Hakin

MR KENNETH John Williams of Woodbine Way, Hakin, Milford Haven passed away on July 18 at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest. He was 84.

As a native of Milford Haven his working life was spent as a shipwright in various companies in Milford Docks, he was a carpenter on construction sites including the Esso refinery and Cambria House.

He worked for the MOD in Milford Haven until his retirement in 1991.

His main interests were walking, reading, gardening, holidays abroad and watching TV.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Marina Williams (wife); Stephen and Phillip (sons); Alison and Joy (daughters-inlaw); Gareth, Martin, Bryn, Joel and Karl (grandsons); Lauren, Emily, Jac and Remi (great grandchildren); David and Yvonne (brother and sister- in-law); Noreen, Gladys and Nell (sisters-in-law), together with nieces and nephews.

Unable to attend were Joy (daughter-in-law) plus Bryn, Joel and Karl (grandsons) from New Zealand and Canada.

The funeral was held at Hamilton Court Funeral Home followed by interment at Milford Haven cemetery and was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans.

The bearers were Gareth and Martin Williams (grandsons).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

 

Mr T Axon

Tavernspite

MR TED Axon of Beynons Court, Tavernspite passed away at his home on June 28.

He was 61.

Originally from London, he moved to Martletwy at the age of 11.

He was a HGV Fitter, serving his time as an apprentice with West Wales Construction, Narberth. He also spent a number of years as a herdsman and agricultural contractor.

He was forced to retire due to ill health in 1991.

His main interests were gardening and spending time with his family especially his granddaughters, affectionately know as ‘his girls’.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Val (wife); Ian and Rachel, Peter and Sara (sons and daughters- in-laws); Michelle and Malcolm (daughter and sonin- law); Chelsea, Hannah, Elicia, Emily, Shainie, Kaitlin and Kasey (granddaughters); Landy (‘fostered grandson’); Johnie and Rita, Don and Dor (brothers and sister-in-laws); Alwyn and Mary Lewis (father and mother-in-law); John and Christine, Keith and Helen, Sue and Vince, Steven and Louise, Mark, Melanie and John, Martin and Alison, Richard (brothers- in-law and sister-in-law); Terence and Phil (uncle and aunt); nephews, nieces, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on July 14 and was officiated by Rev Elwyn John.

The bearers were Michelle, Malcolm, Ian, Peter, Johnie and Ron.

Donations in lieu of flowers for the Paul Sartori Foundation can be sent to Mr Malcolm Thomas, Hillcrest, Llanteg, Narberth.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, Llanteg.

 

Mrs N E Hawkins

Haverfordwest

MRS NINA Hawkins of Haverfordwest passed away peacefully at The Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, on July 13 after a short illness.

Born in Abercanaid near Merthyr Tydfil in 1922 where she spent her early years before marrying her beloved Harold (deceased 1994) and moving with his Civil Service postings to Swindon and Cheltenham.

The marriage was blessed with three children Robert, Siân and David and one final move returned Nina to her beloved Wales and Haverfordwest in 1967.

Nina and Harold put down firm roots in Haverfordwest and made many good friends as they raised their children.

Family meant everything to Nina and she was devoted to her children and took great joy in her seven grandchildren when they came along.

Nina had a positive outlook on life, she always had a story to tell and she had a fun mischievous streak. These traits gave her family and friends a lot of pleasure over the years and she will be very much missed by all her knew her.

She will always be in the hearts of her family, Robert and wife Jane, grandsons Matthew, Alexander, Rhys and Christopher; Siân and husband Phil, only granddaughter Sally and grandsons Jack and Harry; David and partner Caroline.

The funeral service and cremation were held on July 29 at Easthampstead Park Crematorium near Wokingham, Berkshire. There were family flowers only, if you wish to make a donation to the Paul Sartori Foundation in memory of Nina please post to 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest, SA61 1DU.

 

Mr W T Warr

Haverfordwest (Formerly of Milford Haven)

TREVOR Warr passed way peacefully on Monday July 7 in Withybush Hospital following a long illness. He was 87.

Trevor and his father before him was a “man of the docks.” His father, another William, but known as Billy, came to Hakin in 1909 and managed the then illustriously named Ship’s Chandlery, the Great Grimsby Coal, Salt, and Tanning Company. Born in 1926 to William and Nellie, Trevor followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the company in 1943.

In 1959 he became manager of the locally known“Grimsby Stores” until his retirement in 1989. Despite the decline in the fishing industry Trevor worked tirelessly to strengthen the company by diversifying and adapting to the needs of the refineries. When he retired and handed over to Michael Davies it was one the most important businesses on the Docks.

Trevor served as a proud member of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards in Palestine.

When the Association was formed in 1957 Trevor joined and throughout all his life has been an active, loyal and dedicated supporter.

For 37 years until his resignation last year, Trevor was Secretary of the Branch.

During this time he was honoured on several occasions and attended Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace and many other official events in his capacity as Branch Secretary.

He had met Prince Charles and The Queen several times. Recently he was presented with a pair of prints in recognition of his loyal service to the Association.

He was also Secretary of the Milford Haven Branch of the British Legion for many years and was honoured by standard bearers from both Milford Haven and Haverfordwest at the Services.

Trevor was a man who touched everyone’s life. Once met never forgotten.

Trevor leaves behind his wife Pam, son Robert and wife Barbara, daughter Linda and partner Chris, granddaughters Samantha and Lindsay .

Also present to mourn were, Betty and Brian ( sister and brother in law) Vilma ( sister in law) Mark and Jane ( nephew and niece) Richard and Jean ( nephew and wife) Nick and Ava ( nephew and wife) Bill (nephew) , Jim and Jane ( nephew and wife) and other friends and family too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were Mike George (nephew) and family of New Zealand and Simon Warr (nephew) of London.

The bearers were his nephews Mark Richards, Bill, Jim and Stephen Warr.

A service was conducted at St Katharine’s, Milford Haven by Father Harri Williams assisted by Canon John Davies. The tribute was read by Canon Geoffrey Gwyther.

A Cremation followed at Parc Gwyn with a family tribute by Richard George (nephew) and a reception at Plas Hyfrd, Narberth.

The funeral arrangements were made by Tom Newing and Sons of Milford Haven.

There were immediate family flowers only and donations, if desired can be made to The Paul Sartori Foundation, 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest, SA61 1DU in memory of Trevor Warr.

 

Mrs A M Grffiths

Cresswell Quay

MRS Amy Muriel Griffiths of Hillside, Cresswell Quay passed away on July 11 at Withybush Hospital, aged 95.

She started her working life in service at the vicarage in Pembroke, where she learned all her good housekeeping skills, cooking, sewing, cleaning and gardening.

She later worked for the Ladies Land Army where she met her husband of 66 years, Bert (who died in August, 2012). They got married and she settled down to be a housewife, mother and nanny.

Amy was a lifelong member of Pisgah Chapel, attending regularly until her health deteriorated.

She loved watching television, especially the rugby, football and snooker.

The family left to mourn are: Barbara (daughter), Angela and Bram (granddaughter and partner), Brian and Kate (grandson and wife), Elizabeth and Nick (granddaughter and partner), Ethan, Corey and Logan (great grandsons), nieces and nephews Roslyn, Dilys and Peter, Elizabeth and David, Janice and Tony, Kevin and Jan, Arthur and Shirley, Philip and Eunice, Brian and Eileen, Auriol and Olwyn, Clement and Pam, Nicholas, Robert and Mandy, Colin and Susan and Hilary, together with neighbours and friends.

The funeral took place on July 17 at Pisgah Baptist Chapel, followed by interment in the chapel cemetery.

The bearers were David Young, Arthur Brady, Kevin Brady and Tony Scourfield (nephews).

Officiating was the Rev David Gooding and the organist Janice Scourfield (niece).

Unable to attend were Thalia and Ted, Miriam, Colin, David, Shirley, Denise, Lloyd, Thalia, Fiona and Ray (nieces and nephews).
