Haverfordwest

MRS Jaqueline Margaret Pritchard passed away at Withybush Hospital on August 14, she was 49.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on August 22 where there was a large gathering which showed how much Jackie was loved and respected by all who knew her. Jackie was a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister and auntie.

She and Gavin had been together for 21 years and they were devoted to each other, and also to their two beautiful daughters Lauren and Jodie. Jackie also loved her two dogs Barney, a Westie and Jacob her guide dog.

Jackie had not been in good health for a few years and was lovingly cared for by Gavin and all her family, but she never complained about anything and always got on with things with a smile on her face. Jackie will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Rev Father Harri Williams officiated and also read the eulogy with love and compassion at her service. Her niece Amy read a beautiful poem to Jackie.

The principal mourners were Gavin (husband); Lauren and Jodie (daughters); Davina and George (mother and step-father); Julie (sister); Mark and Maureen (brother and sister-in-law); Richard (brother-in-law); Margaret Pritchard (motherin- law); Edward Pritchard (brother-in-law); Wyn (uncle); Siobhan and Amy (nieces); Bryn and Katie (father and wife) plus aunties, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

The bearers were Wyn Dunn, Richard Lewis, Geraint Jenkins and Gareth Jenkins.

There were family flowers only with donations for Guide Dogs Cymru to be sent to Unit 3, Eastern Business Park, St Mellons, Cardiff CF3 5EA. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Sons, of Haverfordwest.

 

Mr A Walker

St David

MR Tony Walker passed away at Withybush Hospital after a short illness on July 7 aged only 78 and surrounded by his children.

The funeral service took place on Friday July 11 at St David’s Cathedral. There were touching tribute by Kim (son), Jaci (daughter) and Tracey (granddaughter). A personal tribute was read by Bro Malcolm Hawkins ROAB of which Tony was a longterm member, he was also one of the founder members of Ty Dewi Lodge.

His brothers honoured him by being his bearers at the cathedral and at his interment at St Davids Cemetery, where he was laid to rest with his adored late wife Iris.

The principal mourners are Kim and Christine, Wendy and Norman, Linda and Roy, Jaci and Colin (sons, daughters and partners); Claire; grandchildren and great grandchildren, friends and neighbours. Unable to attend are Hazel, Lorraine and Brian. The funeral arrangements were carried out by W G Bernard Mathias of St Davids.

 

Mrs B L Constable

Hazelbeach

MRS Brenda Louise Constable of Hazelgrove, Hazelbeach passed away at Torestin Nursing Home, Tiers Cross on August 28. She was 89.

She was originally from Milford Haven and worked at Waterloo Stores, Victoria Road until her marriage and then she became a housewife.

Her main interests were knitting, sewing, gardening, home decoration, and holidays in Britain.

She attended the Mothers Union in Johnston and Steynton churches.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas William Constable in 1994 The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Betty and Mary (daughters); Derek Steele (Mary’s partner), plus friends and neighbours of Brenda.

Unable to attend were Peggy and family (sister, Canada); Harry and Eirwen and family (brother, Australia); John, Judy, Lesley, Al and family (brother, Peterborough).

The service was held at St Katherines and St Peters, Milford Haven followed by interment at Milford Haven cemetery, Thornton and was officiated by Father Harri Williams. The bearers were Derek Steele and funeral directors.

Mrs I C Wilkinson

Tenby

THE death occurred on August 18 of Mrs Iris Constance Wilkinson of Clareston Court, Tenby at Withybush Hospital. She was 92.

She was born at New House Farm, Manorbier and worked on the farm with her sister Cicely, until 1945, when she began her nursing career at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, becoming a municipal midwife.

In 1954, she became district nurse at Tutshill, near Chepstow. During this time she qualified as a Queen’s Nurse. From her early days in Penuel Sunday School and throughout her life, Iris has a strong steadfast Christian faith which she took into all aspects of her working life.

In 1974 she married the Rev A J Wilkinson, Pastor of Dunnington Baptist Church near Worcester. Sadly, the Rev Wilkinson died in 1977 and Iris stayed on as secretary and organist of the church until 1992, when she came to Clareston Court and joined Deer Park Baptist Church, where she enjoyed fellowship until ill health intervened.

The visits from members of the church continued the fellowship, and was much appreciated.

Last September, a move to Belvedere Residential Home was necessary, there and at Withybush during her last weeks she was very well cared for.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Rev A J Wilkinson and her only sister Cicely in 2005.

The family left to mourn are Mr Newton Griffiths (brother- in-law); Mr Hugh Griffiths and Christine (nephew and partner); Miss Anne Griffiths and David (niece and partner); Mrs Kathy Thomas and Richard (niece and husband); Mr and Mrs John Steel (great niece and husband); Daniel and Stella Thomas (great nephew and niece); Griff and Hywel Steel (great great nephews); Mr and Mrs Vaune Evans, Mr and Mrs Eifion Thomas, Mr Hubert Thomas (cousins); Mrs Hazel Wilkinson and Mrs Judith Roblin (close friends); Mrs Audrey Pugh, Mrs Joy Wilkinson, Mrs Joyce Wilkinson (step daughters); Mr Graham Wilkinson (step son).

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Arfon Thomas assisted by Rev David Cardwell. The bearers were from E C Thomas and son, Llanteg, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs J M Tollett

Milford Haven

THE death occurred suddenly on August 15 at Williamston Nursing Home of Mrs Jocelyn Tollett. She was 90.

Jocelyn was born in Saundersfoot, the eldest of four children born to Joseph and Mary Lawrence.

When Jocelyn was young the family moved to Milford Haven and made their home with Jocelyn’s grandmother in Pill Road. Jocelyn met her husband Gordan when he was posted to Neyland Army Barracks during the 2nd World War. They lived with Jocelyn’s parents until they moved to their own home in Hilton Avenue. A devoted couple they had one son John and lived in Hilton Avenue for over 60 years. They shared many interests and hobbies, they loved all sports and were keen gardeners. They were well known for their produce, craft and cookery entries in local garden shows.

Gordan predeceased Jocelyn in 2009 and she continued living in the family home until ill health meant that she required nursing care. She spent her last 18 months in Williamston Nursing Home where she was cared for lovingly by the staff.

A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The funeral service took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium where Rev Martyn Evans officiated.

The funeral arrangements were carried out Tom Newing and Sons Ltd of Milford Haven.

 

Mr J Fields

Milford Haven

MR James ‘Jimmy’ Fields of Milton Crescent, Milford Haven passed away on August 22 at his home. He was 94.

As a native of Milford Haven he was a pipefitter with the gas board, then pipefitter during the construction of oil refineries. He took early retirement to look after his wife Mary, who predeceased him in 1986. He enjoyed listening to classical music, ballroom dancing and was a keen gardener.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Yvonne and Ian Lorimer (daughter and son-in-law); Neville and Neeru Lorimer (grandson and his wife); Nigel and Angie Lorimer (grandson and wife); Joshua, Zara-Sophia and Arun Lorimer (great grandchildren).

The funeral service was held at St Katherine’s Church and at Parc Gwyn. It was officiated by Father Harri Williams and Canon John Davies.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, of Milford Haven.

 

Mrs G D Pritchard

Haverfordwest

THE death of Gladys Doreen Pritchard (Glady) occurred peacefully at Withybush Hospital on August 24. She was 85 years old.

Glady was born on May 17 1929 into the Evans farming family at Spittal Cross. She was the seventh of nine children with brother’s Gareth, Elfed, Silgwyn, Idris and Ivor and sisters Mary, Neila, and Eira.

Glady attended Spittal Primary School and Taskers School for Girls in Haverfordwest.

On leaving school Glady trained to become a telephonist and at 17 got her first job with the Post Office Service in Milford Haven.

She then worked in the County Offices and finally retired from Welsh Water in 1984.

Glady married Dennis Pritchard in March 1954 and they settled in Haverfordwest.

Sadly after 23 years of a very happy marriage, Dennis died suddenly on Tenby golf course in 1977 aged just 49 years old.

Glady was a loyal member of Zions Hill URC and also did some voluntary work at the WRVS café, Withybush Hospital and charity shop in Haverfordwest. She enjoyed a full social life with many good friends including her close companion Mr Meyrick Voyle. They were a constant support to each other and shared many good times together.

Everyone who came into contact with her commented on what a lovely lady she was and how elegant and graceful she appeared. She was always very grateful and appreciative of all the help given to her by her nieces, carers and nursing staff and never complained or grumbled. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family.

The funeral service took place at Zion’s Hill URC on August 29 where Glady rested over night before being cremated at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth the following day. Her ashes were then buried with her late husband Dennis at City Road Cemetery, Haverfordwest.

The principal mourners are her two sisters Neila Davies and Eira Suri, brother-in law Jasmer Suri, sisters-in-law Venie Evans, Hetty Evans, Sylvia Evans and Mary Evans, brother-in-law Tommy Harries, close companion Meyrick Voyle and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

The bearers were nephews Barrie Evans, Rex Davies, Derek Harries, Stuart Evans, Nigel Evans and Nick Suri.

Rev Martin Spain and Canon Geoff Gwyther officiated at the services.
