LILY passed away suddenly but peacefully on Friday 15th July surrounded by her family.

She was 85 years of age.

Lily was born, Edith Lily Hughes, at Tatinclave, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan on 6th October 1930 and was the youngest of six children.

She has one brother surviving, Robbie Hughes, who is 91 years of age.

Lily worked as a nurse in Armagh Hospital in Northern Ireland until she married Joseph Dodds in 1951.

They came to Pembrokeshire to make a new life for themselves the day after their marriage moving into Pant yr Eglwys, next to the church in Llysyfran. Joe predeceased her in 1986.

Lily’s main love was her family, and raising her six children and running a home kept her busy.

Her other interests included growing flowers and vegetables and a passion for country music with “Big Tom”

being her favourite as he also came from Castleblayney and she met him many times on trips ‘home’.

A service of celebration and thanksgiving for her life took place on Monday 25th July at St. Brynach’s Church, Henry’s Moat, Tufton followed by interment in the Church cemetery and attended by a large gathering of relatives and friends.

The service was officiated by the Rev. Fr. Nick Cale and the Eulogy given by Richard Dodds (son). Mrs Angela James presided at the organ for the singing of the hymns All things bright and beautiful and How great Thou art.

The bearers were Dai Breen (son-in-law), Matthew Rowe, Daniel Davies, Oliver Evans (grandsons), Connor Rowe and Tommy Rowe (great grandsons).

The principal mourners were Pheniah and Royston, Bronwen and Dai, Ann and Steve, Richard and Stacey, Grace and Tim, Kerry and Jeanette (children and partners), Matthew and Katherine, Kerstie, Sarah and Pete, Kyle, Daniel and Julie, Kelly, Jemma, Oliver (grandchildren and partners), Stacey, Connor, Katy, Bethan, Ieuan, Tommy, Tess, Lewis and William (great-grandchildren) and William and Trevor Smyth (nephews).

Unable to attend the funeral was Robbie Hughes, Lily’s brother from Castleblayney.

The professional and dignified funeral arrangements were carried out in a caring and respectful manner by Roy Folland & Son.

E M (Nell) Kenniford

Cosheston

THE death of Eleanor May Kenniford (known as Nell) occurred at Withybush Hospital on July 16. She was 94.

A native of Monkton, prior to marriage Nell worked at WH Smith & Sons, Pembroke Dock where she met Vera Kenniford, who was to become her sister-in-law and a very dear friend.

On marrying Ivor and moving to Cosheston, Nell devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

One of her pleasures in life was baking wondrous cakes for family and friends and her renowned ‘Spudfield Cake’.

Nell was a regular and respected worshipper at St.

Michael’s Church, Cosheston which was reflected in the large number of people who attended the service.

Nell was pre-deceased by her husband Ivor, her daughter Maureen and grandchildren Adele and Nicola.

The family left to mourn are Roy and Margaret, Phil and Ann, Ralph and Audrey (sons and daughters-in-law); Joan and Lynn, Sheila and Garry (daughters and sons in law), Mal (son-in-law) together with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Unable to attend, being overseas, were Natalie, Stuart and family – Lee and Craig.

On the evening prior to the funeral, Nell was taken to rest overnight in church when the bearers were: Mal (son in law) Jason, Richard, Andrew (grandsons), Nigel and Ross.

On the day of the funeral, the bearers were: Ralph (son), Mal (son in law), Richard, Andrew (grandsons), Nigel and Jason.

The funeral service was held at St Michael & All Angels Church, Cosheston on July 27. Rev Carolyn Wood officiated.

Mrs R M Geen

Kilgetty

MRS Rosalie Margaret Geen, of Lyndhurst Avenue, Kilgetty, passed away peacefully at her home on July 9, aged 98.

Originally of Penarth, Rosalie was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed family life and walking and fishing in the National Park.

She was predeceased by her husband George Albert Geen.

The family left to mourn are daughter Jill, son-inlaw Mike, grandson Martin, grandson-in-law Greg, grand daughter-in-law Siân and great-grandchildren Tom, Charlotte and Charlie.

The funeral was held on July 22 at Jeffreyston Church and Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was conducted by Reverend Paul Boyle.

The bearers were Martin Bowmer, Gregory Hender, Tom Hender and Mark Parsell.

The arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, Funeral Directors and donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Wales Air Ambulance c/o E.C.

Crundale

(formerly Ambleston)

MRS Evelyn James passed away at Withybush Hospital on July 5th. She was 89.

Evelyn was born in Port Talbot, the eldest of six children to Jack and Evelyn Toop.

She moved to Pembrokeshire in 1951 when she married Vincent, who predeceased her in 2006.

They farmed at Hayog Farm, Ambleston for 40 years until their retirement in 1990, when they moved to Woodholm Close, Crundale.

There, they made good friends with new neighbours and they spent a happy retirement there, celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2001.

She enjoyed baking, music and trips to the South coast.

She spent the last few years being cared for at Blaenmarlais care home and more recently at Bush House, Pembroke.

The family left to mourn are Margaret, Dorothy and Geoff (sisters and brotherin- law), John, Ken and Christine (brothers and sister-inlaw) also numerous nephews and nieces, neighbours and friends.

The bearers were Vince Ward and Paul Thomas (nephews), Michael Thomas and Michael Williams (great nephews). The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and officiated by Father McGreal on July 14th.

The professional and dignified funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins & Sons, Funeral Directors, Fishguard.

Mrs E A P Beddis

Pembroke

THE death occurred suddenly but peacefully at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, on Thursday June 30th, of Mrs Eileen Ann Pearl Beddis, aged 74, of Paynter Street, Pembroke.

Eileen was known by many for working at the Eastgate Hotel and Fernhill Farm Flower Nurseries.

She was a much loved wife of Gordon, mother of John, Arleen and Carl, mother in law to Sarah, Richie and Janet and grandmother and great-grandmother to all her treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She has also left her loving brothers and sister, Charles, Connie and Tony.

Eileen will be greatly missed by all her family, adopted family and friends.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on Tuesday July 12, followed by a celebration of her life at Bethany Chapel.

A lovely service was led by Liz Squires, followed by tributes from her children.

There were family flowers only but donations if so desired, for The Coronary Care Unit at Withybush Hospital, can be sent to John Roberts and son, funeral directors, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, who conducted the funeral arrangements.
