She went to Malvern Girls School and in 1940 went into the WRAF where she monitored enemy Morse transmission and later maintained radio sets.

After that she worked as a farm secretary and then for the social services in Leeds.

In the mid 50s she answered an advertisement for a job as a cook in the farmhouse on Skokholm, catering for ornithologists on the island.

This made a lasting impression on her and gave her a love of birds and wildlife that endured even when she could no longer identify the species she was watching or listening to. She worked on the island for a couple of summers and also at the field studies centre in Dale Fort.

This was in the early days of dinghy sailing at the Dale Yacht Club and it was there that she met William Kenneth Rose, who was running the market garden on St Thomas Green in Haverfordwest.

They were married in June 1958 at St James Church in Dale. They lived in Haverfordwest bringing up their four children Peter, Kathrin, Philip and John, but maintained their connection with Dale through the sailing club and their annual holidays in Blue Anchor Way.

During this time, her children were her priority but she worked at various times as a telephone operator and seasonal nursery work and she also volunteered with The Samaritans, the Guides and Age Concern.

In 1974 Ken and Pauline moved to live in Dale at Canthill Cottage.

Pauline worked in the office at Dale Sailing Company when it was still based in the village.

Pauline became secretary of the Dale Yacht Club whilst Ken was serving as the commodore.

In 1987 with Kens health failing they moved to Colyton in Devon.

Ken died in 1991 and Pauline returned shortly afterwards to Pembrokeshire to Trefin where she was to welcome her children and grandchildren to stay.

From Trefin she moved to Tretio to be closer to family and finally at the age of 89 into Langton Hall Residential Home, Scleddau where she died peacefully.
