The death of Dorothy (Doris) Davies occurred at Montrose Rest Home on March 20th. She was 89, and formerly of Portfield, Haverfordwest.
Doris was predeceased by her husband Reginald in 1997 and she was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There was a large attendance at her funeral, which was held at Parc Gwyn. The service was officiated by Rev Elwyn John and the bearers were Anthony, Paul, Martyn, Barrie, Stephen, Clive, Craig and Ian (grandsons).
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Bernard and Mavis (son and daughter-in-law); Barbara and Reg, Beryl and Ted (daughters and sons-in-law); Anthony and Denise, Paul and Hayley, Martyn and Andrea, Barrie and Michelle, Stephen, Clive, Craig, Ian (grandsons and families), together with friends and families.
There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for the Blind Society to Ted Cardiff, Danbrey, 42 Lindsway Park, Haverfordwest.

Mrs G. M. Thomas
Hook
There was a large attendance at Mount Zion United Reformed Church, Hook, on April 3rd, for the funeral of Grace Megan Thomas, of Lower Quay Road, Hook, who died at South Pembs Hospital on March 27th. She was 86.
Grace was born in Abergwynfi and moved to Hook with her sister Betty and parents David and Margaret Thomas when she was eight. She married Richie Thomas, of Deerland Farm, Llangwm, in 1946 and was happily married for 53 years until Richie’s death in 1999.
Grace was devoted to her family. She was a lifelong member of Mount Zion United Reformed Church.
Rev Steve Woods officiated at the family service and at the church and cemetery.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Christine and David Phillips, Lynne and Michael Lampard (daughters and sons-in-law); Martyn and Nicola Phillips (grandson and wife); Andrina Lampard and Stephen Evans (granddaughter and fiancée); Beth and Matthew Jackson, Fiona and Phillip Livermore (granddaughters and husbands); Nathan and Ben Phillips, Euan Jackson (great grandsons) and extended family and friends.

Merlins Bridge
The death of James John Lewis, of Pembroke Road, Merlins Bridge, occurred at Withybush Hospital on April 28th. He was 80.
Originally from Barry, South Glamorgan, he went to agricultural college in Glos. He then became a farm manager in Wiltshire and Kidwelly. His last job before retiring was a groundsman for the county council, working on school grounds and playing fields.
His interests included his family, gardening and bee keeping, as well as reading and classical music.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Margaret (wife); Georgine and Hector (sister and brother-in-law); Rhian and Richard, Adam and Kate; Non and Daffy, Steven, John and Sarah (daughters, partners and grandchildren).
The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Rev Huw George. The bearers were Richard, Daffy, Steven and John.

Mrs R. Atcherley
Pembroke Dock
A large congregation attended the funeral service of Rose Atcherley, of Lewis Street, Pembroke Dock, following her death on April 5th.
The service was held at Parc Gwyn on April 16th, and was officiated by Rev Roger Hart.
Rose, who was 89, grew up in the Green, Pembroke, and was one of five children. Rose lived and worked in Pembroke until she met her late husband Jim, who predeceased her five years ago. They lived together in Lewis Street for 59 years.
Rose loved having her family around her. She was known as Aunty Rose to almost everyone who knew her.
Left to mourn are: Tony (son); Brian and Irene (son and daughter-in-law); June and Charlie (daughter and son-in-law); Sara and Steve (daughter and son-in-law); Violet Cupika and Daphne Atcherley (sisters-in-law); Stephen (grandson); Richard and Rachel (grandson and partner); Ann and Tony (granddaughter and husband); Julie (granddaughter); Claire and Nathan (granddaughter and husband); Stephen (grandson); Samantha, Emma, Luke, Josh, Leonie, Tori, Robbie, Jacob and Samuel (great grandchildren); Ruby and Milly (great great grandchildren) and also her extended family, the Brabon brothers, who Rose thought of as her own family.

Mathry
Martha Ann Jenkins, of Preseli View, Mathry, died on Sunday, April 26th, at her home.
The funeral took place on Saturday, May 2nd, at Llangloffan Baptist Chapel and was followed by interment in the chapel cemetery. The service was led by Rev Emlyn Jones, Rev Aled Jenkins and Father Alan Salmon.
Principal mourners are: Ken and Maureen (son and daughter-in-law), Wyn and Susan (son and daughter-in-law), Glenys (daughter); Janet and Mark, Andrew, Sharon and Karl, Stephen and Rhian, Rachel and David (grandchildren and partners); Sarah, Sian, Oliver, James and Isobel (great-grandchildren); Olwen Pearce (sister) together with other relatives too numerous to mention. Unable to attend was Iris Harries (sister-in-law).

Johnston
The death of Ivy Margaret West (Peggy), of Greenhill Park, Johnston, occurred at Withybush Hospital on April 16th. She was 82.
Born in Nolton, she started her working life as a live-in domestic in Milford Haven at the age of 14, and met her husband Ned, while living in Waterston.
After raising her family, she worked as a housekeeper when they were building the Gulf Oil Refinery in Milford Haven. Later she worked for social services as an escort, taking adults with special needs to the day centre in Tenby. She did this until she retired.
Her family were the centre of her life. She also loved cooking and baking.
She was a loyal member of St David’s and St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Haverfordwest, and was also a founder member of Johnston Senior Citizens (Sunshine Club).
She was predeceased by her husband Edward West (Ned), grandson Simon and her daughter Jacquetta.
Left to mourn are: Billy and Diane West (son and daughter-in-law); Kathleen and Gerald Bassett, Jacqueline and Terry Gover, Angela and Domenico Giannuzzi, Tracey and Danny Young (daughters and sons-in-law); Allan Hansen (son-in-law); Matthew, Heidi, Nathan and Hannah; James, Louise and Claire, Charles and Oliver, Nico and Carol, Carina and Daniela, Andrew and Katie, Laura, Luke and Alex (grandchildren); twelve great grandchildren; David Warlow (brother); Dilys and Elwyn Warlow, Betty and Desmond Davies (sisters and brothers-in-law); Honor O’Connor (sister-in-law); Michael West (brother-in-law), together with other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

The service was held at St David’s and St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Haverfordwest, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. Father J. P. Thomas, Father Owen McGreal and deacon Tony Lawrence officiated.
The bearers at the church were Matthew Gover, James Basset, Nathan Gover and Andrew Hansen (grandsons), and at the crematorium Charles West, Oliver West, Nico Giannuzzi, Carlo Giannuzzi, Helmut Reinhardt (grandsons).

Mr S. Belton
Kenilworth (formerly of Hakin)
The death occurred at Kenilworth Manor Nursing Home, Kenilworth, on March 26th of Spenser Belton, originally of Wellington Road, Hakin. He was 86.
A native of Hakin, Spenser was a master butcher, and had his own shop on the corner of Spikes Lane and Upper Hill Street. He originally worked with his father and then ran the shop on his own from the mid 1960s. He ran the business until 1982, when he retired.
During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Signals.
Spencer’s interests included being a past president of the Rotary Club, latterly an honorary member. He was also a member of the Pembrokeshire Yacht Club, the Waterloo Club, and the British Legion.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed travel.He was a lifelong member of St Mary’s Church, Hakin, and served as a churchwarden for six years during the 1980s and as treasurer for 20 years.
His wife, Christina Belton (Chrissie) died in October 2004. Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Andrew Belton (son), Kath and Pete Warren, Paul Warren, Joan and Frank Yeomans, Jaime Yeomans, Dorothy and John Beckett, Philip Edwards, Ralph Martin, Winnie James.
Unable to attend were Nancy Martin, Niall and Vanessa Yoemans and Steph Yeomans.
The service was held at St Mary’s Church, Milford Haven, and was officiated by Rev Alan Chadwick and Rev Bill Lewis. The bearers were Paul Warren, Philip Edwards, Jaime Yeomans and David Burrows.

The death of Margaret Haddon, of Redcross House, Milford Haven, occurred at Withybush Hospital on May 3rd. She was 73.
Originally from Glasgow, Margaret worked at the Old Smoke House in Milford Docks and Norman Industries, Haverfordwest.
She enjoyed bingo, gardening, reading and crosswords.
Family left to mourn are Peter Haddon (husband); Arlene, Angela and Ann (daughters); Alan (son); Jonathan and Sonia (stepson and partner); James, Luke, Andrew, Zoe, Becky, Kirsty, Ceri, Bethan, Luke and Ben (grandchildren); Alannis, Bethany-Jade, Kaci-Jo, Logan McKenzie, Lucy and Lacey (great grandchildren); Suzanne Haddon (stepdaughter); Kirsty and Jill Haddon (grandchildren).

Mrs J. G. Squelch
Poyston Cross
Janet Squelch died at Withybush Hospital on April 16th, following a short stay. She was 64.
A native of Haverford-west, she worked as a passenger assistant for pupils attending Portfield School.
Family left to mourn are: Peter (husband); Daryl and Joanne (children); Michael (son-in-law); Dewi and Ron (brothers); Diane (sister-in-law).
The funeral was held at St Michael’s Church, Rudbaxton, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. It was officiated by Canon G. Gwyther, Rev G. Eynon and Rev P. Davies.
The bearers were Michael Honey, David Squelch, Paul Squelch and Phillip Squelch.

Mr I. G. Williams
New hedges
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, on Wednesday, May 6th, of Mr Ivor Gwyn Williams of Lodge Cottage, Lodge Farm, New Hedges, who died at Withybush Hospital, on April 28th. He was 73.
Gwyn is survived by his wife Sonia, daughter Alysson and grandchildren Aaron and Reuben.
He was born at Lodge Farm on December 1st, 1935, to Harry and Violet Williams. Gwyn had two older brothers; Gryff, who died prematurely in 1956, and Colwyn, a former mayor of Tenby in the late 1970s.
On leaving school, Gwyn worked on the farm and helped on the well established milk round for his Uncle Vincent and Mother Vi.
During the early 1950s he became an active member of Tenby YFC and was its chairman during the 1958-59 season.
With his uncle Tudor and Vincent and mother Vi so successful in the horse world, it wasn’t long before Gwyn too got involved with them in hunting, point-to-pointing and showing. Gwyn rode with the greats of his time, Fred Mathias, Jack Phelps, Howard Lewis, Howard Scourfield, the Llewellins, Birt, Dick, John and Derrick, among many others.
Included among the many horses he rode were Cressing and Bushy Path, both trained at home.
After marrying Sonia in 1963, the couple made their first home at Twy Cross, New Hedges, before moving to West Holloway where they spent 18 years.
Following the deaths of his Uncle Vincent in 1981 and mother Vi in 1982, Gwyn and Sonia moved to The Lodge where they lived till their retirement.
Throughout his life, Gwyn was a supporter of Tenby Hunt Week, particularly when his mother was secretary for more than 25 years and also when Sonia took over.
After hanging up his racing boots Gwyn continued his involvement by assisting Alysson in training Hampton Boy and Bancyfelin Boy.
Gwyn was very proud of the fact that he was once one of the most senior members of the South Pembs Point to Point committee and had been judge at the Easter Monday Races for many years.
Among his other interests were his membership of the Conservative Club and lifeboat committees, his passion for darts and he was also a bingo caller for many years.
In his later years, he had enjoyed the company of his two grandsons Aaron and Reuben whom he adored.

Mr K.H.G. Edwards
Freshwater East
The death occurred of Keith Edwards, of Freshwater East, at Ashdale Nursing Home in Pembroke on April 22nd. He was 74.
He was born in Pembroke in 1934, the eldest son of Cyril and Gwen, and the family moved to Lamphey shortly after.
Keith attended primary school in Lamphey followed by Pembroke Dock Grammar.
He joined the RAF for national service, and was trained as a ground radar mechanic and stationed in Germany.
He later spent time at Castlemartin Range, RAF St Twynells, RAF East Blockhouse, RAF Northolt in London and finally RAF St Athan in Cardiff, where he retired in 1994 as avionics manager, having worked on nearly all military frontline aircraft.
He was married to Gill for more than 40 years after they built their home in Freshwater East in the 1960s. Gill died in September of last year.
Keith played rugby for Pembroke and was captain for a period in the 1960s. He then played hockey for many years for Lamphey, which then became South Pembs Hockey Club then Carew Rooks, his final role was as their president.
For nearly 50 years he represented Lamphey Cricket Club as a player, chairman, president and groundsman. During his later years, he umpired both hockey and cricket within the county.
A member of many local committees including Lamphey Village Hall, Playing Field and Cricket Club, Lamphey Parish and Community Council and Pembroke Rural District Council, he as an enthusiastic fundraiser for all community events.
The funeral took place at a full St Michael’s Church in Pembroke, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, in Narberth, on May 1st. The services were officiated by Rev Martin Cox.
The bearers were Michael Colley, Newton Thomas, Michael Logan and Philip Bowen.

Miss E. James
Pembroke Dock
The death occurred on April 26th of Evelyn (known as Evie) Mary James, of Lewis Street, Pembroke Dock. She died at Withybush Hospital after a short stay at the age of 91.
Evie was born in Lewis Street in 1917 and had lived there all her life in the family home.
As a young woman, Evie worked at the Grand Cinema in Lower Meyrick Street, first as an usherette and later as a cashier in the box office.
When the cinema closed she worked for Davies Steel and Granger Tubolt until she retired.
In later life she shared her home with her brother Llewellyn James and cared for him through his last illness.
Evie loved the sun and spent much time with her friends on the beach at Tenby and Freshwater East.
She also loved dancing at the Temperance Hall that is now the Pater Hall.
Although Evie never married and had children of her own, she was a generous and much loved auntie to all her nephews and nieces.
For the past few years she was unable to get out and about due to mobility problems, but her door was always open to neighbours and visitors.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Anne Robson, Dennis and Jean Williams, Julie and Alan Young, Judy and John Griffiths, Angela and Gerry Gommo, Susan and Morris Maywell, together with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and neighbours.
The service was held at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock, and was officiated by Rev Nigel Thomas.

Mr J. D. E. S. Evans
Little Newcastle
The death occurred on April 5th of James David Edward Stanley (Teddy) Evans, of Maesyrafon, Little Newcastle. He died at Withybush Hospital, aged 90.
A native of Pembrokeshire, he farmed all his life at Maesyrafon, showing cattle from his pedigree Holstein herd.
His family were his main interest, and he took great delight in his grand-daughters and his two great grandsons.
He was a past president of Fishguard Show, a life member of Llysyfran YFC and a member of South Wales Holstein Club.
He was also a member of St Mary’s Church, Puncheston.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Sally Evans (wife); John and Margaret Evans (son and daughter-in-law); Elaine and Robin Phillips; Eleri, Gerald, Sion and Ifan Thomas; Catrin Evans and Richard James; Nia and Ben Llewellin.
The funeral service was held at St Peter’s Church, Little Newcastle, and was officiated by Rev Roger Griffiths.
The organist was Richard Davies and the bearers were Robin Phillips, Gerald Thomas, Richard James and Ben Llewellin.

Mrs P. Daniel
Llawhaden
The death occurred at Castle View, Llawhaden, of Phyllis Daniel, on May 1st. She was 85.
She was born in India and moved to Tenby after marrying Iorrie Daniel in 1946, and moved to Haverfordwest in 1967. She lived in College Court and later moved to Castle View in 2001 after her husband died in 1996.
She served in the army in New Delhi, India, during the Second World War.
Phyllis was a keen member of Haverfordwest Bowling Club, and past secretary and president of Haverfordwest Townswomen’s Guild.
She was a staunch, long serving member of St John’s Church in Tenby and Tabernacle in Haverfordwest.
Principal mourners and family left to mourn are Christopher (son); Allannah (daughter-in-law); Richard Hardwick (brother); Philip, David, Ian, Alan and their spouses and family, Brian and Margaret Daniel (nephews); Margaret and Terry Rees (niece); friends from Haverfordwest Bowling Club, Townswomen’s Guild, Haverfordwest, Tabernacle Haverfordwest, Castle View, Llawhaden, and Mike and Sheila Rossiter, of Tenby.

Pentlepoir
The death occurred on March 21st of Mrs Enid Marjorie Heath of Pentle Close, Pentlepoir. She died at her home, aged 86.
Originally from Birmingham, she was the proprietor of a soft furnishings and baby clothes shop in Pembroke Dock.
During the war years she was a chauffeur.
She enjoyed gardening, arts, painting and also sewing.
Friends and principal mourners are: Marion (dear friend); Maxine and family, Pam and Terry, Sharon, Phillip and Margaret, Pam Lewis, Alan Davies, Kim and Andrew Evans, Chris and Angela (close friends) together with other friends and neighbours.

Narberth
Selwyn Jones, of Garfield Gardens, Narberth, died on March 29th at Withybush Hospital. He was 74.
A native of Llawhaden, his working life started when he took a building apprenticeship with T Adams and Son, and he spent all his working life as a building contractor. He was in partnership with Wyndham Rowlands for a number of years.
After retiring from building ten years ago, he continued to advise his three sons who followed in his footsteps.
He did his national service for the RAF from 1956 to 1958 when he was a chef.
His interests included being a member of Narberth RAOB and RFC for a numbers of years. He had an interest in rugby and cricket, and also enjoyed fishing.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Lena (wife); Jenny (daughter); Ralph, Clive, Keith and Delme (sons); John (son-in-law); Dena and Eleri (daughters-in-law); 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild; Gareth (brother); Heather and Brian, Bronwen, Brenda and Mike (sisters and brothers-in-law); Mick (brother-in-law); Beryl and Peter, Ethel and Brenig, Florence and Len (sisters and brothers-in-law); Wyn and Kathy (brother-in-law and partner), plus nephews and nieces too numerous to mention.

Mrs S. G. J. Griffiths
Pencader
The death occurred on March 20th of Sarah Georgina Jane Griffiths, at Maesyfelin Care Home, Drefach, Llanybydder. She was formerly from Pencader, Carmarthen, and was 105.
Originally from Haverfordwest, she was the wife of Archibald Bowen Griffiths, who was the ironmonger at Bridgend Square, Haverfordwest, for 50 years. She was predeceased by Archibald in 1982.
Principal mourners are: Helen Davies (daughter); Jacqueline Jeremiah, James Davies and Vicky, Gale Lawler and Scott (grandchildren); Philip Davies, Katie Davies, Georgina Jeremiah, Archie Lawler and Erin Lawler (great grandchildren), plus numerous nieces and nephews.

The death occurred of Mr Clarence Sellwood of Bartletts Well Road, Sageston at Withybush Hospital on April 13th. He was 75.
Originally from Gwent, the principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Robin and Helen, Brian and Martha (sons and daughters-in-law); Helen and Lynn, Caroline and Adrian (daughters and sons-in-law); Owen, Eloisa, Matthew, Talia, Leah and Lauren (grandchildren); Eileen (sister); Mary and Joan (sisters-in-law).
The funeral was held at Carew Wesley Chapel followed by interment at Carew Cheriton Cemetery and was officiated by Rev Thelma Barber.
The bearers were Adrian Merriman, Lynn Watkins, Martin Day and Michael James.
There were family flowers only with donations, if desired for the Paul Sartori Foundation, to E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, who carried out the funeral arrangements.

Pembroke Dock
The funeral took place on Friday. May 1st, of Brian William Jancey of Penfro Place, Pembroke Dock, who died at South Pembrokeshire Hospital after a two-month stay on April 22nd. He was 77.
Brian lived and worked abroad for most of his life but chose to spend his last few years in his home town.
The family left to mourn are: Bente Jancey (wife); Boyd and Susanne Jancey (son and daughter-in-law); Pearl and Peter Nordstroem (daughter and son-in-law); Nicholas Jancey and Sarah Moerch (son and daughter-in-law); Morten and Bjoerg Jancey (son and daughter-in-law); Christine and Kalle Kjelstrup (daughter and son-in-law); Rosemary Jenkins (sister); Celina, William, Lea, Oliver, Victoria, Filippa, Adrian, Nora, Katinka, Karianne, Cecile (grandchildren).
The funeral was held at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock, followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery, Pembroke Dock.
It was officiated by the Rev Nigel Thomas and the bearers were Bente (wife), Pearl and Christine (daughters), Boyd, Nicholas and Morten (sons).
The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, Pembroke Dock.
