Johnston

MRS Audley Veronica Lewis of Vine Road, Johnston passed away peacefully at Withybush Hospital on December 21 2015.

Audley was born in Llanelli in 1918. She was a fluent Welsh speaker and after leaving school she worked as a cook in an Isolation Hospital in Llanelli before being transferred to another Isolation Hospital in Bournemouth.

Following her marriage to her late husband Cyril in 1939 she spent the early part of the war living in Bristol with Cyril’s job. He was transferred to the RNAD in Milford Haven, where Audley and Cyril rented rooms in Stratford Road. She moved to Johnston before the end of the war.

Audley supported Cyril in his business known as the Halfway Garage for many years. She loved cooking and spent many hours in her garden, which was always a credit to her. She also loved going off in her caravanette with Cyril and they made many friends during these trips.

The family left to mourn are Michael and Marion (son and daughter); Shirley and Rob (daughter-in-law and son-in-law); Debbie and Lydia (granddaughters) and husbands Julien and Billy; Stephen, Martyn and Adam (grandsons) and their partners Amanda, Julie and Jodie; great grandchildren Samantha (partner Mark), Amy, Kurt (partner Elle), Heidi, Alice, Jack, Ashton, Benjamin and Finlay; great great grandchildren Lexi, Neo, Jai, Yazmin and Quinn.

The funeral service took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on January 4 and the service was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans.

The bearers were Stephen Lewis, Martyn Lewis, Adam Rogers and William Elrick.

The eulogy was read by her great granddaughter Alice Fisher.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and Son of Freystrop.

 

Mr W D Brown

Treffgarne

The death has occurred suddenly but peacefully of Mr William David (Dai) Brown of Rosemary Hill Farm, Treffgarne, Haverfordwest.

He was the younger son of Elwyn and Gladys Brown and had lived at the farm all his life. He is survived by Fiona (daughter), Meyrick and Janet (brother and sister in law), June (sister) together with several nephews nieces and cousins.

Aged 74, the deceased had not enjoyed good health for several years and had frequently attended clinics and had been a patient in hospital at Haverfordwest on numerous occasions.

An excellent neighbour and a widely known and highly respected figure in agricultural circles, he was well recognized as a superb stockman having gained valuable experience as a teenager being employed firstly by Mr Colin Nicholas at Mount Joy and later by Mr Charles Rees at Dudwell.

He also took up employment for several years with the Pembrokeshire Pest Control Society before returning to take over, from his parents, in running the family farm which he did successfully for some thirty years. More recently health problems had necessitated that he give up active farming and he turned to carrying out seasonal work as a busy agricultural contractor.

He will be remembered as an active supporter and follower of the Pembrokeshire Hunt and he served the Pembrokeshire Show for many years as a steward in the cattle classes.

He enjoyed the companionship of a wide circle of friends and his other passion was in nurturing wild pheasants and the mallard which frequented the ponds in his locality.

An exceptionally large and representative gathering were present to pay their last respects at the funeral, which took place at the Parc Gwyn Crematorium, when the principle mourners were his immediate family and a very wide circle of friends.

The service, which included a poignant solo by Mr Anthony Morgan, was conducted by Rev Geoffrey Eynon (close friend) who was assisted by Rev Dr Wynford Thomas and Rev Martin Spain. Rev Aled Jenkins was unable to be present.

There were family flowers only but donations in lieu, for the Paul Sartori Foundation, are being gratefully accepted by Mrs Gaynor Hancock, Thornbush, Camrose, Haverfordwest.

Messrs Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fishguard undertook the funeral arrangements.

 

Mrs L R Edwards

Goodwick

THE funeral of Lily who passed away peacefully at Parc-y-Llyn Nursing Home, Ambleston on December 21 2015, took place at Harmony Chapel, Pencaer on January 4.

She was 92 years of age.

Beloved wife and mother of the late Willie and Derrick.

The service was officiated by Rev. Geraint Morse, Rev.

Geoffrey Eynon, Rev. Aled Jenkins and Rev. John Roberts.

The burial took place at the adjoining cemetery.

The principal mourners are Eveleen, George, Dyfrig, Hazel, Eifion and Elfair (sons and daughters); Neville, Alison, Elaine, Stephen, Sylvia, Tim and Stephen, Julie, Clayton, Tania, Mike, John, Hannah, Emily, Rebecca, Michael (grandchildren); Casey, Rob, Luke, Kelsey, Abigail, Jasmine, Rhoswyn, Carwyn and Celyn (great grandchildren); Ruby, Demi and Chloe (great great grandchildren) along with many relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were Wayne (grandson), Sue Leach (friend).

The bearers were Neville, Stephen (grandsons), Richard, Reg, Raymond and Rhys (friends).

The organist was Mrs Valerie Llewhelin.

Mrs S Walters

Merlins Bridge

MRS Sybil Walters passed away on December 17 at her home in Tudor Gardens, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest, surrounded by her family.

She was 70.

Originally from Pembroke Dock she worked for Pembrokeshire Care for 15 years as a community care worker, a job which she loved.

Her children and her grandchildren were her life.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Lydia Hardman (daughter); Kate Van Koten (daughter); Neil Walters (son); Joshua Hardman, Liam Van Koten and Max Van Koten (grandsons); Hannah and Tom Starkey (step grandchildren); Matt Van Koten (son-in-law); and Sue Starkey (daughterin- law); Margaret Davies and Audrey Carolan (sisters); Graham Phillips (brother), plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on December 29 and was officiated by Reverend Nicholas Cale and Reverend Belinda Roberts. The bearers were Matt Van Koten (son-in-law); David Phillips (nephew); Nicholas Phillips and Carl Llewellyn (family friend).

Mrs L Rowlands

Pembroke Dock

MRS Lilian Rowlands of Hamilton Court, Pembroke Dock passed away on December 13 2015 at her home. She was 83.

As a native of Pembrokeshire she worked in the Skate Factory, Pembroke Dock and also Davis Steel.

Her interests included television, reading and her family.

She was predeceased by her husband Edward Sidney Rowlands.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are William and Katrina (son and wife); Edward and Julie (so and wife); Susan and Paul (daughter and partner); June and Simon (daughter and partner); Theresa, Shaun, Jasmine, Harry, Tyla, Bailea, Jemma, Connor, Tina, Kirsty, Sophie, Kaylee and Lewis; great grandchildren Kasey, Harley and Lily.

The service was held at Bethany Baptist Church followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery and was officiated by Rev Elizabeth Squires.

The bearers were Edward and William (sons); Harry and Lewis (grandchildren).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son, of Llanteg, Narberth and Pembroke Dock.
