Mrs A Lawrence

Narberth

Mrs Annie Lawrence passed away on November 9.

Annie was born in Landshipping and lived during her early years in Llawhaden, Lawrenny and Martletwy.

Following her marriage to her late and dearly loved husband Cyril, they settled initially in Cross Hands near Narberth moving to Redstone Road in Narberth, with their young family. In their retirement, they moved to Parc Roberts and lived there happily until Cyril’s death in 1995, where Annie stayed among her close neighbours and friends until she passed away.

While at school she worked for Mr Lewis of the Folly in Martletwy milking cows, collecting eggs and housekeeping before and after school.

During the war she brought milk to the American soldiers billeted at Lawrenny Castle who were protecting the Sunderland Flying boats and often told how she was rewarded with chocolates for her trouble. Having left school she went to work at James Williams Brewery in Narberth where she made many friends whom she carried with her throughout her life.

In the following years she left James Williams and went to work for Tom and Winnie Pritchard at New House Narberth, working on the farm and caring for the young Pritchard boys John, Tom, Bill and Evan while Winnie was unwell.

Laterly she worked at Yerbeston Farm for Hector and Molly Jones where she was very happy leaving only when she married.

Once married she settled down and along with Cyril raised their growing family creating a very happy home for themselves and their children Eira, Jane and Huw.

For a time she worked at the newly opened Royal British Legion sheltered housing complex in Northfield Road and in her later years at Cawdor Court in Narberth caring for residents.

Following Cyril’s passing, in thanks for the tremendous support we as a family received from Paul Sartori Foundation during his illness, she began volunteering in the Paul Satori Shop in Narberth. She made many friends during the 12 years she worked there.

She enjoyed many hours in the company of her friends at the Mothers Union. These friends have stayed with her across the years even when her health began to fail.

She enjoyed a constant supply of visitors to the house being friends and family and all enjoyed a warm welcome.

She had an ability to make friends wherever she went and had a brilliant sense of humour.

She made people smile and had time for everyone.

She loved gardening and flowers especially and was never happier than spending hours in her garden.

In later life when gardening was getting beyond her she got immense pleasure from planting and caring for her pots which were invariably outstandingly beautiful.

Her greatest pride was her family, including her children Eira, Jane and Huw, seven grandsons, Christopher, Alex, Elliott, Llyr, Oliver, Morgan and Rhys, her granddaughter Lucy and her great grandson Iori who was the apple of her eye. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all of her friends, neighbours and family.
