THE funeral was held recently of Jill Keey (nee Harries) of Bristol, formerly of Goodwick.

She was the daughter of Betty and the late Norman Harries of Goodwick.

Jill was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and leaves to mourn her beloved husband, Alan, Laura and Ian (daughter and partner), Gary (son) and much loved grandchildren, Jessica and Ethan. Jill is also mourned by Jean, Megan and Colin, Anne and Graeme (sisters and partners), Ian and Sue (brother and partner), Roy and Gwyneth (uncle and aunt).

A large congregation of Jill’s extended family of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends gathered to celebrate Jill’s life which went to show the high esteem in which she was regarded.

Mrs E R James

Lower Freystrop

ELIZABETH James (nee Hughes) passed away peacefully at her home, The Burgage, Lower Freystrop on August 11 at the age of 71.

She was the cherished wife of Keith for 47 years, loving mother of Rachel and Quentin, much loved sister of George, sister-in-law of Trevor, Peggy and Nerine, beloved grandmother of Libby and George. Elizabeth was also delighted to have known Quentin’s partner Louise.

Elizabeth was born at Lower Freystrop Farm and proud to be a ‘farmer’s daughter’.

For the greater part of her life she lived in three houses the family built, not more than 100 metres from the farm. She attended Freystrop V C School as a child and then Tasker’s School for girls.

After teacher training at Cardiff College, she taught in London for two years at Brentford Girls secondary School, returning home in 1967 to get married and teach in Milford Haven Secondary School. In 1979 the family including Rachel and Quentin, accompanied Keith on an exchange to Rhinebeck, New York. Keith was the principal of Chancellor Livingstone Elemetary. Whilst here she completed her Open University B A Degree.

On returning she joined the staff of Haverfordwest Secondary School, later Sir Thomas Picton Comprehensive and became head of the special needs department.

For Elizabeth this was the pinnacle of her ambition.

Her dedication and commitment to staff and pupils within the department never wavered. This in her opinion was ‘her finest hour’.

She was an active member of the Inner Wheel Club of Haverfordwest and was president on three occasions.

Elizabeth will be remembered within the club for organizing a medieval banquet to mark the 900 year celebration of the town’s charter.

The mayor stated it had been ‘the highlight’ of his year in office.

In addition she was a member of Haverfordwest Ladies Probus and the Haverfordwest Civic Society. Her passion for Welsh History led her and Rachel to visit virtually every known castle in Wales.

As a member of Haroldstone church she treasured her Sunday morning devotions, being a committed Christian. During the last few weeks of her life this faith helped her face her illness with a calm fortitude, never complaining, whilst still retaining her sense of humour.

Elizabeth’s funeral took place at St Martin’s Church, Haverfordwest on August 22.

The service was officiated by Rev Fr Marcus Zipperlen and Rev John Saxbe the former Bishop of Lincoln. Interment followed at Freystrop Cemetery, Lower Freystrop.

Lessons were read by Gwyneth Perkins (Inner Wheel) and Maurice Hughes, the eulogy was given by her former headteacher and friend Colin Evans and Roger Smith read Dylan Thomas’s poem, Eli Jenkins Prayer.

The bearers (at home) were local residents Roger Howells, David Thomas, David Davies and Bernard Evans, whilst at the church and interment, they were Daniel Rees, Roger Smith, Roger Barrett-Evans, Anthony Bowen, Stuart Watts and David Butler.

Donations if desired to either The Paul Sartori Foundation or Ward 10 Withybush Hospital and sent c/o Mr Roger Howells, Broadoaks, Lower Freystrop, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were by Roy Folland and Son, of Haverfordwest.

 

Mr S Morgan

Haverfordwest

THE funeral took place on September 4 of Mr Spencer Morgan of Furzy Park, Haverfordwest who passed away at Withybush Hospital on August 22 aged 67. He battled against illness for many years.

During his working life he was a crane operator working all over the Britsh Isles, when he had to retire due to ill health.

The family left to mourn are his wife Mary; Amanda and Cole Wheeler (daughter and son-in-law); Damian (son); fiancée Lynn Childs; and grandchildren Zoe, Emma, Nathan, Jessica and Caitlin; sisters Margaret, Janet and brother Tony.

The service at Parc Gwyn was officiated by Father Graham Lloyd and the bearers were Messrs Reg Davies, John Barrack, Peter Barrack and Graham Owston.

There were family flowers only with donations to the Paul Sartori Foundation c/o Mrs Helen Barrack, Gallery, 47 Haven Road, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Glyn Thomas and Son, of Freystrop.

 

Mrs S A Belton

Haverfordwest

MRS Sheila Ann Belton of Lower Haroldston Farm, Haverfordwest passed away suddenly on August 18 at Withybush Hospital the age of 75.

Originally a native of Martletwy she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Katie Cole.

After leaving school she worked with the late Roscoe Howells at Amroth Castle.

During this time she met her husband Mansel and bought Lower Haroldston Farm where she worked and lived until her sudden death. They were due to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary this month.

A renowned cook, her love of entertaining her large family, neighbours and friends was a passion and a gift, everyone welcome in her farmhouse kitchen. A member of the Womens Farming Union, now The Womens Town and Country Club, where many years of support was very much enjoyed and where she will be greatly missed. It was her large family though where the majority of her time was spent with Mansel amongst their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are her husband Mansel; daughters Hazel, Pamela, Alison and Katherine; sons-in-law Martyn, Alex, Simon and Paul; grandchildren Gemma, Adrian, Nigel, Nicholas, Christopher, Lorna, Alice, John, Jenny, Megan, Cerys and Rhian; great grandchildren Lily and Maisie; sisters Valerie, Margaret and Jane; brother Michael; brothers-inlaw Dewi, Talfan, Monty and Meyrick; sisters-in-law Jennifer, Susan and Mary; nephews, nieces, extended family, friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

There was a private service at her home, then at Parc Gwyn, which was officiated by Canon G Gwyther and Rev N Cale.

The bearers were Adrian, Nigel, Nicholas, John and Christopher (grandsons).

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu which can be made payable to Mr A P Hicks, Meadow Vale, Cold Blow, Narberth, Pembs, SA67 8RR, which will be equally divided between Ward 10 and the chemotherapy day unit at Withybush Hospital.

Mrs P Picton

Milford Haven

MRS Phyllis PICTON of Eastleigh Drive, Milford Haven passed away suddenly at her home at the age of 95 years on August 15.

Phyllis came from Weymouth to Hakin in 1931, she met her future husband Leonard in the (new) Central School, and took part in local operettas. She joined the WAAFs when war was declared, and spent most of the war in RAF Valley, Anglesey.

They married in 1945, and on moving from Hakin to Milford in 1952, Phyllis began a long association with Pill Social Centre, being a committee member, an enthusiastic old tyme dancer, and a producer of children’s shows.

She attended the North Road Baptist Church.She was also devoted to her family, far and near, and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard Picton.

The family left to mourn are Ken and Andrea Picton (son and daughter-in-law); Bryan and Jan Boughton, Jan and John Addiscott, Gerald and Mari Mills, Hugh Davies, Carol and Philip Wonnacott, Wendy Newman and Mark Francis, Margaret Picton, Derek and Rosemary Russell (nephews and nieces) plus Trish and Mike Pyart, Shane Morgan, Mike and Mary Jenkins, Shirley Cummings, Margaret and Sarah Astles, Nigel, Sarah, Hannah and Rhys Davies, Julia Kirk, Katie Stephens, Susi Addiscott, Gethin and Aled Mills and Tracey Heyward. Also many fellow Church members, dancing colleagues and other friends of several generations.

The funeral service was held at North Road Baptist Church, Milford Haven on September 2 followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.

It was officiating by Mrs Margaret Price.

Squadron Leader James Llyn John MBE

Formerly of Castlemartin

AFTER a short illness courageously borne Squadron Leader James Llyn John MBE passed away peacefully on August 12 at St Athan of Llyn, formerly of Castlemartin.

He was the devoted husband of Elsie, loving father of Sue and the late Jayne, father-in-law to John and Jorgen, grandfather to Kristian and great grandfather to Alex, also dearly loved brother to David and Trecia and the late Alan. The cremation took place on August 22 at Coychurch Crematorium.
