Bill was a devoted dad and granddad who enjoyed being with his family and he will be sadly missed by all the family and everyone who knew him.

Mr D A Rose

Johnston

ON February 15 Dennis Alan Rose passed away at the age of 80 in The Meadows Care Home in Johnston after a long illness. Born into an extended family in Barrow in Furness in September 1933, Dennis was typical of a generation past, enduring a tough upbringing in difficult times before voluntarily joining the Army where he served in the Royal Artillery for 10 years seeing service in the UK, Germany and on active duty participating in the Korean War. While conditions in theatre were appalling, some of the escapades Dennis was involved in added some levity to the situation.

Dennis is survived by Daphne (nee John) his loyal wife of 52 years, his son Murray and daughter in law Jackie currently residing south of Seattle in the USA and his daughter Mandy and son in law Vance in Cosheston.

While his grandchildren Gareth, Ryan, Alison and Michael all fondly remember him as “Den”, he will be affectionately remembered by Murray and Mandy as “Victorian dad” who together with their mum gave them a firm grounding in life.

An Englishman, very proud of his Lancastrian roots, he met Daphne while serving with the RA at Manorbier, got married and settled in Pembroke in the early 1960s.

Never short of an opinion and always prepared to back it up Dennis was a talented man, one-time Army heavy weight boxing champion, rugby player, club bouncer, logger, construction worker, crane operator and council supervisor, he was able to turn his hand to almost anything. One of his passions, besides tinkering with all things mechanical, was shooting accompanied by his springer spaniel Sally and the line of spaniels, all named Sally, continued long after the hunting stopped.

Never claiming to be perfect- except to his devoted wife - Dennis will be remembered as a man’s man who was a good friend to have in your corner in any time of need.

The Reverend Butch Gilbert officiated at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and the funeral arrangements were carried out in a sympathetic and comforting manner by Mr Neil Roberts.

There were family flowers only and donations made to Alzheimer’s Society.

The family left to mourn are Daphne (wife); Murray, and Jackie (son and daughter in law); Mandy and Vance (daughter and son in law); Gareth, Ryan, Alison and Michael (grandchildren); Frank and Carol Brocklebank (cousin and wife) plus many family, friends and neighbours.
