Mr W G James

Newport

WILLIAM George James known as Will, passed away peacefully on March 17 at Withybush Hospital with his daughters and son at his bedside.

He was 84 years old.

Will was born the youngest of seven children at Trepwll in Cwm Gwaun then at the age of 11 moved to Newport with his mum. That was when he found his true love and married Joyce.

They were married for over 65 years and had five children, also grand children and great grandchildren.

Will, for many years was a trapper with his late brothers Len and Gwilym, then he went on to building. His work could be seen local and as far as Plymouth.

The funeral took place on March 27 at St Brynach’s Church, Nevern and the bearers were Robert James, Desmond James, Howell Richards and Derek Williams.

The Rev Anthony Wintle officiated.

The principal mourners were Joyce James (wife); Myra (daughter); Barbara and Ken (daughter and sonin- law); Margaret and John (daughter and son-in-law); Brian and Janet (son and daughter-in-law); Peter and Janet (son and daughterin- law); Megan Lewis (sister); Gwynfor and Margaret (sister-in-law and brotherin- law); Dawn (sister-in-law); David and Christine (sisterin- law and brother-in-law) also grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other members of family and friends too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were Mark and Hannah (grandson and partner), Lauren (great granddaughter) from Australia, Dilys Grigg (sister-inlaw).

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu to Newport (Pembs.) Surgery being received by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard who carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mrs M O’Neill

Pembroke Dock

AT the age of 75, Maureen O’Neill passed away suddenly at Morriston Hospital on March 26.

Maureen was the third child of Peter and Elizabeth Bain and was born at 47, MacDuff Street, Lossiemouth in 1939.

Maureen was brought up in Aberlour Orphanage run by the famous Rev. Wolf.

She attended St. Margaret’s Episcopal Junior Secondary School, where she won 1st Prize as Dux of the school.

On leaving school she went to Paisley Hospital to train as a nurse. Two years later, saddled with low pay and increasing debt, she was forced to change careers. In 1958 she joined the staff at the Navy, Army and Air Force Institute.

After a short period of training, she was posted to Dreghorn Camp outside Edinburgh.

It was in Dreghorn Camp that she met her future husband Peter who was serving with The Royal Signals. They fell in love and were married in Edinburgh 1959.

She later moved to Peter’s home town of Milford Haven where all of her four children were born. From Milford Haven the family moved in 1974 to Honeyborough, Neyland where Maureen worked as a Doctor’s Receptionist to Doctor Patterson and Doctor Sheikh.

It can also be revealed now, that the lady who walked from Neyland to Johnston on January 19 1986, carrying a placard with ‘Save the Pembrokeshire Ambulance Service’ blazoned across it, was in fact Maureen. In 1987, Maureen and family moved to Pembroke Dock where she dedicated herself to her family, her home and her garden.

She was predeceased by her youngest child Ross, who died last September.

The family left to mourn are Peter O’Neill (husband); Rocsand, Lynn and Lori (daughters); Kevin Bateman and Jonathan England (sons-in-law); Kylie, Carolyn, Lauren, Connor, Maureen and Sam (grandchildren); Carys, Oisin and Aoife (great grandchildren); Peter and Sheila Bain (brother and sister-in-law); Margaret and Rod Jones (sister and brother in law); Peter and Marie MacLaren (brother and sister- in-law); John and Margaret Doherty (brother and sister-in-law); Edwin O’Neill (brother-in-law); Annie Bain (sister-in-law); Alexander, Alastair, Andrew, Andy, Christopher, Malcom, Peter, Debra, Liz, Joanne, Shona, Katherine and Susan (nephews and nieces); Caroline O’Neill (daughter-in-law) and many others, both here and in Australia, too numerous to mention.

The funeral took place on April 21 at the St. David and St. Patrick Catholic Church, Haverfordwest, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. It was led by Father Liam Bradley, assisted by Rev Deacon Peter MacLaren and Rev.Deacon Tony Lawrence.

The bearers were Connor O’Neill, Jonathan England, Kevin Bateman, Alexander and Christopher MacLaren.

Donations for Aberlour Child Care Trust (Scotland’s Children’s Charity) may be sent, if desired, c/o E.C.

Mrs L M Bellamy

Tenby Formerly of Narberth

The death occurred peacefully on March 28 at Park House Court Nursing Home Tenby, of Mrs Lillian Mary Bellamy (Lily), of Tenby, formerly Narberth.

Lily was the devoted wife of John, who passed away last year with whom she shared 64 years of happy married life.

She leaves to mourn Mike and Susan (son and daughter- in-law); Ann and Derek (daughter and son-in-law); brother Dennis, grandchildren Joanna and fiancé Jon, Thomas, Oliver and fiancée Sara, Hannah and husband Grant and great grandchildren Meg and Max.

Lily was born in Narberth in 1926 the second eldest of five children.

Lily lived the vast majority of her life in her beloved Narberth. Lily was a superb homemaker, always smiling and her house always had a positive friendly atmosphere.

She loved family and friends to visit and there was always time for tea, cake and a chat.

She was a strong supporter of the Church, Mothers Union and Arthritis Research Campaign (ARC). Lily’s first thought was to help anyone in need especially family.

John and Lily spent the first four years of their married life in Henllan.

They moved into Narberth in 1953 and spent 60 happy years there before downsizing to Tenby in September 2013.

Lily’s main pastime was her knitting, the whole family were provided with elaborate and warming jumpers, cardigans and hats. Many still used today! It would be impossible to count the number new baby matinee coats Lily knitted for her family, friends and acquaintances.

It was one of her great sadness that over the last years her failing sight and arthritic fingers made it impossible to knit.

The funeral services at Parc Gwyn Crematorium was officiated by Rev Alan Chaplin who also read the eulogy.

The bearers were Thomas Bellamy, Oliver Simon, Grant Burton and Jon Marshall.

There were family flowers only, but donations, if desired, can be made payable to “Wales Air Ambulance”, c/o funeral directors, W and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd, The Old Rectory, The Norton Tenby, or Landsker House, 21 Station Road, Narberth.

 

Mr A G Thomas

Formerly of Milford Haven

ALAN George Thomas aged 68, died on April 20 2015.

He was the son of Arthur and Vera Thomas of Pill Road, Milford Haven, and a pupil of North Road Boys School and Milford Grammar School.

He left Milford on leaving school to train initially as a teacher and then latterly as an Army Officer commissioned in 1969 he served for 35 years retiring in 2004.

The funeral has taken place.

 

Mr D Morgan

Pentlepoir

MR David Morgan of The Meadows, Templebar Road, Pentlepoir passed away suddenly but peacefully at his home on March 17. He was 72.

He was born at Fords Bridge, Reynalton moving at the age of three to Kilvelgy Farm, Kilgetty with his parents and three sisters.

On leaving school David worked at home on the farm, growing potatoes, tending to the animals and baling hay on local farms.

He met Mary through their respective families and they married in 1962.

David and Mary settled at White House, Jeffreyston to raise their family and it was here that David established the successful pedigree herd at ‘Jeffreyston Guernseys’.

The whole family enjoyed showing the animals at shows far and wide over the years.

In 2012 due to David’s crippling arthritis, David and Mary moved to Pentlepoir to enjoy their retirement.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn are Mary Morgan (wife); Gwyn and Helen (son and daughterin- law); Gareth and Helen (son and daughter-in-law); Susie and Geraint (daughter and partner); Phil, Iwan and Mari (grandchildren); Gwyneth, Dorothy and Hugh, Olive (sisters and brothersin- law); Wilfred, Ivor, John and Heather, Merle and Griff, Gwyn (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law); plus nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend Olive and John, Hugh (sister-in-law and brothers-in-law).

The service was held at St Jeffreys and St Oswalds, Jeffreyston and it was officiated by Revd Paul Boyle.

The eulogy was given by Father Paul Davies and Stephen Preston (nephew) read a poem entitled ‘Furrows and Fields’.

The bearers were Campbell Richards, Terrence Neale, Colin Beynon, Haydn Mathias, Philip Lewis and Hugh James.

Mrs H Day

Neyland

Mrs Harriet Day died suddenly but peacefully at home on April 13.

She was 88.

Born in Liverpool in 1927, one of 10 children, Harriet was evacuated to North Wales during the Second World War before later serving in the ATS.

It was through this service that Harriet met beloved husband David when, as an army driver, he arrived at Aldershot.

Harriet was serving a meal and he asked to borrow a knife and fork.

The couple married in 1949, and settled in Neyland. They were together for 66 years.

Daughter Valerie was born in 1950, and son Alex followed in 1953.

Harriet worked in the college, worked as a cleaner, as a very popular tea lady at the local refinery and then for many happy years as a worker at the Dowty factory in Milford Haven, making many close friends.

David’s love of rugby rubbed off on Harriet and the couple enjoyed a long association with Neyland Rugby Club.

Harriet loved to travel and the couple enjoyed their holidays abroad until recently.

When David suffered throat cancer, Harriet took on the extra responsibility to be his voice too, which she did with aplomb.

Harriet had not been in the best of health for some time but remained cheerful and was greatly uplifted by the regular visits of great granddaughter Lottie.

The amount of flowers, cards and warm comments received by the family show the very high regard with which Harriet was held.

The funeral service was held on Friday April 24 at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.

The Rev David Faulkener officiated.

The principal mourners were David (husband); Valerie and Graham (daughter and son-in-law); Alex and Susan (son and daughter-inlaw); Nicholas and Kathryn (grandson and partner); Lee and Lisa (grandson and partner) and Lottie (great granddaughter).

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Diabetes UK c/o Mr L Day, 13 Honeyborough Grove, Neyland, Milford Haven, SA73 1TQ.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons of Milford Haven.

 

Mr C Morgan

Formerly of Saundersfoot

MR Cedric Morgan passed away at East Park Care Home, Jeffreyston on March 28 at the age of 84.

He was formerly from Saundersfoot.

He spent his whole life associated with Saundersfoot Harbour.

As a young lad he helped his father who rented out canoes.

Then in the 1960’s he did Jet Boat Rides, angling and fishing trips, and then he ran the fish market with his wife Ruth. Cedric would go to sea daily in his trawler and sell the catch the following day.

He then went on to be Saundersfoot Harbourmaster until he retired.

This is where many people will remember him, as a colourful character who always had a tale to tell and inspired many to set sail over the years.

Even after retiring Cedric still visited the harbour every day.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Tara (daughter); Andy and Sandra (son and daughterin- law); Beau and Freddy (grandsons); Ceri, Katie and Debbie (granddaughter); Ioan, Alissa, Darcie and Rory (great grandchildren).

The funeral service was held at St Issells, Saundersfoot and it was officiated by Rev Marianne Osbourne.

Mrs P D Howard-Cook

Lamphey

THE funeral took place recently at Lamphey Church of Pamela Diane Howard-Cook of Cleggars Park, Lamphey.

Pam passed away on April 22, after a short illness, aged 76.

Pam was born in Carsholten, London.

She was the daughter of Kathleen and Basil Seear, who ran Lamphey Driving School for many years.

After working for MI5 in London she met Denver Howard- Cook and they moved back to Pembrokeshire and took up residence at South Hills, Milton, where they lived for over 45 years.

For over 30 years Pam worked at Pembroke Comprehensive School and was immensely popular with staff and pupils alike.

Pam was a very active member in three wonderful organisations, Ladies Circle, Tangent and Inner Wheel, where she held every office available to her. She was in fact treasurer of Inner Wheel until her untimely death.

It was through these organisations that Denver and Pam met and made lifelong friends, who have been amazing to Pam especially since Denver’s death in Feb 2013 and during her short illness.

Pam’s great passion was her animals. Her beloved dogs, especially her black flat coat retrievers were constant companions and Pam was never happier than being with them in her lovely garden at South Hills or walking in the beautiful countryside Pembrokeshire provides.

She also loved horses and for many years, in the 70’s and 80’s, she was active in the South Pembs Pony Club and was well known for organising fabulous coach trips to Badminton Horse Trials.

Pam was married to Denver for over 50 years and devoted to her family.

She was the central figure in giving all her family the most amazing and magical family life.

The funeral was held on May 6, with the service of Thanksgiving at a full Lamphey Church, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.

The chief mourners were Adrian and Simon (sons), Emma and Janine (daughterin- laws), Sophie, Laura, Erin and Cerys (grandchildren).

The bearers were Nick and Andy Paterson-Jones, Doug Bradshaw, Jack Hartnell, Adrian and Simon.

Tributes were given by Adrian and Simon and lifelong friend Sue Paterson- Jones.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Sons, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock who would welcome any donations to The Paul Sartori Foundation.
