Mrs E Lauagharne

Milford Haven

THE death occurred peacefully at Ashdale Care Home, Pembroke of Evelyn Laugharne on March 7. She was 100 years old.

Originally from Gorlestonon- Sea, Norfolk, Evelyn’s first marriage was to Fred Blockwell, a Milford Haven trawler skipper. He was killed in 1943 while on active service.

Evelyn came to Milford for the remainder of the war, returning to Gorleston at its end before finally settling in Milford in the mid 1950s.

Later she married again to a near neighbour, Billy Laugharne who died in 1982.

Evelyn was much involved in local activities, particularly in ones of an artistic and creative nature. She took an active part in The Townswomen’s Guild, the Thornton WI, Milford Ladies Choir, and The Arts Club and The Milford Museum in its early days.

Like so many women of her generation Evelyn did not have the chance formally to develop her artistic talents.

Nevertheless, in later life she seized every opportunity to learn through art history lectures and in art workshops.

She exhibited her own paintings at many local art exhibitions and galleries.

The funeral service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium was on March 18 and was led by Mike Ashbridge. It was attended by her daughter, son-in-law, members of her family by marriage, friends, neighbours and former carers.

There were flowers and donations to the Stroke Association.

Further donations can be made via Barclays Bank, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.
