Pembroke

MISS Dorothy Lavinda James originally from Norgan’s Hill, Pembroke passed away at Bush House Care Home in Pembroke on December 26. She was 89.

During her working life she worked at Croft House Childrens Home, Flax Factory in Milford Haven, Riverside Hospital and finally at South Pembs Hospital until her retirement in 1984.

Her main interests where her family, especially her grandchildren, gardening, holidays and crossword, puzzles and her cats, Smokie and Sophie.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Michael and Annette James (son and daughter-in-law); Susan James and Peter Smith (daughter and partner); Florence Nash (who was more like a daughter than a friend); Robert and Claire, Lisa, Damien, Kimberley, Mark, Melanie (grandchildren); Marcia James and Audrey James (sisters-inlaw), plus numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildrens partners.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on Wednesday January 7 and was officiated by Reverend Canon Roger Jones. The bearers were Michael, Annette, Robert, Claire James, Florence Nash, Damien Sweet and Mark James.

Donations for Bush House, Pembroke or Dementia (Pembs Wales) to Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock SA72 6UR.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son of Pembroke Dock.

Wallis

THE death occurred suddenly on January 6 of Diane Thomas of Nantygof, Wallis at the age of 61.

Diane was the youngest of three children born to the late Lloyd and Ann Mathias, Pentregalar, Crymych. She was educated at Crymych Primary School and Ysgol Y Preseli, Crymych.

After leaving school she obtained a post as an insurance clerk with Liverpool Victoria, Finch Square, Cardigan.

In 1981 she married her husband Alun Thomas, Y Garn, Wallis who was a lorry driver. They had two daughters Bethan and Enfys.

Diane and Alun lived first at Penfro, Puncheston, then at Chestnut Cottage, Ambleston and since 1984 at Nantygof, Wallis.

After her two daughters left primary school Diane was employed for two years at Holland and Barrett at Riverside Quay, Haverfordwest.

Since October 1999 Diane worked as a sales assistant at Peacocks store at Riverside Quay, Haverfordwest where she was still employed at the time of her death.

Diane’s interests included darts, caravanning and vintage tractor runs. Over the years Diane was a popular member of the ladies darts teams at Crymych Arms, Crymych, Cross Inn, Clarbeston Road and for the last seven seasons with the Globe Inn, Maenclochog, where she was affectionately known by the entire league as “Mam”.

Diane is survived by her husband Alun and her two daughters Bethan and Enfys.

Woodstock Chapel was full to capacity for her funeral on Wednesday January 14 with family, friends, neighbours, fellow darts players and all her colleagues from Peacocks, Haverfordwest. Many mourners had to remain outside the chapel.

The Reverend Wiliam T E Owen officiated at the funeral service assisted by Reverend Emyr Wyn Thomas, Diane’s minister at Hebron, and Reverend Geraint Morse, family member, who paid the tribute. The organist was Mrs Anita Smith.

The bearers were Barry, Marc, Cefin and Wyn Mathias, Robert Griffiths, nephews and Darrel Evans, close family friend.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are Alun (husband;) Bethan and Doug, Enfys and Andrew (daughters and partners); Elfed and June, Jeff and Jen (brothers and sisters-in-law); Hywel and Wendy Mathias, Morwen and Vaughan James (uncles and aunts); John and Margaret Griffiths (brother-in-law and sister-in-law); Sharon and Arwyn, Rhian and Rob, Barry and Julie, Marc and Elen, Cefin and Sally, Wyn and Christina, Mair and Jon, Robert and Lisa (nephews and nieces); Sion, Gareth and Emma Thomas (great nephews and great niece) and other family and friends too numerous to mention.

Interment followed at Woodstock Cemetery.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu of flowers for Crymych First Responders and Wales Air Ambulance being sent to Mr John Griffiths, Y Garn, Wallis, Haverfordwest, SA62 5RA.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard.

 

Miss I M Roblin

Jameston

The death occurred peacefully on January 2 at her home, Meadow Road, Jameston of Miss Iris Margaret Roblin.

She was the tenth and youngest child of Mr and Mrs R Roblin of the Rising Sun, Manorbier.

She attended a school for the blind at Bridgend and after her formal education did an apprenticeship of knitting.

She returned home to the Rising Sun at the age of twenty and set up her business in a wooden hut in the garden. She made hundreds of pairs of socks which were sold to family, friends and neighbours and at local shops. She also demonstrated her skills at the Pembrokeshire County Show over many years.

Iris was a staunch supporter of the Guide Dogs for the Blind association and was the present Chairperson for the Tenby and Pembrokeshire Branch.

In bygone years Iris spent many hours walking the lanes around Manorbier with the many trusted Guide Dogs. The last being Maggie who was a huge comfort and companion when her sister Evelyn died.

Her great courage was displayed when she moved from the Rising Sun to her bungalow at Meadow Road where she settled happily. She was able to remain there for seventeen years with the help of her niece Eileen, carers and very loyal and devoted friends.

Her sister-in-law and many nephews and nieces will greatly mourn her passing.

The funeral was held at Penuel Baptist Chapel where Iris had been a faithful member over many years.

The high esteem in which Iris was held was shown by the large number of people who attended the funeral, the chapel was filled to capacity.

The officiating minister who spoke highly of Iris great fortitude was Reverend D Cardwell and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs John Roberts and Son, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock.

 

Mrs P M Mansell

Milford Haven

Mrs Phyllis Muriel Mansell of Precelly Place, Milford Haven passed away at Rickeston Nursing Home on January 8.

She was 84.

As a native of Milford Haven she worked at the co-operative Retail Store in Charles Street, Coopers fruit and veg shop, Market Square, Milford Haven. When she retired she was working at The Corner Shop, Nantucket Avenue, Milford Haven.

Her main interests were her family and she loved her garden.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Kenny and Ann (son and daughter-in-law); Teddy and Linda (son and daughter-inlaw); Billy and Yvonne (son and partner); Joanne, Toni, Rachel, Lisa, Jamie Lee, Sophie (granddaughters); Matthew (grandson, unable to attend); 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchildren plus nieces and nephews; Lyn and Rosemary (close friends).

The funeral was held at Hamilton Court Funeral Home followed by interment at Thornton Cemetery and was officiated by Father Harri Williams.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Son Ltd, of Milford Haven.

 

Mr I F Hay

Pembroke

MR Ian Hay passed away on December 17 peacefully but suddenly at Withybush Hospital after a short stay, with his family around him.

Ian was born at Light-a- Pipe Farm in 1934, he took over the farm from his father Frederick and farmed all his life.

He married Marlene in 1953.

Marlene and Ian celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on December 5 2014.

The funeral was officiated by Rev Geoffrey Howells on December 30, followed by interment at Hundleton Church.

The bearers were Joe Roberts, Simon Davies, Johnny Shutt and Mark Phillips (friends of the family).

The principal mourners are Marlene (wife); Phillip and Christine (son and daughterin- law); Christine and David (daughter and son-in-law); David and Karol (son and daughter-in-law); Julie and Kenny (daughter and sonin- law); four grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

Donations in lieu if desired for British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK can be sent to John Roberts and Son who carried out the funeral arrangements with such dignity.
