TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular farmers wife from Spittal namely Undeg Sandbrook Jenkins (nee Lewis).

Undeg aged 50 sadly passed away on February 14 at Withybush Hospital following a short illness.

Undeg spent her early childhood at Ffynonlwyd Farm, Llangynin and following her school education she attended Pibwrlwyd Agricultural College.

Her interest in farming began at a very young age following several visits to Carmarthen Mart selling heifers with her late father John.

Undeg was a faithful and successful member of St Clears YFC and was often seen singing alongside her late sister Eleri, who sadly passed away during July 2015.

Following her marriage to John, Undeg moved to Spittal in 1991 to farm at Lower House Farm and soon became a very popular character within the village and the county.

Undeg touched the lives of many, and this was evident by the large gathering at St Mary’s Church, Spittal on February 22. The service was officiated by Rev David Rees, a fitting eulogy was given by Canon Eileen Davies and Rev Geoffrey Eynon led the prayers.

The bearers were Michael George, Roland George, John Lewis, Michael Lewis, Malcolm Evans and David Morgan.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn are John (husband); Ceri and Aled (daughter and partner); Carwyn (son); Marlene (mother); Norman and Mary (parentsin- law); Gwilym and Janet (sister-in-law and brother-inlaw); Haydn (brother-in-law); James and Nia, Georgina and Arwel, Joy and Emyr, Llyr and Rhodri (nieces, nephews and partners) as well as extended family and friends too numerous to mention.

Donations if so desired for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Paul Satori Foundation c/o Paul Jenkins and Sons of Fishguard, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Milford Haven

MRS Mary Cynthia Thorne of Thornton, Milford Haven passed away on March 6 at her home. She was 99.

Originally from the Rhondda Valley, as a child Cynthia attended school at Wolfscastle and Taskers, then to Aberystwyth University, where she obtained a BA degree in English.

She taught in Shrewsbury, before marrying in Thornton Baptist Church in 1938 to a farmers son. The marriage was officiated by her father Rev D B Jones, the minister for 34 years.

Cynthia had three children and encouraged them to get a good education.

She made friends of all the villagers, helped on the farm, and fed everybody who came there.

She loved entertaining her family and friends. In her later years she was a devoted nurse to her husband George Rowland Thorne, who passed away in 2002. She resolved to stay in her home with the help of her family.

From 1928 she was a lifelong member of Thornton Baptist Church, organist and treasurer, and President of the Baptist missionary society in Wales.

The family left to mourn are Roland Thorne, Rosalie Stephens, Georgina and John Llewellin (children); Michael Wasserson (family friend); Miranda and Malcolm (B/ ham); Louise and Gareth Fair, Roderick Stephens (Aust); Roland and Lisa Llewellin, David and Lisa Llewellin, Kate and Justin Scale (grandchildren); Daniel, Oliver, Rowan and Aled (Aust); Sally, Annie, Charlotte, Georgia, Sam, Megan and George, Lauren, Tom and Lewis (great grandchildren); Isaac Turney (B/ham).

The service was held at Thornton Baptist Schoolroom followed by interment at Milford Haven Cemetery and was officiated by Mrs Margaret Price.

The bearers were Gareth Fair, David and Roland Llewellin and Justin Scale.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd of Milford Haven.
