Pembroke Dock

MRS EILEEN Sillence passed away peacefully on May 15 at Ashdale Nursing Home. She was 78.

Born in Sardis, to Keats and Maggie Badham, she was one of nine children and attended Stepaside School.

The family moved to Kilgetty and after leaving school she worked in the Co op. She met her husband David at one of the dances she attended in Tenby and after marriage, made their home in Arthur Street, Pembroke Dock. They had three children Jill, Linda and Edward.

Once the children were all in school, Eileen took a job as a dinner lady at Park Infants School in Pembroke Dock and moved to the junior school when they were amalgamated.

Her hobbies were gardening, travelling and her family.

Once the children had left home they moved to Military Road in Pennar. Eileen and David celebrated their ruby wedding anniversary in March 2003 surrounded by their family and friends. David died in late April 2003 and ten months later Eileen had her first of several strokes.

The family left to mourn are Jill and Paul (daughter and son-in-law); Linda (daughter); Edward and Jayne (son and daughter-in-law); Dominic and Daniel (grandsons); Brinley, Rowena, Connie, Tony, Win and Margaret (brothers and sisters), nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were Marjorie and Hector (sister and brother-in-law) and family in Scotland.

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Huw George.

The bearers were Dominic and Daniel Colman (grandsons), Darrell Scourfield and Stephen Badham (nephews).

There were family flowers only but donations in lieu, if desired, to the Stroke Association can be sent to John Roberts and Son, Funeral Directors, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6AN, who carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mr D S M Lewis

Haverfordwest

THE death of Mr Delroy Stuart McLennan Lewis, of Deans Close, Haverfordwest occurred at Withybush Hospital on May 14. He was 75.

A native of Pembroke Dock, he worked for Pembrokeshire police and his interests were his home, family and sport.

The family left to mourn are Evelyn (wife); Kay, Lauren and Courtney (daughter and granddaughters); Penny Lewis, and May Porteous (sister); Bernard and Jean Lewis (brother and sister-inlaw); Miriam Lewis (sister-inlaw); John Gettings (brotherin- law); Marion Gill, Stella Hughes and Caroline Phillips (sisters-in-law); Stephen and Pat Skyrme (brother-in-law and wife); plus nephews and nieces too numerous to mention.

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn crematorium, officiated by Rev Canon Geoffrey Gwyther and the bearers were Ron Palmer, Bert Furse, Richard Evans and Arthur Brady.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and son, funeral directors, Stockwell Road, Pembroke Dock.

 

Mr R A Batchelor

Pembroke Dock

MR RONALD Allenby Batchelor (Ron), formerly of High Street Close, Pembroke Dock, died on May 20 at Hollyland Lodge Residential Home, Pembroke, added 94.

A native of Pembroke Dock, he worked as a carpenter all his life, working all over the country from Pembroke Dock to London to Dungeness.

His main interests were his family, sports, he loved Manchester United and he enjoyed walking with his dog Gem, who he loved.

He was predeceased by his wife Thetis Margaret Batchelor, son Allan Batchelor and his daughter Dianne Midgley.

The family left to mourn are Barry Batchelor (son); Ann Corbally (daughter); Brenda and Kelby (daughter-in-law and grandson); Adele and Barry, Stuart and Kelly, Patrick and Kate, Sian and Guy, Rhys and Hannah (grandchildren and partners); Carys and Liam, Chelsea, Craig, Lucas, Ava, Elliot, Bethan, Ieuan, Evans, Lewys, Rhiannon, Henry, Lily, McKenzie and Daniel (great-grandchildren); Ellie, Alfie and Mia- Rose (great-great-grandchildren).

The funeral took place at Bethany Chapel, Pembroke Dock, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth. Rev Roger Hart officiated and the bearers were Stuart Midgley, Patrick Midgley, Adrian Rowlands and Barry Hughes.

There were family flowers only, with donations for Bethany Chapel, Pembroke Dock to Graham Thomas, 34, Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock SA72 6UR.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and son, Pembroke Dock.

 

Mr R I Frank

Haverfordwest

THE sudden death of Mr Robert Frank occurred on May 12 at Withybush Hospital. He was 43.

Robert, known to many as ‘spoon’, was born at St Thomas Hospital, Haverfordwest and spent most of his life in Merlins Bridge, up until five years ago when he moved to College Court.

Robert had a happy childhood, enjoyed all sport and was particularly good at cricket, rugby and football.

After leaving school he went to work at Trecwn Armament depot until it closed and he was made redundant.

Robert came through a troubled period of his life with the love and support from both family and friends, then went on to become a popular young man with a good sense of humour, who had plenty of love and time to give to his family and later his two cats.

Robert’s death was a shock and he will be greatly missed.

The family left to mourn are Michael (father); Rachel and Andrew (sister and brotherin- law); Julie (partner), and other relatives too numerous to mention.

The funeral took place on May 22 at St David and St Patrick Catholic Church, followed by interment at City Road cemetery and later the Oak Inn, Haverfordwest.

The bearers were Richard and Paul Frank (cousins), Teifion and Gerwyn Owens (cousins) and Steven Price (Pete) and Martin Studley (friends).

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu, if desired, in aid of Cats Protection to Andrew Rees, F G Rees and sons, funeral directors, Allonby, Portfield Gate, Haverfordwest SA62 3LS, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mrs M Miners

Haverfordwest

MRS MARY Miners (nee Williams) passed away at Withybush Hospital on May 15.

Born at Ivy Cottage, Rudbaxton, she then lived at Withybush Lodge until her marriage to Roy Miners.

They lived in the City Road area for many years before moving to Longfellow Close.

The family left to mourn are Roy, her husband of 59 years; David and Caroline (son and daughter); Keith (son-in-law); her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, who she always loved around her.

The funeral took place on May 23 at Zion’s Hill, Spittal, followed by committal at Zion’s Hill cemetery.

 

Mr K Williams

Goodwick

MR Ken Williams passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 8 at Hillside Residential Home in Goodwick at the age of 86.

Ken was born in October 1928 in Hill Street, Goodwick.

He attended the primary school in Hill Street before moving on to Fishguard Grammar School. After two years national service in the RAF, mainly spent at RAF St Athan, he then took up employment as a Laboratory Assistant at RNAD Trecwn, where he remained for his entire working life eventually rising to become senior Laboratory Technician. Ken was awarded the Imperial Service Medal for long and meritorious service at RNAD Trecwn.

Ken was a true Pembrokeshire man interested in all aspects of the county, Goodwick and Fishguard life. He was an active member of many societies and clubs. As a lifelong member of Ebenezer Chapel he became a deacon, treasurer and also secretary to the South Pembrokeshire independent Chapels. He was the founder chairman of the Goodwick Brass Band with whom he remained as such for many years. He also was a school governor for Fishguard Grammar School.

But it was Pembrokeshire History that was his real passion and he was a leading member of the Pembrokeshire Historical Society being its chairman for many years. He researched all manner of subjects and events no matter how small and wrote several papers on numerous subjects. He also became secretary for the Haverfordwest Philatelic Society. He was an active member of St Peter’s Church Men’s Society, Ken also travelled extensively mainly to the USA with groups following in the footsteps of Welsh settlers and meeting up with their families. Through knowledge he acquired, Ken was popular on the local lecture circuit giving talks, often illustrated with cards, pictures and maps from his collections.

In his youth Ken was a keen tennis player. Throughout his life he maintained his enthusiasm for all sports. Ken was a lifelong bachelor.

He was cremated at Parc Gwyn on April 24. The service was officiated by the Rev Menna Brown and assisted by the Rev Geoffrey Eynon.

The funeral arrangements were officiated by Paul Jenkins and Sons of Fishguard.

It was well attended by his family, nephews and nieces and numerous friends from Pembrokeshire and away.

Kens ashes were privately scattered in Fishguard Bay by his nephews.

 

Mrs R Dillon

Haverfordwest

THE funeral took place on June 3 at St Davids and St Patricks Catholic Church Haverfordwest, of Rowina Dillon aged 88 years who passed away after a short illness. The mass was officiated by father Owen McGreal and Tony Lawrence.

The family left to mourn are Pat (daughter); Jean and Maurice (daughter and sonin- law); Kit and Lawrence (daughter-in-law and husband); Alison, Anthony, Jane, Dave, Jonathan, Jackie, Andrew, Lee, Michelle, Ben and Sophie (grandchildren and partners); Chloe, Gabriel, Hannah, Adam, Rhian, Rhys, Alyssa, Nia (great grandchildren); Nancy and Ivor, Olive and Jimmy, Dorothy, Joan, Peter and Diane (sisters, brother and partners) plus nephews, nieces and close friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

The bearers were Andrew, Lee, Jonathan, Ben, Dave and Anthony. There were family flowers only with donations for Paul Sartori Foundation c/o Paul Jenkins and Sons, Funeral Directors, Feidr Castell, Fishguard.

Mrs P Jones Formerly of Maidenwells THE death occurred on May 23 at Woodland Lodge of Mrs Patricia (Teri) Jones formerly of Chapel Hill, Maidenwells.

She was 93.

Originally from England she served in the WAAF in the second world war where she worked as a telephone switchboard operator. She had a number of jobs and worked as a post office switch board operator, and at Nightingale maternity hospital in Derby, which she loved.

Following her marriage, which lasted 65 years, she had three children. When they attended secondary school she resumed working. Her interests were holiday, travel, family and her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Harry Jones.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Frank and Alison (son and partner); Diane and Dave (daughter and husband); Graeme and Wendy (son and wife); Nick, Lucy, Evan, Josh and Sam (grandchildren).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Revd Lorette Hinson.

The bearers were Nick, Lucy, Evan, Josh and Sam (grandchildren) and very close family friend Darren.
