MR RAYMOND Randall “Ray” passed away peacefully with his family beside him at Bush House Nursing Home on June 12.

Ray was born and brought up in Yerbeston Lane, Maidenwells and was one of eleven children.

He spent his working life at Furzton Farm, Yerbeston Lane, working with Norman John. His main interests were fishing, the garden and his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with the younger members of the family.

Ray was sadly predeceased by his wife Jean in 1985. Jean was mother to their four children, Karen, David, Jason and Claire.

The family left to mourn are his children Karen, David, Jason and Claire, together with their respective partners; grandchildren Danny, Rachael, Amy, Peter, Michael and their partners; great-grandchildren, Cerys, Issey, Joshua and William; brothers and sisters Stanley, John, Jimmy, Joyce and Clifford with their spouses and in-laws, Brenda, Roy, Michael and Sheila together with his nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

The funeral took place at Gilead Chapel, Maiden Wells and was followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery, the Rev Martyn Evans officiated.

The bearers were Jason (son), Danny (grandson), Stuart (nephew) and Richard (family friend).

Mrs M M McSparron

Milford Haven

THE death occurred of Mrs Mary Matilda McSparron of Marble Hall Close, Milford Haven at Withybush Hospital on June 15. She was 77.

Mary worked the local land, Capeston Turkey’s, at numerous refineries and the Astoria Cinema.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and in particular her grandchildren.

Mary also enjoyed trips out in the car and going to the beach. Mary also liked to read.

Mary was very religious and regularly attended Steynton Church and enjoyed many trips away with the parish.

The service was held at Steynton Church, Milford Haven followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and it was officiated by Derek G Davies (Vicar of Steynton), The Rev Bill Lewis, Gaynor Ford, lay reader, Stephen Smedley Eucharist assistant.

Mrs M Rees

Dinas Cross

THE funeral of the late Mrs Megan Rees, Trem y Glyn, Dinas Cross took place at the Chapel of Rest, Feidr Castell, Fishguard on June 23, followed by interment at Macpelah Cemetery, Dinas Cross. The service was officiated by the minister, the Rev Alwyn Daniel. The organist was Mrs Valerie Llewellyn.

After a long period of ill health Megan passed away peacefully at Withybush Hospital on June 13.

Megan was born in Mathry in 1928, then the family moved to Ferndale, Rhondda, she was the eldest of two daughters of Mr and Mrs William (Bill) Thomas. At the age of ten, Megan and the family moved back to Pembrokeshire, living at Garngelli, Dinas Cross where she continued her education by attending Dinas Cross Primary School, then Fishguard County School. Following school she began training in the nursing profession at Cardiff Royal Infirmary, after completing her training she returned to Pembrokeshire to work, first at the old County Hospital, Haverfordwest and later at Sealyham Isolation Hospital, following which she took up the post of district nurse in the local community until retirement.

In 1950 Megan married Gwilym Rees Haulwen, Dinas Cross and following their marriage they moved to live in Llanychaer until 1962.

They then returned to Dinas into their new home at Trem y Glyn, where in 1991 Gwilym died, leaving Megan to reside there until her recent death.

Megan was a person of a quiet, unobtrusive disposition, strong of faith, especially dedicated to the chapel at Tabor, Dinas, where she had regularly worshipped until failing health prevented her from attending. She will be sadly missed by family and friends throughout the community and beyond, especially by the family of her late sister-in-law Nan and her two sons James and John in Canada.

The family members left to mourn are Mrs Gwenllian Roberts, Mrs Mair Davies, Mr and Mrs Glyndwr Harries, Mr and Mrs Islwyn Harries, Edna Harries, Mrs Marilyn Jones, Mr David Morris (cousins); Mr Terry Roberts, Mr Jeffrey Roberts, Miss Susan Roberts (nephews and niece); Mr and Mrs Eric Hughes, Mr and Mrs Ken Thomas (close friends), together with many friends and neighbours. Unable to attend was Mrs Myfanwy Harries (close friend).

The bearers were Eric Hughes, Ken Thomas, Paul Nicholas and Alun Thomas.

There were family flowers only with donations if desired to Fishguard Health Centre, c/o Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, who carried out the funeral arrangements.

Rosemarket

THE vast crowd who attended the funeral recently showed the high esteem in which Jim was regarded by all relatives, friends, members of his home village and associations of which his was a member.

A very impressive service was led by Canon G Gwyther with hymns and prayers. The eulogy was given by Mr Bryn Lewis (friend).

The chief mourners were Mrs Enid Vaughan (wife); Louise and David (grandchildren), along with many close relatives. The bearers were members of the Neyland Masonic Lodge 990.

There were family flowers only with donations being accepted by Mrs B Summons, 17 West Street, Rosemarket, Milford Haven, for Leukemia Research or local district nurses.

 

Mrs W Scourfield

Whitland

MRS Wendy Scourfield died peacefully in her sleep on May 13. She was 36 years old.

Born in London to William and Ursula Lloyd she was educated at St Paul’s Girls School and The Royal Veterinary College, London.

Having spent all her holidays and free time with her grandparents in Ffos-y-Ffin Ceredigion, a life and career in West Wales was her dream.

On graduating she joined the Allen and Partners practice of Whitland in 2001. Here she met Huw Scourfield of Trevaughan Farm, Whitland and they were married in September 2006. Twin daughters Naomi and Emily were born in February 2012.

Her lifelong love of horses and riding meant that she became a member of local horse societies and was a founder member of the Red Kite Trec Group.

Her sudden death has quite naturally left a grieving family, who look to her daughters to lighten their loss.

The family left to mourn are Huw, Naomi and Emily (husband and daughters); William and Ursula Lloyd (parents); Dianne and Gwyn Scourfield (mother-in-law and fatherin- law); Anne Lloyd (sister); Suzanne Scourfield and Steven Bowen (sister-in-law and partner); Sandra and Michael Gash (sister-in-law and brother-in-law); Craig, Kate and Lucy Gash (nephew and nieces).

The funeral service took place at St Mary’s Church, Whitland on May 21 followed by a private interment at Henfynyw Church Cemetery, Ffos-y-Ffin, Aberaeron, officiated by the Rev Kingsley Taylor BD. At the service tributes were given by Mr Paul Rodgers, Senior Partner, Allen and Partners and by Mrs Felicity Hunter, school friend.

Mrs S Young

Hakin

MRS Sylvia Young of Gelliswick Road, Hakin passed away on May 24 at Withybush Hospital. She was 88.

As a native of Hakin she worked in the NAFFI during the war and was later a housewife and also helped with the family taxi business.

Her main interests were sewing, baking, being a member of the WI, Mothers Union and WRVS.

She was also a member of the St Davids Church, Hubberston.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Raymond (husband); Geraldine and Janet (daughters); John and Anthony (sons); John, Tolo and Val (partners); Nathan, Timmy, Jenny, Michael, James, Tolito, Rhian and Lyndon, Christopher, Sian and Ryan, Lauren and Louis (grandchildren and partners); Lluc and Tomasso (great grandchildren); Margaret and Derrick, George and Betty, Bernard and Lynn, Julie and Robert, Helen and Peter, David and Christine, Charlotte, Carol and John, John and Debbie, Keith and Caroline and families, Dossie and family (Australia), Tudor and Carolyn (Australia).

The service was held at St Davids Church, Hubberston followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Mr Bill Lewis. The bearers were John, Anthony and Christopher Young and Paul Evans.

Mr V A Davies

Formerly of Narberth

MR VINCENT Allen Davies passed away at Withybush Hospital on June 11. He was a resident at Rickeston Mill Nursing Home, Rickeston.

Originally from Cold Blow, Narberth he enjoyed gardening and art.

He never married and the family left to mourn are Allen and Barbara Phelps, Connie Scourfield, Vikki and Bill Catcliffe, Paul and Anais Evans, David and Karen Evans, Nigel and Nikki Evans, Sian and Dave Woods, Betty James and Mollie James.

The service took place at Templeton Church and was officiated by Rev Peter Lewis. The bearers were Gavin Wright, Dorian Evans, Stewart Treharne and Graham Thomas. The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, Llanteg.

 

Mr J C Williams

Pembroke Dock

MR JOHN Charles Williams of High Street, Pembroke Dock passed away on June 13.

He was a resident at Caldey Grange Care Home, Pentlepoir and was 78.

Originally from Pembroke Dock, as a young boy John worked for the Maypole in Commercial Row, Pembroke Dock, delivering goods in a basket on the front of his bicycle. He then had various other jobs before moving to Port Talbot where he became a gardener for the district council. Due to ill health John took early retirement.

He then moved to Pembroke Dock 33 years ago to care for his late father Alderman J R Williams with his wife Jean and two daughters.

John carried out voluntary work at the Anchorage Day Centre for adults with learning disabilities, carried on his involvement with the St Johns Ambulance Brigade from Port Talbot where he taught many local people and attended many events.

For many years John was a sponge man for the local borough football club. John was known for his arts and craft passion especially the making of wooden jigsaw puzzles.

In later life John became well known for his baking, where he would make and deliver cakes to his neighbours.

Family meant everything to John, he was a loving carer to his daughter Helen Wyn after his wife Jean passed away five years ago.

Ky his grandson and great grandchildren Brogan, Star, and Kolby were the elixir of life to him.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Delyth and Helen Wyn (daughters); Sean (son-in-law); Ky Rhys (grandson); Brogan, Star and Kolby (great grandchildren); Llinos (niece).

The service was held at Pennar Community Church, Pembroke Dock and was officiated by Roger Hart.

The bearers were Sean Smith, Ky Rhys Smith, Mark Roach and Alan Hodgson.

Donations given were passed to John’s daughter Helen Wyn in the form of sponsorship as she took part in Race For Life.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, Llanteg.

 

Mrs J E Miller

Manorbier Newton

The death occurred at home of Mrs Jean Elizabeth Miller of Manorbier Newton, near Tenby on June 10. She was 62.

Originally from Pembroke Dock, Jean left school at 16 to work for Mr Alec Munt, Jewellers in Pembroke Dock for nearly 20 years. She had other part time jobs after her girls were older including Rayers, County Clothes, Tenby and Fabric House, Narberth before retiring a few years ago.

Jean had a love for walking and travelling and also holidays in her motorhome.

Jean along with Brian also enjoyed visits to her daughters and enjoyed her time as grandma to Henry.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Brain James Miller (husband); Louise and Huw (daughter and son-in-law); Henry (grandson); Jayne and Mat (daughter and partner) plus close friends and family.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Rev Rob James.

The bearers were Huw Price (son-in-law); Mat (daughters partner); Ian Edwards, Robert Taylor, Malcolm Lewis and Keith Mason (family friends).

Mrs I E Badham

Kilgetty

MRS IVY Eileen Badham of Broadmoor, Kilgetty passed away at her home on June 14.

She was 88.

Originally from Stepaside she worked at Trecwn during the Second World War and ran a B and B from home for several years. Also she worked for ten years in Mr Monks the chemist, Kilgetty until her retirement.

She was devoted to her family and was a member and deacon of Ebenezer Cold Inn Baptist Chapel, where she supported her husband George in his role of secretary and as a lay preacher in the local area.

Ivy was predeceased by her husband George, son Phillip and daughter-in-law Joan.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are John and Joan (son and daughter-in-law); Mark, Melanie, Trevor, Vicky, Mai, Matt, Becki and Dan (grandchildren and partners); Tom, Jack, Alex and Ollie (great grandchildren); Olive (sisterin- law), also numerous nephews and nieces.

The funeral was held at Cold Inn Baptist Chapel with interment in the chapel cemetery.

It was officiated by Rev Craig Gove.

Mrs A Prosser

Landshipping

THE death occurred peacefully at home on June 15 of Mrs Annie Prosser, Furzy Park, Landshipping aged 99 years.

Beloved wife of the late Roddy and dearly loved mother and mother-in-law of Arthur and Janet, Marlene and Gary, cherished grandmother to Sally and Peter, Andrew, Stuart and Sarah, Greg and Charlotte, Ross and Sherrie, Scott and Faye, also treasured great grandmother to Kyle, Cian, Olivia, Devin and Alisha.

Annie was born at Garden Pitts, Landshipping on June 13 and had one brother Randal who predeceased her.

Annie met Roddy whilst he was on holiday in Landshipping and they married in 1945.

The marriage was blessed with the birth of two children Arthur and Marlene.

Annie was always cheerful and enjoyed a good laugh or a joke but was also a loyal chapel member. She belonged to Templeton ladies choir for many years.

Her life revolved around her family and grandchildren, and later her great grandchildren who helped keep her young at heart.

The funeral took place on June 24 at Burnetts Hill followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.

The bearers were her grandchildren Andrew, Greg, Stuart, Ross, Scott and Peter.

The service was officiated by the Rev Elwyn John and also Rev Hywel Brown participated at the crematorium.

Mr J G Pilbeam

Weymouth

MR JEREMY Graeme Pilbeam of Weymouth in Dorset passed away peacefully at home on June 27 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 52.

Jem or Pilbo as he was fondly known, lived at The Towers on Towerhill in Fishguard and went to school at Fishguard Secondary along with his younger sister Pippa and older brother Tim. Jeremy left school and later became a school master at Blundells Independant School in Tiverton, Devon. His parents Dawn (now living in Weymouth) and Robert (deceased 2004) Pilbeam continued to live in Fishguard for many years until they moved away to be closer to family in 2000.

Jeremy was a very popular school master of Craft Design and Technology at Blundells School for 27 years until he had to take early retirement due to his health in May of last year. He then moved with his wife Jenny to be near his mother and his sisters Pippa and Nicola and their families in Weymouth.

He leaves his wife Jenny and his three children Thomas and wife Chloe and only grandchild Freddie; Gemma and fiancé Dave, and Toby. He also leaves in mourning his mother Dawn Pilbeam; his sister Pippa Rowles and her husband Mark; their daughters Rosie and Romi; sister Nicola Raw and husband Michael; their sons Keith and Alan; brother Tim and his family who live in Germany, as well as other family members and many many friends.

The funeral service took place at Weymouth Crematorium on July 7, there were family flowers only with donations to Weldmar Hospice and Fortuneswell Ward at Dorchester County Hospital.

 

Ms P M Thomas

Broad Haven

MS PAMELA Margaret Thomas of Holbrock Road, Broad Haven passed away at Withybush Hospital after a short stay but very long illness on June 17.

Originally from Haverfordwest, she had lived in Cardiff for16 years. She was the only child of Mr Bill Thomas (former headmaster of Haverfordwest Grammar) and Nesta (nee Robert) of Keyston.

She was educated initially in Cardiff and won a scholarship to Howells School, Llandaff, she finished her last year in Taskers and went on to study foreign languages at Cardiff University.

Margaret was involved in her family business for some years before working for Ashmole and Co and finally was a senior accounting officer before taking early retirement in 1995.

She was a Dyfed county councillor and served three terms as a non executive director of the Old Pembs Health Authority. She was a foundation governor of Tasker Milward and served as chairman for some years.

She was trustee of Tasker Milward/Thomas Picton charity. In her youth she played and enjoyed watching tennis.

She was a local councillor for the Havens for nearly 40 years and a loyal member of Walton West Church for the same period. She loved the sun and she and Stuart spent months in Spain each year.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Ian and Claire (son and partner); Stuart Williams and Angela, Simon, Ben and Abbie (partner and family).

May Ross was unable to attend.

The service was held at Walton West, Broad Haven followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. It was officiated by Andrew Johnson, Rhiannon Johnson provided a wonderful eulogy, Paul Davies and Mr Spain were also in attendance.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

 

Mr B Morris

Milford Haven

Mr Bert Morris of Smokeshouse Quay, Milford Haven passed away at Withybush Hospital on June 23. He was 82.

In 1949 at the age of 17 he sailed in and out of Swansea as a merchant seaman and to various parts of the world on a wide range of ships, boats and tankers. He finally became a quarter master on P and O Liners. He then joined the MOD police in control of the Police launch patrolling the Southampton waters.

He was a sergeant with the MOD Police when he retired in 1989, following a motor car accident.

His main interests were swimming and walking, snooker matches on TV and especially crime programmes.

He also enjoyed many cruises in his retirement.

He was predeceased by his wife Peggy Francis in 2002.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Jacky Morris (brother); Jean Sharp (sister); Barry, Tony, Tom, Jack and Alistair (nephews); Jayne, Jo, Janet and Faye (nieces); Jacob and Joseph (great nephews); Brenda and Michael (cousins).

The funeral service was held at Hamilton Court Funeral Home followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Rev David Reed.

The bearers are Tony Sharp, Tom Sharp, Jack Sharp and Alistair Sharp (nephews).

There were family flowers only with donations for Dogs for the Blind and RNLI. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.
