Pembroke Dock

MRS Doreen Shelley of Charles Thomas Close, Pembroke Dock passed away on October 16 at Withybush Hospital.

She was 85.

Originally from Tipton, West Midlands she was a factory worker and school cleaner, where she retired from in the 1970’s.

Her interests included singing, knitting, involvement with family and also caravanning.

She was also an active member of Park Methodist Tipton, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Pembroke, Westgate Chapel, Pembroke, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Ladies Fellowship.

She was predeceased by Leslie in 2003.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Ann and Glynne Williams (daughter and son-in-law); Sarah Crystal Richard (grandchildren); Hannah, Aaliyah, Kayne, George, Chloe and Lilly (great grandchildren); Gordon (brother); Hilda (sister); Freda (sister); Andrew (nephew); Janet (niece).

The service was held at the Westgate Chapel followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth which was officiated by Rev Robert James.

The bearers were Richard Golding, Andrew Arnold, Colin Williams and James Hartnell.

Miss L Semmens

Pembroke Dock

MISS Leonora Semmens passed away unexpectedly at her home in St. Mary’s Road, Pembroke Dock on October 12. She was 73. Her parents Walter and Nora Semmens predeceased her in 1994 and 1999.

Leo was born in Lydstep but had spent the last 70 years in Pembroke Dock. At school she flourished and made very many friends, and their friendship has lasted throughout the years.

On leaving school Leo worked only in the motor industry and spent over 30 years at Central Motors in Pembroke Dock and had a good working relationship with her employers and fellow workmates. Lee was hard working and developed a good knowledge about cars and car parts, and had a good rapport with customers. Central Garage was like a second home, she loved it there.

Leo also loved her home and was quite happy to just take short holidays with her sister. She was very generous and loved her sister’s children and grandchildren and was always loving and giving towards them. She loved to laugh.

There was a large gathering for the funeral which took place in St. John’s Church, Pembroke Dock on October 22.

Officiating was the Revd Nicky Skipworth and a poem was read by her niece Alisa, and the eulogy was given by her sister Ann.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn were Ann and Robin Kew (sister and brother-in-law); Alisa and Nick Creaser (niece and her husband), plus a large extended family and friends too numerous to mention.

Unable to be present was Alun Kew, nephew.

Interment took place at Llanion Cemetery, Pembroke Dock.

Donations in lieu of flowers for Portfield School, Haverfordwest are being accepted by Neil Roberts Funeral Director, Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mrs M Gibby

Formerly of Herbrandston

THE funeral of Marion Gibby took place on Friday November 7 at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. The service was officiated by Rev Rhiannon Johnston. There were readings by Charlotte Meredith and Laura Scale (granddaughters) and a eulogy was given by William Scale (grandson).

Marion was born in Milford Haven to Frank and Olive Blake. She married Bill and they lived at Herbrandston Farm until retiring to Dale.

After Bill’s death she met her partner Peter Mills and after his death she moved to Broad Haven. For the last eight months she lived in Fairfield Care Home.

She was a dearly loved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother and leaves to mourn Jane and Mel (daughter and son-in-law); Michael (son-inlaw); Charlotte and Adrian (granddaughter and husband); Georgie (granddaughter); Becky and Steve (granddaughter and husband); Laura and Pete (granddaughter and partner); William and Ann (grandson and partner); and great grandchildren Joe, Melissa, Maddie, Isabella, Freddie, Kitty, Tom, Alex, Ned and Barney. She also leaves a brother Frank.

She was predeceased by her daughter Susan.

There were family flowers only but donations if desired may be made payable to Cancer Research UK or A L Amyloidosis and sent c/o Roy Folland and Son, 27/29 Cartlett, Haverfordwest SA61 2LH, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mr A J Dade

Pembroke Dock

MR Arthur John ‘John’ Dade of Cross Park, Pennar, Pembroke Dock passed away peacefully on September 25 at Withybush Hospital. He was 88.

Originally from Llanelli, he was a legal executor for the local government until his retirement.

The mourners were Margaret Dade (wife); Jeremy and Bridgette Gullam (son and daughter-in-law); Amanda and Adam Cook (daughter and son-in-law); Anne Dade (daughter-in-law); Dylan Gullam, Katelynn and Scarlett Cook, Jason and Janine Dade (grandchildren); Callum, Cayce, Clayton (great grandchildren); Pauline Williams (sister-in-law); Bradley and Anne Perry (brother-in-law and sister-in-law); Diane Doherty (sister-in-law); Ross Davies (brother-in-law); Hermon Schlender (brother-inlaw) plus numerous nephews and nieces; Janet and Michael Panell (friends); Rachel Howlett (friend); Ian and Christine Cox (friends); Maureen and Richard Connolly (cousins).

There was a private service at the house and the burial took place at St Michaels Cemetery, Pembroke. The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son, Pembroke Dock.

 

Mr F F Knapp

Neyland

MR Frederick Frank Knapp of Riga Avenue, Neyland passed away on October 7 at his home. He was 89.

A native of Neyland, he was a process operator at Gulf Refinery, and he retired 30 years ago.

Fred served in the 1st Airbourne Division as a paratropper.

They landed in the Netherlands during operation Market Garden in Arnhem on September 17 1944.

Fred was wounded while parachuting into Arnhem, which resulted in him having shrapnel in his knee. He became a POW and was part of a mass escape from the POW Camp on the eve of VE Day. When Fred returned to Totton, Southampton he met Neyland girl Ruby Howells who served in the ATS. They set up home in Riga Avenue, Neyland and Fred worked on the trawler’s for 16 years, then at Gulf Oil Refinery before retiring in 1982.

He was predeceased by Ruby Knapp 24 years ago.

Fred joined Neyland Town Council in 1992 then became mayor in 1996 and retired from his duties in 2008.

The family left to mourn are Yvonne and Alan Jones (daughter and son-in-law); Jennifer Knapp (daughterin- law); Sharon and Kieron Knapp (granddaughter and great grandson); Diane, Mick and children (granddaughter, grandson-in-law, great grandchildren and great great granddaughter), Mark, Louise and children (grandson, granddaughter-in-law and great grandchildren); Phillip and Sandra (grandson and partner); Colin (grandson); Kevin (grandson); Claire, Stephen, Caitlin and Dylan (granddaughter, partner and great grandchildren); Jason, Adrian and David Knapp (grandsons); 21 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; Pat and Pam Pattinson (brother and sisterin- law); Hilda, Mary, Sharon and Alan (sister, nieces and nephew) numerous nieces and nephews too many to mention. Cllr Simon Hancock, Mayor of Neyland, who gave a moving tribute to Fred, plus members of the town council attended; Morris and his son (family friends of Fred from Arnhem, Holland) gave a moving memorial to ‘A War Hero and Friend’.

Also the extended family in America, who were unable to attend.

The service was held at St Clements Church, Neyland followed by interment at Honeyborough Cemetery.

It was officiated by Reverend Chadwick and the bearers were Phillip, Mark, Jason, Colin, Mick and Adrian (grandsons).

Tears were shed when ’ We’ll Meet Again’ was played as Fred was carried out of the church with a Union Jack drapped over his coffin and his beret taking pride of place on top.

Donations in lieu of flowers are for Help for Heroes.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, of Milford Haven.
