Mr K E Scourfield

Carew

THE community of Carew and beyond was greatly saddened at the untimely death of Mr Kelvin Edward Scourfield (Kelly) on March 4 at his home in Kesteven Court, Carew. Kelly was 62. Although he had been unwell for some time, Kelly’s passing came as a great shock to his family and to all who knew him.

Kelly was born to the late Stanley and Catherine Scourfield and grew up in the village of Carew, attending Sageston and Greenhill schools before being taken on as an apprentice by the late Bill and Stuart Lewis of W P Lewis and Son. This became a job for life for Kelly, who only recently was awarded a certificate acknowledging his 46 years of service at the garage.

Apart from his obvious interest in all things with an engine, Kelly had a great love of sport. He was a devoted season ticket holder at Llanelli Scarlets for many years as well as a loyal supporter of Carew Football and Cricket Club. Kelly loved socialising and spending time with his friends over a pint. He also had a keen interest in his garden and would often share the fruits of his labours with friends and neighbours.

Kelly was a good community man, working to raise funds for the Sports Club, participating in Village Carnivals and was even sponsored to dye his hair blonde in aid of Cancer Charities.

As his health deteriorated, Kelly’s wish to remain at home was achieved by the loving care of Tony and Robert, supported by Kelly’s daughter, Faye and his many good friends and neighbours.

The Care at Home team also provided much appreciated help.

A large gathering of family and friends attended Kelly’s funeral service on March 17 at Pisgah Baptist Chapel, Cresswell Quay. The officiating minister was Reverend David Gooding. Two touching yet humorous tributes were paid during the service by Nick Scourfield and Kerry Waters. The bearers were Robert, Nick and Martin Scourfield, Keith Hughes (cousins), Clive Cole and Andrew Jones (workmates and friends).

Kelly leaves to mourn a beloved daughter, Faye and Richard (partner), a family of cousins, his workmates and many, many, dear friends.
