Clunderwen

THE death occurred suddenly at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest on June 30 of Mrs Elizabeth Heulwen Thomas aged 86 years old.

Betty was the only daughter of the late Owen and Annie Griffiths with whom she lived at Tir Bach, Clunderwen until she married the late Benjamin Thomas.

They spent many years at Rhyd-Y-Moch, Llandisilio together but due to her husbands ill health they moved to Heol-Y-Gaer Clunderwen where Betty lived happily for the last 36 years.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth on July 11, where a large crowd assembled to pay their last respects.

The funeral service was officiated by the Reverend Michael Davies.

She leaves to mourn nine children, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The principal mourners were Louvaine and Barry (daughter and son-in-law); Delma and Lorry (daughter and son-in-law); Eddie and Carol (son and daughter-inlaw); Gethin and Ann (son and daughter-in-law); Martin (son); Gwenda and Kevin (daughter and son-in-law); Dylan (son); Tracey and Roger (daughter and son-in-law); Tina and Mark (daughter and son-in-law); grandchildren Dawn and Sonia, Karen and Melanie, Adam, Carl and Nathan, Luke and Jake, and Laura; great grandchildren Alun, Lauren, Kayleigh and Kian, Dewi and Rhys.

There were family flowers only, donations in memory of Betty may be sent towards St.

Davids Church, Clunderwen c/o Ken Davies and Sons, funeral directors, Clunderwen.

The funeral arrangements were carried out with great dignity by Ken Davies and Sons, of Clunderwen.

Betty will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

 

Mrs Y S Harding

Narberth

THE funeral took place recently of Yvonne Harding of Penygraig Drive, Templeton, Narberth, who passed away peacefully at Blaenmarlais Care Home, Narberth, only six weeks after the death of her beloved husband, Ted.

Yvonne was born in 1928 in Pembroke Dock, an only child, and was brought up here and in Neyland.

Yvonne left Bush Grammar School to take up a job as an accounts clerk in her uncle’s haulage business, her secondary education having been disrupted by the Second World War.

She and Ted married in 1951 and settled in Neyland, where they were well-known members of the community.

In 1970 Ted and Yvonne moved to Neath as Ted furthered his career with the Prudential, and returned to Pembrokeshire in 1977 and settled in Templeton.

Yvonne became an active member of the Rotary Inner Wheel and the local W.I.

Yvonne was a quiet, unassuming person whose home and family were of paramount importance. She also had a fun-loving side to her nature and a passion for foreign travel which she and Ted pursued once he had retired.

She was devoted to her four grandchildren who called her their “little Nanny”.

The last four years had been difficult for Yvonne as she and Ted were separated by his need for residential care.

She became a resident at Blaenmarlais Care Home last October where she was looked after by the caring staff.

The family mourners were her daughter Alison; son Jeremy; grandchildren Rachel, Christopher, Jack and Sam; sister-in-law Charmain; brother-in-law John; daughter- in- law Sharon and sonin- law David.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium where Reverend Elwyn John officiated.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Rossiters of Narberth.

There were family flowers only and donations in lieu to the Wales Air Ambulance.

 

Mrs P A Beattie

Haverfordwest

THE funeral took place recently of Mrs. Phoebe Ann (Nan) Beattie of Glanafon View, Fishguard Road, Haverfordwest, who passed away peacefully on July 25 at Fairfield Nursing Home.

She was 83.

The funeral service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth was officiated by the Rev Chris Rees.

Nan was born in Little Newcastle, the second of four children, but moved to Narberth at the age of five.

Initially living in Church Street, the family moved to Plaindealings Farm just after the war.

Nan had a number of different jobs during her working life including working in the milk factory in Whitland, a children’s home near Tenby and, the one where she will be most remembered, Wilson’s (later to become Paige) ladies’ clothes shop where she worked until retirement.

Nan had a very caring nature and spent a number of years looking after her husband Allan until he passed away in 1998.

She loved to spend time with family, especially her grandchildren and always had time for her friends and neighbours.

Nan loved travelling and had managed trips to Italy, France and Belgium in her latter years, as well as many parts of the British Isles.

Her other interests included cooking, particularly baking and gardening until poor health forced her to give up.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Predeceased by her husband Allan, the family left to mourn are Phillip, Glynis, William, Janet and Allan (sons and partners); brother Melbourne; sister Enid and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son of Haverfordwest.

Mrs F A E Evans

Haverfordwest

MRS ADA Evans passed away at Ridgeway Nursing Home, Llawhaden on July 30.

Previously she had lived at Springfield Close, Haverfordwest.

Ada was born in Neyland and during her childhood lived at Summer Hill Farm.

With her late husband Ivor they ran the Broad Haven private hotel. In 1954 they took over the fish and chip shop in Dew Street and continued there for ten years.

For some years they lived at Hilary House in Haverfordwest and then Cranham Park, Johnston before retiring to their home at Springfield Close.

After leaving the fish and chip business, Ada went on to train as a nurse and following qualification she was awarded ‘Nurse of the Year’.

Ada was involved with amateur dramatics in the days when Tiers Cross had a flourishing drama group.

At home, her culinary skills were much appreciated as was her ability at baking and decorating cakes for special occasions.

Ada and Ivor had been loyal members of the former chapel at Dreen Hill.

Before her sight declined Ada enjoyed reading and television viewing especially the snooker, horse racing and quiz programmes.

She leaves two daughters Marion and Margaret and much loved grandchildren Richard, Gill and Jonathan as well as great grandchildren Megan, Owen, Lucy, William and Daniel, a brother John and sister-in-law Joyce.

A service was held on August 7 at Tiers Cross URC followed by interment in the chapel cemetery.

Affectionate tributes were given by the grandchildren.

Revs Martyn Evans and Martin Spain officiated at the service.

Donations, if desired may be sent to Ridgeway Nursing Home, Llawhaden.

Mrs J A M Davies

Templeton

THE death occurred on July 13 of Mrs Jessie Ada Mair Davies of Hillside Terrace, Templeton at her home. She was 91.

Her interests included being a founder member of Templeton and District Ladies Choir, WI, and a lifelong member of Templeton URC.

She was predeceased by her husband David Joshua Davies.

The family left to mourn and principal mourner are Owain and Colin (sons); Jonathon and Keri Anne (grandchildren); Roslyn and Pauline (daughters-in-law).

The service was officiated by Rev Elwyn John and the bearers were Jonathon Davies (grandson); Alan Waters, Peter Frearson and Christopher Frearson (family friends).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Stewart Treharne of E C Thomas and Son, Llanteg.

 

Mr W O Price

Pembroke Dock

ON THURSDAY July 10 family and friends gathered in Monkton Priory Church for the funeral of popular Pembroke Dock resident William Osbourne Price “Bill”, retired Chief Inspector of Pembroke Dock police station.

Bill was originally from Bala in north Wales where he worked for some time on the British Railways before joining the Pembrokeshire Police Force in 1950, he was posted to Pembroke Dock, Tenby where he met his wife Hilda and also to Haverfordwest.

He rose through the ranks to Chief Inspector and stayed at Pembroke Dock until he retired after 33 years service.

Bill was a prominent member of the South Pembrokeshire Golf Club for many years, and played bowls for the county team.

He also enjoyed snooker and was proud to have played against Terry Griffiths when he came to Pembroke Dock for an exhibition match in 1980.

Bill was an active member of Monkton Church and served as the Peoples Warden.

The funeral service was officiated by Rector Paul Nash and assisted by Reverend Martin Lloyd Cox, Reverend Graham Davies retired Arch Deacon and Val Petherick Chaplain to the Pembrokeshire Police Association.

The organ was played by David Rees.

Cross bearer Meredydd Thomas led the procession to Monkton Cemetry for interment, followed by the choir, Dorothy Lloyd the Peoples Warden and Joan Bessant the Vicars Warden.

The coffin was draped in the Pembrokeshire Police flag and helmet.

The bearers for Wednesday evening when the coffin was brought into the church were Messers Wyn Jenkins, Ken Davies, Andrew Arnold, Roger Davies, Neil Roberts and Phil Lloyd.

For the funeral the bearers were Derek Cole, Nick Hughes, Grant Arnold, Ken Davies, Wyn Jenkins and Stephen Allsopp.

The Mothers Union provided the refreshments after in the Church Hall.

The family left to mourn are Sandra and Andrew Arnold, Grant and Jess, Andrew and Janice Hughes, Kirsty and Nick plus many friends across the county.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Hilda in 1996, they had been married for 35 years.
