Carew

MR Paul Richard John Brown (known as Brownie) passed away at his home in Kesteven Court, Carew on August 3.

He was 65.

As a native of Pembroke Dock, he worked for Pembrokeshire County Council in Tenby.

His main interests were his family, tropical fish, he had a great love of cars, mainly the classical type.

The family left to mourn are Monica Bittle (partner); Kara and Peter Rossi (step-daughter and husband); Angelo and Georgia (step-grandson and partner); Dario (step grandson) plus family and friends.

The funeral service was held on August 16 at St Caradog’s Church, Lawrenny followed by internment at the church cemetery.

It was officiated by Father Paul Davies and the bearers were Angelo Rossi, Dario Rossi, Peter Rossi, Darren Hay, Adrian Davies and Paul Hay.

Mrs A George Begelly MRS Audrey George of New Road, Begelly passed away at Withybush Hospital on July 31.

She was 78.

Originally from Kilgetty her early working life was at Tenby Laundry, later on lived and worked in the Begelly Arms, where her husband Ted was manager. Both worked together at Meadow House Caravan Park and catering at Oakwood.

Her main interests were her family and her five grandchildren.

Audrey was a church warden at St Mary’s Church, Begelly along with hand bell ringing and craft club at St Mary’s.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Ted George (husband); Karen and John, Louise and Layton (daughters and sonsin- law); Christopher and Simon, Aled, Jac and Georgie (grandchildren); Valerie (sister) plus cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

The service was held at St Mary’s Church, Begelly followed by interment at the church cemetery. It was officiated by Revd Caroline Mansell.

Audrey was received into the church the previous evening where her daughters Karyn and Louise were bearers.

The funeral bearers were Layton Waters, John Merriman, Mark Greenhalgh and Jack Perry.

Mrs D Webb

Hakin and Milford Haven

MRS Doreen Webb, a resident at Pencoed Residential Home, Saundersfoot passed away on August 10 at the age of 88.

Doreen was born on August 9 1929 at 4 Brick Houses, Pill, Milford Haven to May and Earnest Beavis, one of eight children.

Doreen grew up in Pill and as a child spent many happy days exploring the local beaches with her childhood friends. Something she fondly recalled in later life.

After school she worked briefly in the local lemonade factory before making fishing nets and ropes at Milford Docks during the heyday of its fishing industry.

Doreen enjoyed accompanying her friends Joan and Cicely to local dances something they reminisced about in later life.

On Doreen’s 21st birthday she married Arthur, they married at St Katharines church and went on to enjoy 67 years of marriage together.

Shortly after marriage the couple moved to Plymouth to be near Arthur’s family.

However Doreen missed her friends and family in Milford and they returned some 18 months later.

Remaining in Milford until Doreen took ill which forced a move to Pencoed Residential Home, Saundersfoot.

Doreen spent most of her married years devoting her time to Arthur and their four children and building a home for them.

Doreen will be greatly missed and is mourned by her husband Arthur; children Michelle, Beverley, Martyn and Nicola; grandchildren Andrew, Chris, Addy, Oliver and Finley and great grandson Harry.

The funeral was held on August 24 and was officiated by Father Harri Williams at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons of Milford Haven.

Mr G Scourfield

Haverfordwest

Formerly of Tenby

MR Gerald Scourfield of Haven Park Close, Haverfordwest passed away on August 20 at Park House Court Nursing Home, Tenby.

He was 96.

After he left school at the age 14 and was apprenticed in the haberdashery department of T.P. Hughes & Son, Tenby.

He left to serve in the R.A.F.

as an aircraft fitter for five years, stationed in Kenya, West Africa. On his return he became part of the sales force at T.P. Hughes & Son, becoming Furniture Manager. In 1967 he was appointed General Manager of T.P. Hughes & Son, Haverfordwest until his retirement in 1982, he said of his 47 years service, “I couldn`t have worked for a better firm”.

His main interests were fishing, gardening, collecting jokes and playing games with family.

He was a faithful member of Wesley Methodist Church in Tenby and Haverfordwest, and then Albany Church serving in many capacities, including Sunday School Superintendent and Society Steward. He was an active member in Tenby Masonic Lodge. After retirement, he supported his wife Betty as she became National Treasurer of Townswomen`s Guild, culminating in his attendance at a Buckingham Palace Garden Party and meeting Princess Anne on several occasions.

He was predeceased by his wife Betty Scourfield in 2003.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Vivienne Elborne (only daughter); Francis Elborne (son-in-law); Siân Greenwood and husband Martin, Daniel Elborne and fiancée Chrystal (grandchildren); Zachary, Graham, Luke Greenwood and Daniel Elborne (great grandchildren); Stephen John (nephew) and partner Mary; Ann (niece) and husband Philip Lewis; Robert Williams (nephew) and partner Mari.

The funeral service was held at Albany Church, Haverfordwest, Thursday August 31, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

It was officiating by Rev.

Hugh-John Wilson and the bearers were Graham Thomas, Terry Brace, Dorian Evans and Daniel Treharne.

Mrs E M Bryan

Llawhaden

MRS Ethel Bryan died peacefully surrounded by her family at West End, Llawhaden on August 3 at the age of 81.

She was the eldest of seven children of Tid and Maggie Phillips. Ethel was born in April 1936 at Cotland Mill Cottage, Llawhaden.

She met Brenig in 1957, and they were married in April 1959, where they set up their home at Colman House, Llangolman, where they had six children. In 1984 they moved to West End.

One of Ethel’s greatest joys were when the 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren visited.

Ethel’s funeral took place on Saturday August 12 at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth. The Rev Peter Thomas from Aberystwyth officiated the service.

The family mourners are Brenig (husband); Leighton and Marilyn, Helen and Mick, Katrina and John, Tracy and Marcus, Mark and Rhian, Julie and Keith (son, daughters and in-laws); Gareth, Susan, Sara, Sian, Tom, Emily, Geraint, Aled, Emma, Michael, Robert, Lisa, Lisa and Sam (grandchildren); Ffion and Sioned (great grandchildren); Lena, Beryl, Florence, Wyn, Len, Kathy, Gethin, Jennifer and Elwyn (sisters, brother and in-laws) along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

Unable to attend were Arthur and Valeria (in-laws).

There were also a large number of friends and neighbours present.

The bearers were Ethel’s grandsons Gareth Bryan, Tom Day, Geraint and Aled Jenkins, Michael Lord, Robert Davies and Sam Phillips.

There were immediate family flowers only and any donations in lieu of flowers for The Paul Sartori Foundation, Narberth Health Centre and Kidney Dialysis Unit, Haverfordwest can be sent to Ken Davies and Sons, Funeral Directors, Clunderwen, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
