Neyland

THE death occurred peacefully at Withybush General Hospital on June 3 of Mrs Beryl Esme Morris (nee Walters) with her family by her side.

She was 85 years old.

She was born and spent her childhood at Bulford Road, Johnston until she married her husband Charlie in 1949.

They then went on to move to Neyland and set up their family home.

Beryl worked in the canteen at Neyland Technical College for over 20 years until her retirement.

Until being predeceased by Charlie, they loved following the Neyland Cricket Teams and spent many afternoons travelling around the County in support of them.

She adored her three children and also had great pleasure in spending time with her four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Keith and Susan (son and daughter-in-law); Jill and Peter (daughter and sonin- law) and Seymour (son); Kelly, Angela and Ian, Nicola and Marlon and Philip and Laura (grandchildren and partners); Bethan, Ellie and Lucy (great-grandchildren) and cousins too numerous to mention.

The bearers were Philip Davies (grandson); Ian Thomas, Marlon Hutchings (grandsons-in-law) and Ian Charles (great nephew).

There were family flowers only, but donations made in lieu of Ward 8/CCU Withybush General Hospital.

The service at her home and interment at Neyland Cemetery was officiated by Reverend Alan Chadwick.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Frank Newing and Shane of Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, of Milford Haven.

 

Mrs J M Munn

Milford Haven

THE funeral took place on May 28 of Joan Marie Munn, Westhill Avenue, Milford Haven.

Born and brought up in Milford Haven, Joan was predeceased by her husband Keith in November 1997.

Joan kept herself busy with the church, Essonians and a local craft group.

Her house was always open for friends and family to pop in for a chat and cuppa and she was informally the local social secretary.

She had a close family and doted on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joan was a kind a generous lady and this was represented with a large gathering for a service at North Baptist Chapel followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

The service was officiated by Margaret Price.

The principle mourners and family left to mourn were Peter and Karen (son and daughter-in-law); Debbie and Philip (daughter and son-in-law); Sarah and Paul, Jamie and Becky, Matthew and Naomi, Sophie, Daniel and Katherine (grandchildren and partners); Noreen and Mike (sister and brother-in-law); Brenda (sister); Morgan, Olivia and Oscar (great grandchildren).

The bearers were Jamie and Daniel Munn, Matthew Rees and Paul Davies.

There were family flowers only with donations to Paul Sartori, c/o Hilary Lewis, 41 Westhill Avenue, Milford Haven.

 

Mr R Arundell

Pennar

MR Ramon “Curry” Arundell of Castle Street, Pennar, passed away peacefully on June 18 at Withybush Hospital.

He was aged 82.

Curry, as he was known served two years in the National Service as a driver, where he met Gwen, who later moved from London and became his wife. He then became a foreman for Tarmac, building the first power station, B&I Ferries and helped build Pembroke School.

A few years later he started up his own business as a building contractor, which he continued up to retirement.

He has had a happy life with Gwen and his family.

They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary earlier in the year.

Curry enjoyed playing chess, checkers and card games and taking early morning walks with Gwen and the dogs around Stackpole Woods and Bosheston Lily Ponds.

Left to mourn is his wife Gwen and family.

The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Nicky Skipworth and was held at St Patricks Church on July 3.

This was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth There were family flowers only and the funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son, Pembroke Dock.

 

Mrs S Davies

Hampshire

Formerly of Burton and Neyland

MRS Sylvia Davies of South Wonston, Hampshire passed away peacefully at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital on June 2. She was 80 years old.

Originally from Burton and Neyland, Sylvia moved to South Wonston, seven years ago.

Sylvia was a dedicated teacher at Neyland Junior School, now Neyland Community School where she taught for almost 20 years.

Sylvia spent many years as an active member of Neyland WI and had many other interests supporting the local community. She was happiest when spending time with her family and her wide circle of friends.

The funeral took place on July 2 at Southampton Crematorium, followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at St Margaret’s Church, South Wonston.

The Revd Karen Kousseff officiated and tributes were read by Helen Gascoyne-Davies (daughter) and the grandchildren.

The principle mourners are Gareth and Jane (son and daughter-in-law); Helen and Mark (daughter and son-in-law); Sylvia’s four grandchildren, Megan, Arwen, Hannah and Ben; Marion (sister); Rebecca and Mark (niece and nephew).

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu to the British Lung Foundation, which may be sent to Richard Steel and Partners, Alderman House, 12 – 14 City Road, Winchester, SO23 8SD or online at www.rsponline.co.uk Mrs D E Richards Cresselly MRS Dorothy Elizabeth Richards, of The Norton, Cresselly passed away at Withybush Hospital on May 29. She was 71.

As a native of Cresselly, she worked at her uncles butchers in Pisgah before becoming a full time wife and mum.

Among her main interests were cricket in particular Cresselly Cricket Club, whist drives, bingo and her greatest love of all taking care of her family.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Ivor (husband); David and Vanda (son and partner); Lyn and Sian (son and partner); Christopher and Claire (son and daughter-in-law); Matthew and Louise (son and partner); Daniel, Jonathan, Oliver, Joshua and George (grandchildren); Maurice Cole (brother), plus numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

The service was held at Pisgah Baptist Chapel on June 10 with a large crowd in attendance showing how loved and respected she was thought of within the community.

It was followed by interment at the chapel cemetery and was officiated by Revd David Gooding together with a personal tribute by Rachel Calvert.

The bearers were Andrew Cole, Hugh Griffiths, Phillip James and Kelvin Arthur.

Mr P H Davies

Llangwm

On June 9, the sad death of Peter occurred peacefully at his home, Meadowside at the age of 80 years.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Peter was born in Llangwm and from the age of 18 months old he lived at Meadowside, son and William and Rosie Davies.

He was predeceased by his devoted brother Jonny and sister Priscilla age 8 ½, many years ago.

He will be sorely missed by his immediate family and friends.

From a young age Peter attended Sunday School at Llangwm Wesley Methodist Chapel. Dedicated to his strong Christian faith of high principles, Peter was a faithful and lifelong member, where he worshipped in his beloved chapel up to several months before his death.

Peter was a plumber by trade and employed for 40 years by Haverfordwest Preseli District Council up until his early retirement in 1991.

Prior to his employment, he had served two years National Service with the Royal Artillery between 1955 and 1957.

After completing 40 years with the council, he had many hobbies, one of which, his passion, was to light up the forge and use his skill in wrought ironwork.

His love of the outdoors, including fishing and walking the dogs and enjoying the solitude of the countryside was amongst his many other interests.

He was a former member of the Haverfordwest Male Voice Choir for a number of years, Peter was a gifted 2nd bass singer, enjoying his male voice singing and also the annual chapel anniversary choir from a young age. He retired from the male voice choir in the 1990’s.

The funeral service took place at Llangwm Methodist Chapel on June 18, officiated by Rev Hugh John Wilson and assisted at the service by Rev Aled Jenkins.

Many friends and past work colleagues of Peter attended the funeral to pay their respects.

The bearers were Jeremy Brock, Jonathan Brock, Jamie Evans and Stephen Bolt.

The family mourners who attended the funeral were Mrs Margaret Davies (wife); Mr Jonathan Davies (son, Australia); Natalie (partner, unable to attend); Mrs Jane Brock (niece) and Mr Jeremy Brock; Mrs Ria Jones and Mandy Jones, Mr Tony and Mrs Nan Philpin (cousins); Jennie Brock (great niece); Jonathan Brock (great nephew) and Babz Davies (fiancé).

Unable to attend due to ill health Mrs Betty Davies (sister- in-law); Mrs Dorrie and Mr Arnold Allen (cousins).

Grandchildren in Australia Addiena, William, Morgan and Meredyth.

The funeral arrangements were carried out with dignity by Mr Robin Folland, of Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

 

Mr E J Herrmann

Merlins Bridge

MR Ernst Josef Herrmann of Mill Lane, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest passed away peacefully at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen on June 18.

He was 90.

Born in Tiengen, Black Forest in Germany in 1925, he married Jean in 1950.

After marrying he worked for Greens Motors in Haverfordwest and went on to set up his own successful business as a painter and decorator.

After retirement he spent his time in his beloved garden and visiting many friends and he attended the Catholic Church regularly.

He was predeceased by his wife Jean in 2002.

They had four children Susan, Jan, Caroline and Paul; partners Decker, Eddie and Elaine; four grandchildren Emma and Adam, Joe and Sam; two step-grandchildren Nathan and Kirsty; four great grandchildren Lucy, Eve, Ella and Fearne.

Unable to attend were his family from Germany and Switzerland Helen, Josef, Gerhard, Thelisia, Elsbeth, Christina and Andreas.

The service was held at St David and St Patricks Roman Catholic Church, Haverfordwest followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth. It was officiated by Fr McGreal in a gracious and comforting way.

The bearers were Paul Herrmann, Nathan Proctor, Eddie and Sam Donnelly, Adam Thomas, and Darren John.

The Mary Immaculate School Choir took part during the service, which touched many hearts.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and Susan Price, in a sensitive and dignified manner.

 

Mr R Couzens

Castlemorris

ROY Couzens, Granston Hall, Castle Morris passed away suddenly but peacefully at Withybush Hospital with his family beside him on May 23 aged 65 years.

He was the youngest of five children and had lived in the area all his life, living in Granston since the age of seven.

His elder sister Joan and brother Herbert both predeceased him.

He studied to be a surveyor in Pontypridd Polytechnic before he came back to farm at Granston Hall with his wife Elaine and brother Herbert.

A kind, quiet unassuming man, a true gentleman with a good sense of humour who was always willing to help others if he could.

He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

This was reflected by the large gathering of family, friends and neighbours who attended the funeral which took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on June 4.

The family left to mourn are Elaine (wife); James and Anne Lyse, Lawrence and Lucy (sons and daughtersin- law); Rachel and Gerwyn (daughter and son-in-law); Sibylla and Sebastian, Claudia and Annabelle (grandchildren); John Couzens (brother-unable to attend); Jane Harries (sister); Dorothy James (mother-in-law); Ruth and John Owen (sisterin- law and brother-in-law); Lort and Joan James (brother- in-law and sister-in-law) as well as many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

The bearers were Gerwyn Richards (son-in-law), John Harries, Geraint Evans, Ken Thomas, Huw James and Keith Morris (close friends).

The service was officiated by a family friend, the Rev.

Canon Roger Jones, who read a touching eulogy.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard.

Mr B Cook

Jordanston

BRYAN died on June 20 on Ward 10, Withybush Hospital surrounded by his wife Jill, son Stephen and daughter Rachel.

He was 75.

Born in Staveley, Derbyshire, his father was an inspector on the railways and his mother was a fantastic housewife.

Bryan trained as a colliery electrician and worked down the mines for 15 years.

He was also a RSPCA Inspector.

In 1978 he moved to Pembrokeshire and was employed by Welsh Water as an electrician, soon rising to chargehand and finally clerk of works.

The main thing in his life was his wife Jill; son Stephen and daughter Rachel; grandchildren Antonia, Ben, Rhys, Bethan and gorgeous little Chloe.

His main hobbies were big carp fishing, falconry, dog showing, caravanning and supervising Jill in the garden, he also loved good holidays in Kenya, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Australia and New Zealand to name just a few.

Also left to grieve are his sister Betty and husband Allen, brother Derek and Margaret and last but not least son-in-law Derek, daughterin- law Lisa.

The family have had fantastic support from David Palmer and Dennis Watts.

The cremation service took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

 

Mr K Coates

Formerly from Pembrokeshire

AFTER a long a brave journey, Kevin sadly passed away on June 24 at the age of 34.

We are all devastated but glad of his release from pain and suffering.

He was courageous and kind to the end. He died peacefully and as the man we all knew and loved, for this we are grateful. We will never forget his strength and fearlessness during the last five years, but will cherish and treasure our fondest memories of him.

He was born in Pembrokeshire and grew up in Cosheston, before moving away to live in Bristol.

The family left to mourn are his mother, father, two sisters, a brother, a nan and a nephew and a niece.

Although it was cruel for anyone to spend so much time in hospital and endure so many complications and illnesses, the staff at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre were a great comfort and support to Kevin. It was Kevin’s wish that there would be no formal funeral.

Mr I K G Jenkins

Mathry

MR Islwyn Kenneth George Jenkins (known as Ken) of Tregriffith, Mathry passed away peacefully on June 18 with his family around him at his home Tregriffith, after a brief illness courageously born.

Ken was a native of Castle Morris and he attended Mathry and Fishguard schools before leaving at an early age to work on the farm of Mr Morgan of Trewalter before branching out into farming on his own in LLangloffon and the Tregriffith.

Ken was an honourary member of 79 Squadron, Brawdy until it was disbanded.

He also enjoyed flying with his friend Pete John a Captain with British Airways and ex fast jet pilot at Brawdy, becoming a passenger in the vintage plane airshows that took place around the country, which he enjoyed.

Ken will be sadly missed by his wife Maureen; daughter Janet; son-in-law Mark; his three grandchildren Sarah, Sian and Oliver and step grandson Jamie.

He also leaves Mr Wyn Jenkins and Mrs Susan Jenkins (brother and sister-in-law); Glenys Donald (sister); Mr and Mrs Graham Jones (sister and brother-in-law), plus nephew and nieces too numerous to mention.

The bearers were his four nephews Andrew Jenkins, Steven Donald, Dr Andrew Jones and Dr Christopher Jones.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth on June 25 and it was officiated by Rev Geoffrey Eynon.

Mrs D Edwards

Llanreath

MRS Derrill Edwards of Chapel Road, Llanreath, Pembroke Dock passed away on June 10 at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest.

She was 65.

Originally she was from Kent.

During her working life she was a cook at the fire station in Pembroke Dock.

Her main interests were her beloved dogs Bear and Wolfie, her family, motorhoming and also watching most of the soaps on TV.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were David Edwards (husband); her beloved dogs; Kevin and Soraya (brother and sister-inlaw); Brett and Wayne (sons); mother-in-law to Samantha, Gemma and Marc; Sophie, Leo, Abi, Finley and Rosie (grandmother); Hannah (best friend).

The service was held at St Johns Church followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery, Pembroke Dock.

It was officiated by Rev Nicky Skipworth and the bearers were Phil Bowen, Graham Callan, Darren Keniford, Paul Dyson, Dai Neville, Dai Lloyd (Fire Service).
