Mrs J Llewellyn

Burton

MRS Janet Llewellyn passed away peacefully on May 23 at home at The Hays, Burton aged 77.

Janet grew up in Nolton Croft and then Williamston in Houghton with her sister the late Jill Llewellin with whom she had a very close and happy relationship. She was a great scholar reading pure and applied mathematics in Aberystwyth University and later went on to teach mathematics within the local secondary schools and college.

Many locals have Janet to thank for their ultimate careers through her excellent teaching of what can be a challenging subject.

On July 27 1963 Janet married the late John Llewellyn and embraced with passion and enthusiasm her role as a farmers wife and teacher together with being a loving mother to Gilly, Anna and Graham.

After John was taken from this world too soon, Janet returned to her love of painting and became a well respected artist within Pembrokeshire, exhibiting at several local galleries. She travelled extensively with her art friends and was considered highly by her peers in the art world.

Janet lived life to the full and had wonderful friends and family. She will be fondly remembered for her creativity, her great sense of humour, her love for an adventure and most of all her kindness and compassion to others. Her energy and sense of fun was infectious.

The service was held at St Marys Church, Burton followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn officiated by Rev Steve Bessant.

The family left to mourn are Gilly (daughter); Anna and Viv (daughter and sonin-law); Graham and Lynwen (son and partner); and Anwen (granddaughter).

Lena’s greatest love was her extensive family, especially as each new generation came along and she became Aunty Lena and Nan Lena to so many.

Mrs H W Cole

Hundleton

FAMILY and friends gathered at St David’s Church, Hundleton on June 29, to attend the funeral service to celebrate the life of 85 year old Hilda Winifred Cole, daughter of the late Frederick and Anne Hathway of Tynewydd Farm, Hundleton and beloved wife of 56 years of Stuart Cole, Cricket Grove, Hundleton.

She passed away peacefully, after a short illness, at Glangwili Hospital on June 17.

The service was officiated by the Rev Graham Nash and assisted by the Rev Martin Cox with a reading by the Police Chaplain and a tribute of her life by Lin, her niece.

Hilda will be sadly missed by a large community, family and friends but most of all by Stuart Cole, (husband), sisters Molly Davids and Bena Richards and brother Reggie Hathway; brothersin-law Mervin and Gordon Cole and sister-in-law Pauline Hathway. She was a cherished and special aunty to Julie, Lin, Ang Rena and the late Giles; Dawn, Roy, Tony, Terry, Jo and Hugh; John, Hazel, Christine, Wendy and Sandra; Anne, Jane, Brian, Barry and Helen; Stephen and Nigel; Colin and Barry; Paul, Glyn and Christopher and Justine. She was a special great Aunt to Annika, Oliver and Louis.

Hilda was born and brought up on her parent’s farm but on her marriage in 1961 spent many years in different parts of the county as she accompanied her husband Stuart, on his postings as a member of the Pembrokeshire Police Force – first to Haverfordwest, then Tenby and finally Milford Haven before they eventually retired to Cricket Grove in Hundleton.

Hilda had enjoyed her work as a shop assistant and was well thought of by all whom she came into contact with.

She was a cheerful and likeable member of each of these communities but she really relished returning to Hundleton where she and Stuart spend a very happy retirement and where she was a stalwart of the community.

Nothing was ever too much trouble for her and she gave generously of her time, and money, to a great many causes.

Hilda was one of the first and leading members of the Hundleton Women’s Institute and a member of the Mother’s Union – she provided the magnificent banner which represented the group at major gatherings and meetings throughout the county.

Hilda enjoyed being a member of the local flat mat bowling team and, up until her stroke two and a half years ago, rarely missed a practice session or match.

She was a very proud and keen gardener and was an enthusiastic member of the Pembroke Gardening Club and delighted in travelling around the country on their many well-organized trips.

It was so very fitting that the flowers on the day were her favourite red roses, just like her bridal bouquet and the family wreaths were made up of her favourite flowers in shades of pink, mauve and purple.

She was great company and always had a smile and a great sense of humour and made time for others too, as a good listener and trusted friend.

She loved to travel and she and her husband covered almost all of the British Isles and many parts of Europe and China too. She was a keen photographer and recorded her life and adventures in pictures. Hilda was a great cook - her Welsh cakes were legendary. She also enjoyed macramé classes making intricate cushion covers and lampshades and floral pouches for St David’s Church, Hundleton where she had been a regular and dedicated worshipper throughout her life.

Stuart and family were grateful for the many kind expressions of sympathy received in their bereavement.

She was kindly and devotedly cared for by the staff on Padarn Ward at Glanwili Hospital.

Funeral arrangements were carried out by Neil Roberts Funeral Director.

If desired, donations in lieu of flowers in memory of Hilda for St David’s Church, may be sent to Mr Keith Wheeler, Old Furzon Cottage, Yerbeston Lane, Maidenwells, Pembroke SA71 5EH
