educated at Milford Central School, she then worked at Foster Powell, then worked for British Telecom as a phone operator, a card shop in Haverfordwest, then as a traffic warden in Milford Haven . Her last job was a post woman for Royal Mail, until she had to retire due to ill health.

Her main interests were watching TV or going out with her six Labs, also she liked going on cruise ships and going to different ports of call. Her main cruise was to Norway.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Allen John Howes (partner); Rob Foster and Alana (brother and sister-in-law); Daniel (nephew); Marge and Mike Jenkins, Ali and Phil Higgs (very good friends); Shaz and Roy, Antony and Caroline, Andrew and Aria (nieces, nephews and partners), Merun (her dog).

Unable to attend Joan and family.

The funeral was held at Hamilton Court Funeral Home followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and where it was officiated by Rev Martin Evans.

The bearers were Phillip Horn, Jack Jenkins, Phillip Higgs and Geoff Middlecote.

Donations in lieu of flowers for Guide Dogs for the Blind c/o Mrs Margaret Jenkins, 37 Hilton Avenue, Milford Haven SA73 2PB.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

 

Mrs M Whitworth

Pembroke

THE funeral took place on March 20 of Muriel Whitworth of Pembroke who passed away at Ashdale Nursing Home on March 8, Muriel was 97 years old.

Born in Wrexham, but from a Midlands (Stourbridge) family, she moved to Pembrokeshire in 1969. Muriel attended Stourbridge High School before entering the Care Home profession. Her first “managerial” role was on the island of Jersey before being evacuated in 1940 back to the UK mainland.

She worked on the South Coast before moving with her husband Joseph to take up a matrons role at a children’s home in Scoles, Yorkshire.

In 1946 she became Matron of Brook Lodge, Selby - a former workhouse which she helped to convert to a Residential Home for Older People, eventually housing 134 residents, and running the complex with her husband for 20 years.

Following her retirement in 1966 and the death of her husband in 1969 she came to Pembrokeshire to visit her sister Vi for a holiday and never returned to Yorkshire.

In 1970 Muriel became the Practice Manager of the former Tenby Health Centre in Tudor Square, Tenby, before finally retiring in 1980.

Following retirement for the second time she moved into Croft Court, Pembroke and then lived with her nephew and his wife for 11 years before finally residing in Ashdale Care Home, where she was lovingly looked after and cared for.

The funeral service took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium where the Revd Canon Roger Jones officiated.

The family left to mourn were Phil Thompson (nephew); Sally Thompson (great niece); Chris Thompson and David Mullard (nephew).

Unable to attend were Jenny and Jack Cole.

There were family flowers only but if desired, donations can be made in lieu to the Paul Sartori Foundation and sent to John Roberts and Son, Funeral Directors, 51 Bush St, Pembroke Dock who carried out the funeral arrangements in a dignified and sensitive manner.

 

Mrs G M King

Redberth

MRS Glenys Maud King of The Rise, Redberth, Tenby passed away at Belverdere Care Home, Tenby on February 27. She was 92.

As a native of Redberth she worked at Milton Manor, Redberth School, Richmond Hotel, Tenby and Manor Park, St Florence.

During the war she was in the Women’s Land Army, Timber Corporation in Cresselly, where she met her late husband Ron.

Her main interests were her home, her family and village life. In later life she travelled to France, Belguim, Amsterdam and Ireland.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Sandra and Desmond (daughter and son-in-law); Keith and Jan (son and daughter-in-law); Marilyn and Tony (daughter and son-in-law); Lisa and Mike (granddaughter and in law); Simon, Gavin, Samuel and Lloyd (grandsons); Alice, Emily and Abby (granddaughters); Joshua and Lewys (great grandsons); Peggy Morgan (sister-in-law); Margaret and Tom (cousin); Jill, Kevin Arabella, Lynda, Terry, Eira (cousins), plus numerous family, friends and neighbours.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Elwyn J John.

The bearers were Simon Jenkins, Gavin King, Samuel Grant, Lloyd King.

There were family flowers only with donations to The Paul Sartori Foundation c/o Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, Llanteg.

 

Mr A Younger

Saundersfoot

MR Alan Younger of Swallow Dale, Saundersfoot passed away at Park House Court Nursing Home on February 27 at the age of 69.

During his working life he worked for the Metropolitan Police from 1963. He served as a uniform constable for seven years, was then promoted to sergeant in 1970 and served at Harrow Police Station for 11 years. In 1981 he served at New Scotland Yard as a Sergeant working mainly with HM Prison Services until his retirement in 1995.

Alan was awarded a long service and a good conduct medal in 1985. He served the Metropolitan Police Service for 32 years with pride and loyalty.

Alan and Breda moved to Saundersfoot in 1997 for ease of travelling via ferry to their beloved Ireland. Alan enjoyed working in the garden of his new home. He also liked all sports on TV and was an English, Welsh and Irish supporter of games.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Breda Younger (nee Coleman- Irish); Josie Perriman (sister); Geoffrey Younger, Clive and Sophie Perriman (cousins); Wendy and John Hanafin, Louise and Richard James, Agnes Michael and Anna Marie Coleman, Seamus Coleman, Ireland; Joan and James O’Reilly and family, Ireland; Mary Keane and family, Ireland.

The service was officiated by Fr Owen McGreal and the bearers were Michael Coleman (brother-in-law); Seamus Coleman (brotherin- law); Geoffrey Younger (brother); Clive Perriman (brother-in-law).
