Mr R Griffiths

Johnston

RON Griffiths of Bulford Road, Johnston, passed away peacefully at Withybush Hospital on July 10.

He was formerly of Hooks Farm, Tiers Cross, where he took over the farm from his parents. Ron married his soul mate - Mavis (who sadly passed way in March 2014) in September 1946 and they spent many happy years raising their family, three caring and loving daughters at `The Hooks` and working his beloved farm land.

After retiring from work, Ron kept a very active and busy lifestyle and you could always find him either in the garden growing a new crop of vegetables or in his shed, pottering away creating yet another rabbit hutch.

He loved his animals and right until the very end, Ron would have his daily chat with his last feathered friend - JAKE the parrot.

The family left to mourn are Jean and Brian Griffiths, Jannet and Dewi Williams, Judy and John Tarasconi (daughters and sons-in law); nine grandchildren, predeceased by Anthony Williams in 2005 and John Griffiths in 2012; eighteen great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild and Peggy Rogers (Rons sister - last remaining sibling of 14).

The funeral took place on July 18 at St James` Church, Walwyns Castle and was officiated by Father Graham Lloyd with the assistance of Rev Martyn Evans.

The bearers were Herbie Rees, Jeremy Rees, Gerald Rees and Paul Hanley.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by F G Rees and Son of Portfield Gate.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for St James`s Church Walwyns Castle, which may be sent to Mr Paul Hamley, 5 Bulford Road, Johnston SA62 3EU.

 

Mr J Stephens

Pembroke Dock

THE funeral took place recently of Mr Julian Stephens, of Milton Terrace, Pembroke Dock who passed away at Withybush Hospital on June 8. He was just 44.

Julian was an immensely popular and well regarded young man and this was evident in the huge number of family, friends and work colleagues who attended the service.

The service took place at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock and was followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery, with Rev. Nicky Skipworth officiating.

Julian was a huge fan of both Liverpool Football Club and dance music so appropriately, he was taken into church to “You’ll never walk alone” and carried out to “Voice of an Angel”

The bearers were Ian Stephens (brother); Shaun Rattle (cousin); Gareth Davies and Richard Shanks (friends).

The chief mourners were Suzanne Llewellyn, partner; Margaret Stephens, mother; Ian Stephens, brother; Anna- Marie Walker, sister; Joan and Roy Thomas, Jean Goodman, Marjorie Goodman, Johnny Goodman, Karen and Neil Thomas, Betty and Carol Stephens, Michael Stephens, Gareth Davies, Caroline Stephens, Karen Wollacott.

Unable to attend were Brian Rattle, Teresa and Nigel Eastwood, Ann and Stan Berry.

There were family flowers only but if desired, donations in lieu in memory of Julian for The ACDU at Withybush Hospital may be sent to John Roberts and Son, Funeral Directors, 51, Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6AN, who also carried out the arrangements.

 

Mr T J D Bevan

Llanycefn

THE funeral was held recently of Mr Desmond Bevan who passed away peacefully at Ridgeway Nursing Home, Llawhaden on June 6 at the age of 84.

Desmond moved from his family home Longlands, in Clarbeston Road to Broomfield, Llanycefn when he married in 1959. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Lynwen who he looked after with much care when she was diagnosed with a serious illness and sadly passed away in 1998.

Desmond was a faithful member of Carmel Baptist Chapel and was a popular member of the community.

He worked as a foreman with Pembrokeshire County Council until he retired in 1989. He was a keen gardener and took great pride in looking after his home.

There was a large attendance at the funeral which took place Carmel Baptist Chapel and at the interment at Horeb Baptist Chapel on June 13. The Reverend Eirian Wyn Lewis resided over both and was assisted by the Reverend Ken Thomas.

The bearers were Mr Lyn Howells, Mr David Nicholas, Mr Keith Gibby and Mr Geraint Gibby. The organist was Mr John Rowlands and the leaflets were distributed by Mr Tom Gibby.

The principal mourners were Eurig and Sheila Davies, Meryl Davies and Jeff Llewellyn, Marion and Meurig Evans, David Bevan, Janet Bevan, Linda Horsley (nephews and nieces); Alison and Rachel Davies, Paul Evans, Hilary and Ian Morris (great nephews and nieces) and Jack Phillips (greatgreat nephew).

Apologies were received from Mr Eric Bevan (twin brother) who was unable to attend due to illness.

Refreshments after the funeral were provided at the Village Hall in Maenclochog.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Dennis Jones, Efailwen.

 

Mr H E Reynolds

Hakin

MR HERBERT Edward Reynolds (Herbie) aged 89 passed away peacefully with his family beside him at Rickerston Mill Nursing Home on June 14.

Herbie was born and raised in Nelson Avenue, Hakin, and was one of five children, all who have pre-deceased him.

When the war was over, Herbie started work on a steam trawler as a fireman and rose through the ranks until he made skipper, an achievement which he was very proud of.

He moved to Lowestoft with his family for a while but returned to his native town of Milford Haven where he continued fishing for many years.

When he left the fishing industry, Herbie took the post as police constable on Milford Haven Docks before moving on to the Milford Tugs, where he finished his working career.

During his retirement, Herbie and his wife Betty enjoyed several winters in Spain. Unfortunately due to failing eyesight his activities became restricted to life in and around his home and neighbourhood.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Betty; his five children Robert, Jennifer, Sheila, Alan and Alyson; his ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

The service was held at Hamilton Court in Milford Haven, followed by a cremation at Parc Gwyn. The officiating minister was Rev Bill Lewis.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

 

Mr L Williams

Goodwick

MR LEMIE Williams of Railway Terrace, Dyffryn, Goodwick passed away on July 11 at Withybush Hospital at the age of 78.

Lemie was born in Felin Ganol, Middle Mill and then moved to Park Hall Farm, Brawdy. After leaving school he started working on Bryn Gwyn Farm with the Griffiths family, from here at the age of 18 he decided to join the Royal Navy Submarines serving on the T Class HMS Thermopylae.

In 1961 he married Rita Morgan and spent his life living in Goodwick.

Many people will remember Lemie as the Parts Director at Greens Motors, Haverfordwest where he spent 32 years, retiring in 1995.

Lemie was predeceased by his beloved wife Rita in 2002.

In his retirement his life revolved around his family, friends and especially his grandchildren Alastair and Isabelle.

The funeral service was held at The Chapel of Rest, Fishguard on Friday July 18, where many friends, neighbours and ex-colleagues joined the family.

The principal mourners were Corinna and Richard (daughter and son-in-law); Andrea and James (daughter and partner); Alastair and Isabelle (grandchildren); Mildred and Colin Ress (sister and brother-in-law); Glanrhyd Williams (brother) together with nieces, nephews and other more distant relatives.

Unable to attend were Eric Williams and Colwyn Williams (brothers).

The bearers were Messrs Alastair Davies, John Williams, Peter John and Tim O’Sullivan.

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu if desired to RNLI Fishguard and Goodwick Branch or Fishguard and Goodwick Stroke Club, C/O Paul Jenkins and Sons, Funeral Directors, Feidr Castell, Fishguard SA65 9BB, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mr I F Harries

Pembroke Dock

MR IAN Harries died peacefully in his sleep at Bush House Nursing Home, Pembroke on July 4 after a long illness, aged 69 years.

He was the eldest son of the late Frank and Dilys Harries of Prendergast, Haverfordwest.

Ian was a former employee of the Western Telegraph, where he served his apprenticeship as a printer, becoming print manager.

During his childhood he spent many happy days staying with his grandmother in Fishguard which gave him many treasured memories.

In his youth Ian was a keen sportsman playing cricket for Johnston, rugby for Haverfordwest and Milford Haven and was a keen athlete for the Pembrokeshire Youth Athletics Team.

Later he became a proud member of Haverfordwest Male Voice Choir.

Ian is survived by his loving wife Caroline, sons Jonathan and Lyndon, daughter Bethan and future son-in-law James and grandson Josh.

Also among the mourners were Robert and Judith Harries (brother and sister-inlaw); Louise and Kate (nieces); Roy, Gwyneth and Betty Harries of Fishguard (uncle and aunts).

He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

A memorable service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on July 14, officiated by Rev Elwyn John of Whitland.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, of Llanteg.
