Mr W Dunn

Milford Haven

MR William (Billy) Dunn passed away peacefully, at Canterbury House, Priory Road, Milford Haven, on August 6, and following a service at Christ Church, Priory Road, Milford Haven, Mr Billy Dunn was cremated at Parc Gwyn, Narberth on Friday August 12.

He was born July 25 1921 in Port Sunlight, Bebington, Cheshire, the only boy of five children, and on leaving school, went to work for Lever Brothers in Port Sunlight.

During the war he joined the Army and on radar training, was posted to Pembrokeshire.

In Milford he met, and married his first wife, Ethel.

After the war he made his home in Milford and worked as a pipefitter for the Gas Board, and then for many of the sub-contractors on the oil refinery sites.

He was a fervent union man and became local Secretary of the PTU.

After 30 happy years of marriage, Ethel died from cancer in 1972 and five years later he married his second wife, Audrey, who, after another happy 30 year marriage also died from cancer.

As well as his family, Billy always loved music, was an accomplished harmonica player and, in the 1970’s, taught himself how to play the organ, which led to him becoming the popular Saturday night resident organist at the Sir Benfro, in Herbrandston.

He enjoyed having a daily flutter on the horses, and will be remembered for being the “male voice” for many years on the tapes of the Talking Mercury.

His happy-go-lucky outlook, cheerful disposition, and caring nature, made him many friends in the area, some of whom travelled more than 200 miles to attend the funeral.

Classed as “a Milford character” Billy will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

The principal mourners are Jeff (son); and Carole (daughter-in-law); Jeff (stepson) and Julie (step daughterin- law); Janet (step-daughter) and Mike (stepson-in-law), together with step grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews from both sides of the family.
