Cresselly

A MOVING service of memories for the lives of Gareth Willington, of Cresselly, and his son Daniel, was recently held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

Affectionately known as ‘Spike’, Gareth died in a tragic accident at sea in April of this year. He was aged 59. Daniel is still missing.

A native of Pembroke, among Gareth’s main interests were fishing, his grandchildren, rugby, football and golf.

As well as his wife Gail, family left to mourn are Mary (mum), Darrell, Richard, Jonathan and Anna (brothers and sister), as well as nephews, nieces, cousins, aunties, uncles and friends too numerous to mention.

Daniel’s family: Gail (mum), Alice (wife), Roxanne and Pixie (daughters), John and Val Evans (grandparents), Mary (grandmother), Robert (a lifelong friend), aunties, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.

At the request of the families, dress for the service was smart/casual.

A guard of honour was formed by local fishermen and shooting friends, who walked in front of the colourful casket which displayed Gareth and Daniel’s boats, The Gowan Star and Flowing Tide II.

By request, there were no flowers, apart from those picked from Gareth’s garden.

Two close friends sold fishermen pin badges in aid of The Fishermen’s Mission.

Officiating at the service was the Rev Huw George, while bearers were Martyn Cole, Roger Scourfield, Kenny Swan, Leon Simes, Nick Howells and Richard Jones.

Mrs Judith Ann Smith

Pembroke

MRS Judith Anne Smith of Trafalgar Road, Tenby, passed away peacefully attended by her daughters on September 23rd at Withybush hospital following a short illness.

She was 62. Born in Pembroke, Judy lived her childhood in Cardiff and Pembroke Dock with her mother Dorothy May and stepdad Ronald Cross.

She attended Pembroke Grammar School.

Judith was a staunch supporter of Welsh nationalism and the country’s culture and heritage.

Her working life was mostly spent with Coral’s - prominently as manager of Tenby branch. Judy was passionate in her love of horse and dog racing, organising many race track visits. She was a natural bookie, always a smile and a joke, quick with the odds and fair and straight.

Judith loved travelling both within the UK to racecourses and especially to Italy with husband Ron. In later years she succumbed to the Pembrokeshire scenery spending many hours wandering its ways.

Family was her rock, especially her two daughters Melanie and Rhiannon, and in later years her grandchildren. The family pet was always a much-loved dog. Many happy hours were spent on trips and excursions with them.

Judith leaves to mourn her husband Ron and daughters Melanie and Rhiannon. Her grandchildren Kai, Callum, Emeli and Seren, her mother Dorothy May and brother Chris, former husband Alan and their respective partners. Lastly too numerous to name other relatives, friends and above all work colleges and punters.

The funeral service officiated by Rev Nicky Skipworth was held at St John’s where Judy had attended Sunday school, on Friday, October 7, what would have been her birthday.

The bearers were sons in law David and David and nephews Stephen and James.

Judith was buried at St Daniels Church cemetery in Pembroke where her grandparents were interred.
