Haverfordwest

MRS Jasmine Josephine (Josie) Barber of Keats Grove, Haverfordwest passed away on October 1 at Withybush Hospital. She was 79.

Originally from Prendergast, Haverfordwest she worked at Green’s Motors, H McEntee, Merlins Bridge and the Milk Marketing Board.

Before her retirement she worked in a Cancer Charity Shop as a volunteer.

Her interests included reading, travel, crosswords and her family.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Desmond Barber (husband); Alan and Ruth Smullen (son and daughter-in-law); Tom and Ryan Smullen (grandsons).

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by Rev Nicholas Cale.

Donations for the Stroke Society can be sent to Roy Folland and Son, Cartlett, Haverfordwest, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

 

Mr A F J Thomas

Johnston

ON October 7 family and friends gathered at Albany Church, Haverfordwest for the funeral of Allan Frederick James Thomas of Langford Road, Johnston, who passed away peacefully at Withybush Hospital on September 27, aged 64 after a long, bravely fought battle against illness.

The service was officiated by Rev Martin Evans with a reading given by Amanda Cooke. Interment followed at Tiers Cross Cemetery.

Much loved and devoted husband of Moira, father of Gareth and grandfather of Lexie, Allan was the eldest son of Gwyneth and the late Elwyn Thomas of Langford Road, Johnston. Sadly he lost his eldest son Mathew and younger brother Glyn in tragic motor accidents both whilst in their teenage years.

Born and raised in Johnston, he attended the local primary school before going to Haverfordwest Secondary School. Upon leaving school he served his apprenticeship as a carpenter with John Bros Builders of Milford Haven, becoming a highly a skilled and respected tradesman culminating in him being appointed Clerk of Works with the Local Authority.

Sadly this appointment was brought to an early conclusion due to increasing poor health where upon he and Moira bought and ran for several years the convenience stores in Merlins Bridge, before moving to become the popular steward and stewardess of Haverfordwest Rugby Club.

A family man through and through, Allan enjoyed nothing better than time spent with them – especially his granddaughter Lexie with whom he had many happy hours tending to his chickens and helping in his shed. In his spare time he was an avid follower of Superbike and Formula 1 racing.

The mourners were Moira (wife); Gareth and Lexie (son and granddaughter); Mrs Gwyneth Thomas (mother); Mrs Dorothy Bateman (mother-in-law); Louise Lloyd (Lexie’s mum); Mrs Muriel Williams (aunt); Mrs Jane Davies, Alan and Jackie Bateman, Karl and Caroline Rozblat, Adrian and Amanda Cooke, Glad and Noel Williams, Kath Kelly, Denise Buchan and lifelong close friend David James and his wife Nannette.

Unable to attend was Mr Jon Davies (Australia).

The bearers were Gareth Thomas, Sean and Brett James, Jason Pollard, Adrian Cooke and Karl Rozblat.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by F G Rees and Son, of Haverfordwest.

 

Mrs E E A Lustig

Stackpole

THE funeral was held of Mrs Elsie Elizabeth Ann Lustig of Deer Park View, Stackpole who passed away at Ashdale Nursing Home on July 19.

She was 84.

Originally from Stackpole she started her working life as a housekeeper at Home Farm, Stackpole, where she met and eventually married Hans, who was a previous prisoner of war and was working on the farm. During her married life she worked casually as a flower and potato picker on local farms.

Her main interests were looking after her family and her home, three children, five grandchildren. She also loved her dogs and cats.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn were Hans Lustig (husband); Philip and Tina (son and daughter- in-law); Matthew, Sophie and Lauren (grandchildren and great granddaughter); Elizabeth and Egon (daughter and son-in-law); Michael and Lynda (son and daughter- in-law); Andrew and Emma (grandchildren), plus numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

The funeral service was held at Stackpole Church and was officiated by Roger Jones. The bearers were Matthew Lustig, Richard Callan, Simon Nicholas and Chris Howells.

Mr G H Rees

Narberth

THE death occurred on October 13 of Mr Gwynne Hubert Rees, of Kiln Park Road, Narberth at Withybush Hospital.

He was 89.

Gwynne started his working life at the age of 14 as an apprentice mechanic for Jack Carr in Narberth, he then spent most of his career at Station Garage, Kilgetty.

Prior to his retirement he worked at the Pendine Establishment.

Gwynne was called up for National Service and served in India and Palestine in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and was a member of the Narberth Branch of the Royal British Legion.

His interests included his family, gardening, fishing and watching sport.

He was predeceased by his wife Diane Rees in 1998.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Dorian (son); Caroline (son’s partner); Margaret (sister); Sarah and Macky (niece and her husband).

The service was held at Parc Gywn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by Reverend Elwyn John.

The bearers were Dylan Adams, Nigel Rossiter, Graham Dyer and Nigel Davies.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, of Llanteg.
