Mr G. G. J. Roberts

Herbrandston

THE death of Glenville Gordon James Roberts (Jimmy), of Havens Park, Herbrandston, occurred at Withybush Hospital on December 3rd. He was 51.

The son of Gordon and Delma Roberts, he grew up in Thornton and Dewisland Street, married in 1979 and lived in Herbrandston for the last 25 years.

He was a time served carpenter and worked away from Pembrokeshire as a shopfitter for ten years before returning to set up a family business, J. and T. Carpenters, with his son Timmy.

His main interests included his family and friends. He supported Herbrandston AFC and loved to watch Welsh international rugby. He played the drums and was a great musician.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Angela Roberts (wife); Timmy, Jamie and Gareth (sons); Kirsty (daughter); Claire, Layla, Lisa, Ollie (partners); Libbie and Liam (grandchildren); Delma Roberts (mother); Sheila and Graham Davies (sister and brother-in-law); Nicky Roberts (brother); Martin, Paul Davies and family (nephews); Des and Susan Galdo.

The funeral took place at St Mary’s Church, Herbrandston, on December 11th, followed by interment at Milford Haven cemetery. Rev Sian Wight officiated. The bearers were Timmy Roberts, Jamie, Gareth, Paul and Martin Davies and Des Galdo.

Donations for ward ten, Withybush Hospital can be sent to Des Galdo, 8 Havens Park, Herbrandston.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs M. E. Webb

Haverfordwest

Mary Elizabeth Webb, of Prendergast, Haverford-west, died at her home on December 4th. She was 82.

A native of Prendergast, she worked in Woolworths, then Cleddau Cafe, Bridge Street, and was a caretaker at Prendergast CP School when she retired.

Her interests were her family and Prendergast church. She was also a member of the Mothers’ Union for 60 years and a founder member of the open group.

She was predeceased by her husband Bert Webb in 2005. They were married for 62 years.

Family left to mourn are: Sonia, Ingrid, Barrie and Cheryl (daughters and son); John, Jean and Michael (sons and daughters-in-law); Allison, Steve, Steven, Timothy, Marianne, Lisa, Geraint, Andrew, Simon, Gina, Rebecca and Adam (grandchildren); Jacob, Elis, Jack, Megan, Trisha, Gareth, Kirstie, Stacey, Shannon, Callum, Keira, Gethin and Evan (great-grandchildren); Molly Jakeway (sister-in-law); Alan and Sharon (nephew and partner).

The service was held at St David’s Church, Prendergast and the officiating clergy were Canon G. Gwyther, Rev A. Clarke, Bishop Wynn Evans, Canon J. Lean, Canon D. Evans, Canon C. Bowen, Rev G. Eynon, Minor Canon J. Bennett, Rev M. Plant and Rev D. Davies.

The bearers were John Griffiths, Michael Riggs (sons-in-law); Steven Griffiths, Adam Riggs (grandsons).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Sons, Haverfordwest.

Mrs H. M. Freathy

Milford Haven

THE death of Hilda Marion Freathy (nee Powe) of Milford Haven, occurred at home on December 13th.

A native of Swansea, she trained as a nurse and worked for several years at Cefn Coed hospital before moving to Goodwick with her husband.

In 1957 she moved to Milford Haven and for many years was the publican of the Dinas Hotel, in Victoria Road. Hilda spent a lot of time with her family. She enjoyed meeting people and travelling, spending time in Norway and Scotland. She was predeceased by her husband Hoskin in 1986. Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Dianne and Fritz (daughter and son-in-law); Marian and Victor (daughter and son-in- law); Paul and Iris (son and daughter in law). Malcolm, Charles and Donna, Helene, Annalisa and Tom, Iestyn and Gethin (grandchildren and partners); James, Elle, Olivia, Ewan and Lewis (great-grandchildren); Leonard Charles Powe (brother), also Julie, Alun, John, Garnett (nephews and nieces).

The funeral was held at Hamilton Court funeral home on December 17th and was officiated by Rev Paul Bartlett Unable to attend were Alun and Susan (grandson and wife) Megan and Dylan (great-grandchildren, New Zealand).

The bearers were John Williams (nephew), Tom Price (grandson-in-law), Charles Larsen (grandson), and Paul Freathy (son).

Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to the Paul Sartori Foundation.

Mrs H. C. Paget

Jordanston

THE death of Hilda Carol Paget, of St Marys Park, Jordanston, occurred at Withybush Hospital, on November 27th. She was 68.

A native of Worcestershire, she worked at Hop Developments and as a self-employed poultry farmer.

She enjoyed horse riding, was a Llanstadwell community councillor and was a member of Neighbourhood Watch for the Jordanston settlements.

Family left to mourn are: James Paget (husband); Janet Jennings, Tracy Hussell and Sally Hussell (daughters); Nick Beasley, David Jennings and Steven Hunt (sons-in-law); Emma Bailey, Rebecca Blood and Christopher Jennings (grandchildren).

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn, Narberth, on December 2nd, and was officiated by Rev Paul Boyle.

The bearers were David Jennings, Nicholas Beasley, John Eames, Cyril Evans.

Mr T. McGeown

Milford Haven

THE death of Thomas McGeown of Milford Haven, occurred at Torrestin Nursing Home, Tiers Cross, on December 9th. He was 72.

A native of Belfast, he moved to Milford Haven when he was 16. He worked as a deck hand, later joining the merchant navy, before becoming a rigger.

He spent most of his working life employed by Shell as a barge superintendent in South America and the Middle East.

His final employment was with Cotton building contractors until his retirement in 2002.

He loved walking his dogs and was a life-long supporter of Celtic Football Club. He also enjoyed writing poetry.

Family left to mourn are: Marina Joy (wife); Teresa and Dai, Lynn and Brent, Katherine and Ieuan, Sharon and Viv, Moira and Paul, Sinead and Hugh (daughters and son-in-laws); Thomas and Sam (son and daughter-in-law); plus 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

The funeral was held at St Francis R C Church, Priory Road, Milford Haven, on December 17th, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth, officiated by Father Dominic.

The bearers were Dai, Brent, Ieuan, Viv, Paul and Hugh (sons-in-law).

There were family flowers only, donations for Torestin Nursing Home can be sent to Brent Humphries, 32 St Margaret’s Close, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest.

Mr T. J. Y. REES

Hayscastle

THOMAS James Ypres Rees died peacefully at Torestin Nursing Home, Tiers Cross, on December 1st. He was 87.

His early working life was spent on local farms.

After military service he worked in Trecwn, where he met his wife Peggy. He later returned to work on the land and was employed by L. P. Morris, Hayscastle.

In 1965 the family moved to Milford Haven where Tom worked as a bus driver with National Welsh Company.

His interests included playing the keyboard, bingo and cars.

He was predeceased by his wife Peggy, daughter Margaret and stepson, Wyn.

The principal mourners are: Glyn and Annette (son and daughter-in-law); Mary (daughter); Rachel, Simon, Louise, Thomas, Hayley (grandchildren), together with carers from Torestin.

The funeral on December 8th was followed by interment at Milford Haven cemetery.

Unable to attend were Pamela and Lesley (daughter and son-in-law living in the Bahamas); Mervyn (son-in-law); Richard, Edward, Paul, Mark, Steven, Beverley, Katrina, Rebecca and Kate (grandchildren). The bearers were Simon and Thomas.

There were family flowers only. Donations in lieu can be sent to Torestin Nursing and Residential Home, Tiers Cross. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs D. J. Jenkins

St Ishmaels

THE death of Doreen Joyce Jenkins (nee Bevan), of Crosshill, Trewarren Road, St Ishmaels, occurred at her home on December 1st. She was 77.

Born in Haverfordwest, she started working life at Kensington Hospital, St Brides, and then worked as a cook at Withybush Hospital.

After retiring in 1986, she devoted time to her family and friends. She was a keen reader.

Predeceased by her husband Erwyn in 1997, the family left to mourn are: Colin and Elaine, Robert and Jayne, Clive and Melanie (sons and daughters-in-law); Gareth (grandson); Hadyn and Michaela (grandson and fiancee); Charlotte (granddaughter); Rhys and Luke (grandsons); Blodwen and Sheila (sisters); Gwyn (brother), also numerous nephews, nieces and cousins from Milford Haven, Haverfordwest and Yorkshire.

The funeral was held at St Ishmaels Church, on December 9th, followed by interment at St Ishmaels cemetery. Rev Sian Wight officiated.The bearers were Roy Cheshire, David Howells, Malcolm Orton and Michael Pawlett.

There were family flowers only, but donations in lieu for the Pembrokeshire Blind Society can be sent to Melanie Jenkins, 6 Castle Road, St Ishmaels.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs A. W. Knight

Neyland

THE death of Angela Wendy Knight, of Neyland Hill, Neyland, occurred on December 7th. She was 67.

A native of Tenby, she worked in Squibb’s Studio, then as a caretaker at Neyland Infants’ School and as a carer at Neyland House. She retired five years ago.

She also did voluntary work for the British Red Cross in Pembroke Dock.

Family left to mourn and the principal mourners are Louis (husband); Allison (daughter); Andrew (son); Dulcie (mother); Jennifer (sister-in-law); Richard and Kathy (brother and sister-in-law); Jane, Wendy and Ann (family friends), together with many other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held at Bethesda Chapel, Neyland, on December 12th, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. Rev Steve Lee officiated.

Unable to attend were Frank (son-in-law, Germany); Laura and Michelle (grandchildren, Germany); David (brother-in-law); Charles and Gwen (brother and sister-in-law).

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for the Paul Sartori Foundation, 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs D. E. A. Evans

Ludchurch

The death of Doreen Elizabeth Ann Evans occurred on December 8th, following a long illness. She was 79.

Born at Roadside, Ludchurch, she trained as a nurse in the County Hospital at Haverfordwest, later qualifying as a midwife and becoming a sister on the Princess Royal Ward in the hospital.

Following her marriage to Eric, she moved to Atherstone in Warwickshire, where she obtained a post as deputy matron in a care home. Within 18 months she was promoted to Matron of a home in Stratford-on-Avon and she occupied this post until her retirement in 1989, when she moved back to Ludchurch at Woodland Vale Egypt.

Doreen’s many skills included cooking, knitting, crocheting, cake icing and flower arranging.

In her retirement she was largely responsible for planning the development of the garden at Woodland Vale, where she continued her lifelong enthusiasm for fundraising, especially for the church at Ludchurch, of which she was a devoted member.

Predeceased by her brother Derek, she leaves to mourn: Eric (husband); Melvyn (brother); Vicki and Bill, Paul and Anais, David and Karen, Nigel and Nicki, Sian and David (nieces and nephews and their spouses), together with numerous great nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on Saturday, December 20th. The eulogy was given by Paul Evans and the service, was led by Rev Sarah Geech.

Donations, if desired, for Meddygfa Rhiannon Doctor’s Surgery, Narberth, may be sent to E. C. Thomas and Son, Stepaside, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs B. Finn

Hakin

THE funeral of Beryl Finn, of Nelson Avenue, Hakin, took place at St Michael’s Church, Hakin, on December 22nd, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth. She died at Withybush Hospital on December 14th, aged 81.

A native of Hakin, she left school to work as a fishing net maker at the Grimsby Stores.

After her marriage she worked at the Solatron (Consort) factory until her retirement in the 1980s. She continued on a part-time basis at the Hubberston centre working in the coffee bar.

Beryl’s main interest was her family.

She enjoyed the outdoor life, particularly walking on the Pembrokeshire beaches.

She was a member of Hakin pensioners club and a keen supporter of Milford Haven Town Band and the dancing club.

She was predeceased by her husband. Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Alan and Pat (son and partner); Margaret and John (daughter and son-in-law); Jean and Greg (daughter and partner); Phillip and Joanne (son and daughter-in-law); Stephen, Andrea, Melanie, Gary, Nicola, Natasha, Barry, Ciaran and Connor (grandchildren); 12 great- grandchildren; Bernie, Audrey and Betty and their spouses (brothers and sisters), plus nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The funeral at St Mary’s Church, Hakin, and cremation at Parc Gwyn, was officiated by Rev Alan Chadwick. The bearers were Stephen, Gary, Barry and Ciaran (grandsons).

Donations in lieu of flowers for the Welsh Air Ambulance can be made to the Nat West Bank.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.
