Mrs O Warlow

Rosemarket

MRS Olwen Warlow of Rayntree County, Rosemarket, passed away at her home on October 1. She was aged just 65.

Olwen was born in Milton but at an early age she moved with her family to nearby Cosheston, where she lived until her marriage. She attended the local primary school and then secondary school in Pembroke Dock, leaving at the age of 15 to take up employment, at that time feeling the need to help her mother and father with six younger brothers and sisters still at home to feed and clothe. She worked for several years in the Woolworths store in Tenby where she was respected by work colleagues and customers alike.

Her ambition was however to pursue a career in nursing and at the age of 18 she was delighted to be accepted on to a nurse training programme in Haverfordwest. Olwen was quiet, caring and unassuming by nature and this was to be her true vocation and in the hospital environment she excelled. During her training and after qualification she worked on the various wards at the old County Hospital in Haverfordwest.

Olwen met Ashley in 1972 when they both attended the Annual Nurses Ball in the old Market Hall in the town. They subsequently married and had a lifetime of happiness together. Upon her marriage she moved to Rosemarket and they built their new home together in the middle of the village. She took a break from her nursing career when her two sons were born and afterwards the family became uppermost in everything that she did. Olwen also supported Ashley in the many aspects of his community and public relations work with Gulf Oil at every opportunity.

When her sons were in their teenage years she returned to her nursing career, but this time with the Paul Sartori Foundation, where she was appointed as a Home Hospice Nurse, working with terminally ill patients all around the county for many years until her own health problems surfaced. She was widely respected by families wherever she went.

In 2008 Olwen was diagnosed with breast cancer and had various ongoing courses of treatment over many years to keep the illness at bay and which she did with great strength and conviction.

Olwen was a devoted member of the church from a young age. In her early years she regularly attended Cosheston Mission Church and took part in all of the associated young people’s activities. She was a member of the Nurses Christian Fellowship whilst in the County Hospital and attended local church and chapel services in the town whenever her work pattern allowed. She became a regular member of Rosemarket Church after moving into the village.

Her faith remained important to her throughout her life.

The funeral took place in Rosemarket on October 12 with the cortege leaving the family home and walking the several hundred yards to Rosemarket Parish Church, where the funeral service was held. The principal mourners were Ashley (husband); Christopher and Lowri (son and daughter-in-law) and Simon and Annabel (son and daughter in law); granddaughter Pegi Alys was unable to attend. Many other close family members and friends, far too numerous to mention individually, joined the many hundreds of mourners who attended the service which was a celebration of Olwen’s life.

The service was officiated by Rev Alan Chadwick and Rev Steve Bessant. Bible readings on the theme of true and enduring love and faithfulness from the Book of Ruth and from Corinthians were given by David Barrah, a longtime friend of the family and member of the church. The heartfelt eulogy was delivered by Olwen’s brother the Rev Norman Gilbert. The organist was Mrs Jennifer Hayden.

Flowers for the church were kindly provided by the ladies of the church.

The bearers, close friends and family members, were Tony Wales, Bob Clarke, Harry Davies, Joel Gilbert, Miles Howard and Graham Spencely.

The service was followed by interment in the village cemetery directly opposite the church and in a special location which Olwen had chosen beforehand.

Donations in memory of Olwen for the “Withybush Hospital Cancer Day Unit Appeal”

Mrs M L Lewis

Haverfordwest

Formerly of Letterston

A service of thanksgiving for the life of Margaret Louisa Lewis (Peg) and also remembering her beloved husband Brian who died on July 9 1982 was held at Parc Gwyn Narberth on October 5. The bearers were Leon and Lewis Payne (grandsons), Ewan Payne (great grandson), David Payne (son-in-law) and Sue Payne (daughter).

The family present were Sue and Dave Payne, Leon and Leanne Payne, Lewis and Saska Payne, Robin, Joyce, Phil and Lorna Heseltine and Din, Paul and Nydia Phillips.

Great grandsons Ewan, Ethan and unable to be present, but equally loved by Peg were great grandsons Noah and toddlers Mason and William.

Pegs love for all her family never wavered, as did the love for her by all the family, demonstrated in remembrances of her life led in what was described as a moving and love filled service of thanksgiving led by her grandsons Leon and Lewis Payne.

Born in Manchester, and a qualified seamstress, she joined the Land Army and moved to Letterston experiencing country life for the first time, where she met and married her late husband Brian, part of a poem he wrote for her in 1952 said “I only hope our love will be unending” which is why the family wanted to include remembrance of Brian with Peg during the service. Pegs proudest moment was having a civil service medal for working in Trecwn for many years and previous to that a job as a Nursing Auxiliary in Sealyham and Kensington Hospitals which she loved so much.

Peg had led an independent, active and healthy life until her illness six years ago, with her animals she loved so much and her garden, her roses were her pride and joy.

Peg we will love and miss you so much always.

The funeral arrangements were carried out with compassion by Roy Folland and staff, of Haverfordwest.
