Mr D A Mason

Llanteg

The death occurred suddenly on March 18 of David ‘Alan’ Mason aged 70.

Alan was born in 1943 at the family farm of “Ruel Wall“in the village of Llanteg. Alan was not quite one year old and his younger sister Barbara Ann was about to be born in a few months when tragically their father James John Edger Mason was killed in the D Day landings in 1944.

Alan grew up happily with his grandparents at “Ruel Wall” and later farmed there.

His mother Eileen married again and Alan had two step brothers Vaughan and Derek.

He was chairman of the Llanteg Young farmers club, and as well as farming Alan had started agricultural contracting in Pembrokeshire, when he met Caroline. In 1965 they eloped and got married in Scotland and were happily married for 49 years. In 1969 they were blessed with a very special son called Andrew.

After farming and contracting for many years, Alan then retrained as a Motor Mechanic and worked from his home “Carlands” doing Motor Repairs for over 35 years so that he could be on hand to help care for his son Andrew.

Alan went to Amroth School and later Narberth Grammar.

When growing up he attended Crunwere Church and used to ring the bell, and was only too happy with son Andrew to ring in the New Year at the Millennium, and was the last one to do so, before it closed.

Alan enjoyed playing darts and was the captain of the local darts team. He loved the community of Llanteg where he had many friends and where he worked and lived happily for 70 years.

Alan was a devoted father and caring husband, he worked very hard and enjoyed his work, he had a heart of gold and a generous nature would always help if he could.

Alan had a really good sense of humour, was happy and content and was always smiling, his close family meant everything to him.

Losing his father when so small created a special bond with his sister Barbara, and a very deep special relationship with his son Andrew.

He enjoyed reading, local history, crosswords and his holidays in Scotland and visiting distilleries acquiring a collection of malt Whisky.

His happy, friendly, gentle, caring nature will be sadly missed, he helped create so many happy memories to beautiful to forget.
