Trefin was where her family roots were. She went to school in the village and described this period of her life as one of the happiest. She returned to Manchester at the end of the war but soon had to leave school to help run the family home after her mother suffered a stroke.

She helped bring up her younger brother Jim, whom she remained close to thereafter.

She regularly returned to Trefin where she met her husband Bryan. They later married and set up home in Manchester, but the call of rural west Wales was too much, and they returned to live in Precelly Crescent, Goodwick, which remained the family home for over 50 years. Bryan passed away in 1998.

Betty is survived by daughter Marion and son Andrew, son-in-law Mark, daughterin- law Pauline and grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Ceri and Sian.

A loving husband to Wendy for 33 years, dearly loved dad of Nicholas and Joshua along with their partners Katie Morgan and Claire Wiggins, his grandchildren Dottie and James; older brother Frank and his wife Alison; Diane (sister) and David Neale (brother-in-law and long time friend); Lucy (niece) and Evan (nephew); Mrs Audrey James (mother-in-law); Roy and Sue James (brother and sister-in-law); Darran James (brother in law); Dylan James (nephew); Sam (nephew) and partner Amy Lewis and Poppy (great niece).

He was preceded by his father Harry in 2008 and his mum Teri Jones in 2014, of Golygfa, Chapel Hill, Maidenwells, Pembroke.

A very full church of extended family, friends, colleagues from Pembroke Power Station showed the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him.

Graeme was born in Balham in London, lived both Ashbourne and Chaddesden in Derby as a child, moving to Pembrokeshire at the age of 17, when his father secured a position at the then the new oil fired power station, Graeme transferred his apprenticeship with the Electricity Generating Board at Spondon Power Station to Carmarthen Bay, at Burry Port, where he was met off the train by Roy James, who become his future brother-inlaw.

He had numerous sporting interests, played football for Carew Football Club in the 1970’s, played squash for Woodridge ‘D’ team, sub aqua diving, badminton, basketball, cycling and running, he also enjoyed Autograss with his younger son Josh and his good friend Clive Kennington.

In 1976 he became Scout leader in Lamphey, where he would teach the boys to swim, ride a bike, abseil and took them on Summer camps, again with one of his good friends who he managed to trick into joining the scouts, Mr David Hunt.

He met his future wife Wendy, best friend and lover in the early 1980’s were engaged in 1981 and married a year later at Whitland Church in1982, their son Nicholas was born in 1985 and Joshua in 1992, their family was complete.

He, Wendy and the boys enjoyed many wonderful holidays, caravanning to France and Spain, trips to Pakistan, Australia, America and their apartment in Tenerife.

In 1995 he decided to return to education through work and he graduated in 1995, he was so proud to have achieved this as a mature student, and went onto become an Incorporated Mechanical Engineer.

They designed and built their own house in the late 1990’s, he was very much hands on when he could be home, but when the Power Station in Pembroke closed, he was forced to work away for a while, but missed his family far too much and returned first on contract work with A C Automation, then to work for Pembrokeshire County Council in 2006 in the building maintenance department.

He was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, had chemo and radiotherapy, he returned to work, first back with the council and then secured a job with the new Pembroke Power Station which he knew and loved.

In 2013 he was diagnosed with another cancer, more rare and very aggressive, after various treatments, sadly Graeme lost his long bravely fought battle on July 27 this year at Ward 10 Withybush Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends.

During his childhood he loved card games, board games and magic tricks and often used to teach the boys and their friends his knowledge of what he had learned, and later on he would show the boys in the Power Station some of his ‘best’ card tricks, and some (terrible) jokes they will never forget!

He also loved gardening whilst he was unwell and used to grow lots of Sunflowers for his colleagues and friends, and then have a competition on Facebook as to who had the tallest ones.

Graeme was a strong willed, hard working person that loved to share his knowledge and zest of life with others, and helped all that crossed his path, whether it be through work, friendship or anyone in need of his advice and knowledge. Graeme’s favourite saying was “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. He will be sadly missed by many of family, friends and all that happened to cross his path in life.
