Mr I. D.ABSALOM HAVERFORDWEST The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on February 9th of Idris David Absalom, of Haven Park Drive, Haverfordwest.
Idris was born and brought up at The Causeway, Camrose and was educated at Camrose North school.
On leaving school, he farmed at The Causeway with his father and grandparents. He spent all his working life farming, until his retirement 20 years ago, when he and his wife Iris moved to Haverfordwest.
He loved all aspects of country life, particularly rough shooting and fishing.
He also enjoyed watching Camrose Football club and supported the team for many years in its early days. He was enthusiastic about sport, having played cricket for Haverfordwest in his youth.
After his retirement, he enjoyed travelling and regularly attended antique and book fairs throughout the country. He also had an incredible knowledge of Pembrokeshire people and places.
Idris was a devoted family man, who was happiest when surrounded by his family.
He was predeceased by his sister Nesta in 1991.
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on February 14th, officiated by Rev Anthony Bailey.
The bearers were Denley Absalom, Reg Goddard, Paul Husband and Jason Morgan. Stephen Husband handed out the leaflets.
The principal mourners were: Iris Absalom (wife); Paul Absalom (son); Hilary and Denley Absalom (daughter and son-in-law); Amanda Absalom, Alison and Jason Morgan (grandchildren): Glyn and Laura Absalom (brother & sister-in-law), Helen Absalom, Lorraine Absalom and Stuart Price, Sandra Davies, Valerie Husband (nieces); plus many other relatives, friends and neighbours.
There were family flowers only, but donations in lieu for the chemotherapy unit, Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, may be sent to Ken Davies, Blaenwern, Clynderwen, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mrs B. Williams Freystrop Beryl Williams (nee Rees) died at Williamston Nursing Home on February 5th after a long illness, aged 82.
Beryl was born in Mathry, the second daughter of Jim and Minnie Rees. They later moved to Castlemorris where she worked in the shop and also in Trecwn.
She married Jimmy in 1951 and had two daughters, Susan and Jayne. The family took over New Road Service Station in 1965 and Beryl became a working partner in the business.
As she neared retirement age, Beryl developed Parkinson’s disease.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Jimmy (husband); Susan and Jayne (daughters); Robert (son-in-law); Mabel and Ann (sisters); Lloyd (brother); Sian, Alan and David (nieces and nephews).
The funeral took place at Llangloffan chapel followed by interment at Llangloffan Cemetery.
Rev Martin Evans and Rev E. Jones officiated.
Mrs L. A. Dooley Fishguard The funeral of Lucy Annette Dooley was held at the Holy Name Church, Fishguard on February 17th. She died on February 4th, aged 96.
Lucy was educated at the Brompton Oratory.
Lucy brought up her two children, Alexander and Margaret, on her own after her first husband William Morton was killed in action serving in the Middle East.
During the Second World War Lucy worked in the war rooms at the Geographical Museum, London before joining the Ministry of Works at the ancient monument section.
She later worked as a medical records clerk at Westminster Hospital, before joining the Land Registry, then a government department dealing with furnishing embassies abroad.
In her sixties she married James Dooley and spent many happy years in Warrington, before being widowed again.
She moved to Fishguard in 1995 and spent 14 years with her daughter Margaret and her family, where she enjoyed shopping and visiting the library.
The funeral was celebrated by Monsignor Clyde Hughes Johnson, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Narberth.
Lucy’s ashes will be interred at Windsor Cemetery with her parents at a later date.
The principal mourners are: Margaret (daughter); Graham (son-in-law); Alexander (son); Kathlyn (daughter-in-law); William and Peter (grandsons); Teresa and Alan (granddaughter and husband); Andrew and Sandra (grandson and partner); Jamie-Leigh and Jodie (great-granddaughters).
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fishguard.
Mr R. W. Lewis Little Newcastle The death of Richard Wynn Lewis, of Colston Villa, Little Newcastle, occurred at his home on February 12th. He was 63.
A native of Little Newcastle, he worked for the County Council as a fitter and mechanic in the highways department until ill health forced him to take early retirement in 1999.
He was a keen gardener, enjoyed all things mechanical, and had an interest in classic tractors.
He was a well-known character, who was liked for his good sense of humour.
He was also a volunteer with the Welsh Ambulance Car Service.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Janet Lewis (wife); Helen Lewis and Gavin (daughter and friend); Brenda Evans (mother); Darryl and Eirlys Evans (brother and sister-in-law); Mary Morgan (sister); Nan and Dai Llewellin, Betty and John Devereaux (sisters and brothers-in-law); nephews and nieces, together with many other relatives and friends.
A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral at St Peter’s church Little Newcastle followed by interment at the adjoining cemetery, on February 18th.
Rev Roger Griffiths officiated.
The bearers were Richard Pepper, Neville Evans, Graham Davies, Ian Cousins, John Howells and Clarence Bowen.
There were family flowers only with donations in lieu, if desired, for Ataxia Society UK to William Lewis, Ford Bungalow, Wolfscastle, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mr R. Morris Fishguard The funeral took place recently of Randal Morris, who died at Withybush Hospital on February 14th, aged 80.
Randal was born at Wallis Street, Fishguard and on leaving school he worked at the RNAD Trecwn until his national service, which was spent mostly in Fayed, Egypt.
He returned to Trecwn and was later transferred to Londonderry, Northern Ireland and then Durban, South Africa.
In 1962 he joined his brother at Roy Morris’ Electrical Shop where he remained for 40 years until his retirement.
Randal was a faithful member of St Mary’s Church, and had been a sub-warden and member of the Parochial Church Council for a number of years.
He was a staunch worker and a member of the Labour Party and also enjoyed being a member of the local quiz team and in later years as Quiz Master.
The principal mourners were: Margaret (sister); Roy and Mair (brother and sister-in-law); Helen and Mark (niece and husband); Vanessa (niece); Jemma, Lauren, Naomi, Kevin and Wil (great-nieces and great-nephews); Graham, John and Susan, Ann, Lee and Jane, Russel and Jackie, Gaynor, Kate and Emma, Rhys and Marian, Eira and Bryan (cousins) and friends too numerous to mention.
The service was held at St Mary’s Church, Fishguard, followed by interment at St Mary’s Cemetery and was officiated by Rev Don MacGregor and Canon Bob Morgan, with Rev D. Carl Williams and Rev John Roberts also present.
The eulogy was given by Ken Davies, (close friend) and the bearers were Arthur Bean, Richard Jenkins, Owen Worth, Phil Jones, Ian Jenkins, Bryn Davies and John Leahy.
The organist was Dr Dick Russill.
There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Fishguard Health Centre and the medical department at Withybush Hospital to Paul Jenkins and sons Funeral Directors, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mrs J. E. Brown Pembroke Dock The death occurred at South Pembrokeshire Hospital on February 12th of Joyce Eileen Brown, of Wellington Street, Pembroke Dock. She was 84.
A native of Pembroke Dock, she had her own business as a hairdresser in the town’s Queen Street and after retiring, she helped out at her son’s laundrette in Laws Street.
Her interests included her home, family and garden, and she also enjoyed knitting and collecting china dolls and thimbles.
She was predeceased by her husband Horton William Brown in 1998.
Family left to mourn are: Paul and Mon (son and partner); Kara and Peter (step-granddaughter and husband); Angelo and Dario (great-step-grandchildren); Graham and Shirley Pugh, Jenny Hill, Margue and David Hammon (cousins); Sheryl, Sandra, Phil, Jayne and Drew (cousins and husbands); Derek, Peter and Glynda (nephews and wife); Dean (great-nephews); Ralph Tiddcombe (close friend).
The funeral was held at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock on February 19th, followed by interment at Pembroke Dock and was officiated by Rev Nigel Thomas.
The bearers were Graham Pugh, Philip Le-Cornu; Drew Malloy and Peter Rossi.
There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Sunderland ward, South Pembs Hospital to Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, Stepaside.
Mrs D. P. P. Phillips Pembroke Dorothy Primrose Patricia Phillips, known as Dot, of The Green, Pembroke, died on February 1st, aged 79.
Born at Coachlands, Redberth, Dot was the local postwoman in Cresselly in her younger days.
She married Dennis and lived locally before moving to Poole in Dorset.
She travelled extensively with Dennis during his army career and looked after their seven children.
After returning to live in Pembrokeshire, Dot worked as a cook in local residential homes and also at South Pembrokeshire Hospital. Dot was best known for her position as the lollipop lady at the bottom of Bush Hill in Pembroke for many years.
Her main interests were her family, gardening, crochet and radio. Dot also enjoyed watching sports on television and social gatherings with friends, especially bingo.
She was predeceased by her husband Dennis George Phillips in 1992.
A private family service was held at West Furzton Farm followed by the funeral and interment at Jeffreyston Church on February 10th. Father Paul Davies officiated and the organist was Mrs Thomas.
The bearers were Roger, Tim, Rodney and Dennis (sons).
Family left to mourn are Denise and Mike, Pat and Mel (daughters and sons-in-law); Roger and Marilyn, Tim and Sue, Rod and Tina, Den and Carol (sons and daughters-in-law); Nicky and Gearóid (daughter and son-in-law) Andrew, Steven, Christopher, Julie, Sarah, Gary, Matthew, Natalie, Anthony, Carly, Ben, Simon, Joanne, Kathryn, Jessica and Rebecca (grandchildren); Leila, Tristan, Tia, Thomas, Libby, Fletcher, Miller, Eden, Millie, Hannah, Robbie, Courtney, Harri and Brandon (great-grandchildren); Paula, Sarah, Ruth, Robbie, Sarah, Lecky, Martin, Clare and Sean (wives and partners of grandchildren); Vera (sister-in-law) plus nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention.
Unable to attend were: Jean Williamson (sister); Allan and Jean Thomas (brother and sister-in-law) Barbara Thomas (sister-in-law) and nieces and nephews.
There were family flowers only, but donations for the Ruth James Trust may be sent to Mr G. Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside.
Mrs G. M. Potter Hakin The death of Gladys Mary Potter occurred recently at her home in Haven Drive, Hakin, Milford Haven. She was 82.
Gladys was born in Llawhaden but moved to Milford Haven after her marriage in 1947.
Gladys was a much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband Phil in 1992 and her sister Doreen in 2003.
The funeral took place at Hubberston Church on February 4th.
The bearers were Anthony and Philip (sons); Raffick Emamboccus (son-in-law); Shariff Emamboccus (grandson).
The principal mourners were: Helen and Raffick (daughter and son-in-law); Anthony and Susan (son and daughter-in-law); Philip and Kate (son and partner); Shariff, Stefan, Nadia, Nadine, Luke, Craig and Karl (grandchildren); Pat, Wally, Alan, Phyllis, Kathy, Henry, Joan, Robbie, Kathleen, Ralph, Barbara and Denis (nieces and nephews); Ian, Melanie and Mandy (great-nephew and nieces); Pam (close friend); Anne, Diane and Sonia (goddaughters), plus friends too numerous to mention.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Peris Rice, Carmarthen.
