THE funeral took place on Thursday January 21 at Parc Gwyn Crematorium of Mrs Redna Jean Howell, aged 83, who passed away peacefully on January 7 at Williamston Nursing Home.

Redna was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Logan Howell in February 2015.

Redna was born in Bearsden, Glasgow in 1932 and attended Park Private School until her family relocated to Richmond when she was 16 years of age.

Redna attended modelling school and spent time as a catwalk model, her love of fashion continuing throughout her lifetime.

Following Redna’s marriage to Bill in March 1958 in East Sheen, Surrey, they moved to Radyr, Cardiff where their three sons Douglas, Gary and Richard, were born.

In 1972 Bill’s work brought them to Pembrokeshire and to a new home in Newgale.

As well as her role as an enthusiastic home-maker, Redna worked as a doctor’s receptionist, in a local pottery and also opened a shop in the country town with her daughter-in-law, Gaynor, specialising in soaps, body lotions and bath oils.

Redna enjoyed holidays, shopping and socialising but more latterly had become increasingly confined to the house. The move was made to a bungalow in Crundale in 2010, where Bill provided dedicated 24 hour care for several years until his own health meant he was unable to continue to do so. Redna moved to Williamston Nursing Home in Houghton, close to her youngest son, in March 2014 where she was later joined by Bill, for several months.

Redna leaves to mourn her sons Gary and wife Gaynor, Richard and partner Fiona, Douglas and wife Karen; grandchildren Stephen, Lisa and Anna together with her brother Aidan and his wife Jenneth and other family and friends.

Unable to attend the funeral were Monica Howell, Bill’s sister-in-law, niece Roanne Moore-Loizides and nephew Warwick Moore.

The bearers were Gary and Richard Howell (sons), Aidan Moore (brother) and John Paul (family friend).

The eulogy was read by Ray Paul (family friend).

Mr A T Robertson

Hakin

IT is with great sadness that we report Mr A T Robertson (Tony) of Waterloo Road, Hakin, suddenly passed away on December 26 at Morriston Hospital, aged 79.

Tony was a Milford Haven boy and attended North Road Boys School and later Milford Haven Grammar School.

At the age of 15 he went to sea working on the trawlers with his dad, at 16 he joined the merchant navy and travelled the world for the next 12 years.

After a short period working at O’kells shipping chandlers’ he started work at the gulf oil refinery where he spent the next 30 years of his working life taking early retirement when Gulf closed.

It was at Gulf he obtained the nickname ‘Scooby’.

In 1966 he married Shirley John and they went on to have their four children.

His main interests whilst working and in retirement were growing chrysanthemums and being a valued member of Milford Haven Chrysanthemum Society, gardening, socialising at the Waterloo Club and spending time with his many friends and family.

Tony could always be seen with a smile on his face in the shops around Milford, Hubberston Dairy, Welsh Bakery, David Etheringtons Butcher, where he often met up with his many friends.

This was a big part of Tony’s life, along with a lot of time spent just helping others, anyone who needed help.

The family left to mourn are Shirley Robertson (wife); Jane Robertson and Graham Bevan (daughter and son-inlaw); John and Donna Robertson (son and daughter-inlaw); Andrew Robertson and Gilli Parkes (son and daughter- in-law); Michael (son); Craig Robertson and Kimberley Davies (grandson and partner); Scott John and Cole Forest (grandson and partner); Vicki John, Iwan Robertson, Chloe Picton, Layla Robertson (grandchildren); Joan and Billy James (sister and brother-in-law); Helen (niece); Donald Robertson (brother); June and Tommy Richards (sister and brotherin- law); Wally Robertson and Debbie (brother and sisterin- law); Barry and Margaret Robertson (brother and sister-in-law); Mrs Gwyneth Davies (good friend), plus many nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces and friends.

The service took place on January 5 at St. Katharine’s and St. Peter’s Church, Milford Haven, followed by interment at Milford Haven Cemetery.

It was officiated by Father Harri Williams and the bearers were John Robertson, Andrew Robertson, Michael Robertson (sons), Graham Bevan (son-in-law), Craig Robertson and Iwan Robertson (grandsons).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, of Milford Haven.

 

Mr D Spriggs

Blackpool

Formerly of Hakin

MR David Spriggs passed away at the age of 80 on January 17 at his home at Marine View, The Esplanade, Fleetwood, Lancs.

He was born in Hakin, Milford Haven.

He completed Army National Service in Aden in1957, then trained as a carpenter.

After his national service he married Pat and lived in Haverfordwest where he was well known on the darts scene, mainly playing with the Lamb and then the Plasterers.

He also enjoyed watching football, particularly Chelsea.

In 1980 he moved to London and became a landlord at various pubs across London.

He retired to Spain, where he lived for the best part of 20 years, but he returned to Fleetwood a year ago due to ill health.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Pat (wife); children from a previous marragie David, Wendy, Jane, Ian, Paul and Susan.

The funeral was a private service as David’s body was left to medical science.

 

Mrs E R Neilson

Pembroke Dock

AFTER a short illness the death occurred suddenly but peacefully on December 17 2015 at Morriston Hospital, Swansea of Mrs Ellen Rankin Neilson of Albany Street, Pembroke Dock.

Originally from Glasgow, Ellen and her late husband Hugh moved to Pembrokeshire with their young family in 1964.

The family left to mourn are Aileen Saunders and Reg Light (daughter and partner); David and Alex Neilson (son and daughter-in-law); Helen Charlett (daughter); Sadie McFeggan and Anna Ferguson (sisters); grandchildren Lee and Mark Brimacombe, Joshua Saunders, Martyn Charlett, Rachel Morris, Loren, Ryan and Georgia Neilson, Adam, Lewis and Morgan Poole and their partners; great grandchildren Phoenix Brimacombe, Gwen and Elsie Morris, Kasey (great granddaughter).

Unable to attend the funeral service were Anna Ferguson (sister); Martyn Charlett (grandson); Georgia Neilson (granddaughter); Mr and Mrs J Cloughley (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Sarah Brimacombe in Dubai.

The bearers were Lee and Mark Brimacombe, Joshua Saunders, Ryan Neilson, Adam Poole and Paul Edwards.

There were family flowers only, donations in lieu of flowers c/o John Roberts and Son, Bush Street, Pembroke Dock. Donations received to go to British Heart Foundation and the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Cardiff, The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Robert’s Funeral Directors, of Pembroke Dock.
