Mrs M. Haddon
Milford Haven
The death of Margaret Haddon, of Redcross House, Milford Haven, occurred at Withybush Hospital on May 3rd. She was 73.
Originally from Glasgow, Margaret worked at the Old Smoke House in Milford Docks and Norman Industries, Haverfordwest.
She enjoyed bingo, gardening, reading and crosswords.
Family left to mourn are: Peter Haddon (husband); Arlene, Angela and Ann (daughters); Alan (son); Jonathan and Sonia (stepson and partner); James, Luke, Andrew, Zoe, Becky, Kirsty, Ceri, Bethan, Luke and Ben (grandchildren); Alannis, Bethany-Jade, Kaci-Jo, Logan McKenzie, Lucy and Lacey (great grandchildren); Suzanne Haddon (stepdaughter); Kirsty and Jill Haddon (grandchildren).
The principal mourners are: Peter Haddon (husband), Angela and Mark Ryan, Arlene Haynes, Ann Haynes and Eric, Alan and Karen Haynes, Jonathan and Sonia Haddon, Lenny and Zoe, Andrew, Becky, Kirsty, Ceri, Bethan, James and Luke, Luke and Ben Haddon, Dorothy, Johnnie, Glenis, Dennis, Midge, John (sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law), Ming Runciman (lifelong friend), Peter Runciman and families (lifelong friends), Jenny and Andrew Forrest, Rena Jones, Bobby and Jan Morgan, Ceri, Steven and Hayden Diamond, Keith Griffiths, June Lee (neighbours and friends).
The service was held at Parc Gwyn, officiated by Rev Martyn Evans. The bearers were Mark Ryan, Alan Haynes, Ben Haddon, and Jonathon Haddon.
Donations may be sent to ward ten trust fund, Withybush Hospital.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.
Mr P. R. Smith
Whitland (formerly of Lampeter Velfrey)
The death of Philip Roger Smith, of Spring Gardens, Whitland, occurred at Withybush Hospital on April 20th. He was 39.
Originally from Lampeter Velfrey, Narberth, he was educated at Tavernspite CP School and Narberth’s Secondary School. He began his working life on a youth training scheme with Mason Tool Hire in Narberth and then on Skomer Island. He then started his career working with Glyn Williams at Folly Farm. Roger had been at Folly Farm from the beginning and played a big part in the development of the farm and also the zoo.
His main interests were being a keen Scarlets and Wales rugby fan. He was a regular at Stradey Park, the Millennium Stadium and was also present at the opening of Parc y Scarlets.
Roger enjoyed cycling and last year took part and completed the 116-mile tour of Pembrokeshire to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Brian and Anne Smith (father and mother); Hazel and Paul Evans (sister and brother-in-law); David and Hannah Smith (brother and sister-in-law); Angela Thomas (fiancée); Eileen Griffiths (grandmother); Tudor and Janet Thomas, Ffion and Elin Evans, Megan Smith (nieces); Robert and Ann-Marie Benjamin, Malcolm and Heather Smith (uncles and aunts); Gethin and Sion Benjamin and Isobel and Philip Bowen (cousins). There was also many family and friends too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were Roger’s godparents Peter and Judy Ellis from Hong Kong.
The funeral service took place at Parc Gwyn on April 27th and was led by Chancellor Geoffrey Morris. Rev Elwyn John paid a tribute to Roger and Roger’s friend Rebecca Ward read a poem.
The bearers were Peter Thomas, Chris Edsworth, Mike Davies, John Jones, Tony Williams and Kevin Nicholls who were all work mates of Roger from Folly Farm.
There were family flowers only, with donations for Narberth First Response and British Heart Foundation to E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mrs L. E. O’Neil
Formerly of Broad Haven
The death of Mrs Lilian Eileen O’Neil occurred on April 10th at Lynnefield Residential Home. She was 92.
As a native of Broad Haven, Lilian and Tom ran the Plasterers Arms in Dew Street for seven-and-a-half years before retiring in 1979.
Lilian was very much a family person doting on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lilian was predeceased by her daughter, Maureen McNeil, in 1995 and her husband, Tom O’Neil, in 1999.
She was a faithful member of St David’s and St Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Michael and Margaret (son and daughter-in-law); Kathleen and Stuart (daughter and partner); John and Eirwyn (brother and sister-in-law); Joan and Glyn (sister and brother-in-law); grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The service was held on April 17th at St David’s and St Patrick’s Catholic Church, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. Father John Patrick Thomas and Father McGreal officiated.
The bearers were Mark Griffiths, Neil Griffiths, Peter Ross and William Griffiths (grandsons and great grandson).
There were family flowers only with donations for the Paul Sartori Foundation.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.
Mrs E. K. Rodger
Kilgetty
Elizabeth Kitson Rodger, of Oaktree Court, Kilgetty, died on April 17th at Withybush Hospital. She was 83.
Originally from Lanarkshire, Scotland, she was a medical secretary during her working life.
Left to mourn are: Stirling Rodger (son) and Mathieson Rodger (son).
The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn on April 28th and was led by humanist officiant Rosie Taylor.
The bearers were Graham Thomas, Terry Brace, Arthur Evans and Gavin Wright.
There were family flowers only, with donations for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Paul Sartori Foundation to E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mrs P. Walters
Haverfordwest
The death occurred on April 18th of Pauline Walters, of 14 Winch Crescent, Haverfordwest. She was 71.
Family left to mourn are: Marisa (daughter) and Derek (son-in-law), Marcel (son), Tania (daughter) and Romeo (son-in-law), Luana (daughter) and Andrew (son-in-law), Stephen (son) and Sue (daughter-in-law); Carla, Nichole, Kayleigh, Marco, Laura and Andrew (grandchildren); Kai, Kayleigh and Stephanie (great-grandchildren); Michael (brother) and Anna (wife); Marisa (sister) and Rodney (husband); Valia (sister) and Bill (husband) and all family and friends in her native country of Italy.
The requiem mass was held at St David’s and St Patrick’s Church, Haverfordwest, and was officiated by Father John Patrick Thomas, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.
Mr S. Jones
Narberth
Kevin Jones was inadvertently omitted from the obituary of Selwyn Jones, Narberth, in last week’s Western Telegraph (page 79).
Kevin Jones was Mr Jones’ son.
Mr T. G. Lamb
Llawhaden (formerly of Fishguard)
The funeral service, and celebration of the life of Thomas George Lamb, was held at Parc Gwyn on May 12th. Tom, as he was always affectionately known, died at Ridgeway Nursing Home, Llawhaden on May 4th at the age of 95.
He was born in Fishguard and, after schooling at Fishguard Council School, he was all set to make his future in farming. However, he suffered the loss of one leg in a cycling accident when he was 23, and trained for clerical work.
Tom used this skill in numerous ways, particularly for more than 40 years of acting both as treasurer and secretary to the Friends of Withybush Hospital.
He was honoured for his services when ward ten was named after him. He was also awarded the BEM for services to the community, and received Maundy money from the Queen in 1983.
His many other interests included the Haverfordwest Operatic and Dramatic Society, the local male voice choir, the Probus Club and as a deacon at Tabernacle Chapel.
The service was led by Rev C. Gillham, and representatives of other churches in Pembrokeshire.
Principal mourners are: Mattie Francis (Tom’s sister and only surviving close relative), together with nieces and nephews and members of his extended family from Nottingham, London and Germany.
There were family flowers only, but donations for ward ten, Withybush Hospital, may be sent to Bernard Mathias, 64 New Street, St Davids, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mrs M. Reynolds
Solva
Myrtle Reynolds, of Maes yr Eglwys, Solva, died on May 1st, aged 86.
Myrtle’s life began at Pwlle Farm, where she was one of 13 children born to Joe and Catherine Thomas. She left school at 14 to enter service at Lochmeyler. She worked in Trecwn during the war years and moved to GEC in Coventry until 1947, when she and Tommy were married.
She worked in many places locally including Cerbid, looking after holiday homes. Treffynnon became the family home for many years before moving to Solva.
The funeral service was held at St Aidan’s Church, Solva on May 9th, and was officiated by Rev Rhobert Pattinson. Burial followed at Whitchurch Cemetery.
The organist was Rhiannon Fulthorpe and the bearers were Tony Fulthorpe, Ron Beynon, John Lewis and Colin Reynolds.
Principal mourners are: Tommy Reynolds (husband); Robert, Terry and Malcolm (sons); Kathleen and William (daughter and son-in-law); Graham and Liz (son and daughter-in-law); grandchildren and great grandchildren; Henry and Lena Thomas, Herbert and Mary Thomas (brothers and sisters-in-law); Peggy Williams (sister); Erenie Thomas (sister-in-law); Ivor Phillips (brother-in-law), together with numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
There were family flowers only, with donations for the Paul Sartori Foundation to Bernard Mathias, 62 New Street, St Davids, SA62 6SU, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mrs. E. Lanham
Goodwick
The funeral took place on May 15th of Elsie Lanham, of Precelly Crescent, Goodwick, who died on May 6th at Withybush Hospital.
The service took place at St Peter’s Church, Goodwick and was followed by interment at Llanwnda Cemetery.
Rev Brian Barnes officiated. The bearers were James, Jerome, Gareth and Andrew (grandsons), and Stuart Davies and Adrian Hall (great nephews).
Principal mourners were: Ruth (daughter); Robert (son); James, Jerome, Gareth and Andrew (grandsons); Rachel (granddaughter); Hywel (son-in-law); Sandrea Davies (niece) and family; Stuart, Emma and Jade; Dorothy and John Hall (niece and husband), Adrian (great-nephew); Daphne Lanham (sister-in-law); Christopher Lanham (nephew); Mona John (sister-in-law); Mr and Mrs Derek Lanham (brother and sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs Clyde Lewis (nephew), Mr and Mrs Keith Lewis, (nephew); Mr and Mrs Warren Berry (nephew); Mr and Mrs Peter Wilby (nephew); Hadley John, Christopher, Debbie and Emma (nephew and children); Meryl Griffiths and Helen John, together with members of the church, Mothers’ Union, WI and friends too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were Gareth (grandson in Canada) and Martin (son-in-law); Megan Evans and Heather (sister-in-law and daughter); Irene and George (cousins).

Mrs M. I. Gale
Johnston
The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on May 7th of Marilyn Irene Gale, of Johnston. She was 55.
Born and raised in Waterston she began work with Dyfed Cleaners where she learned to drive. Once she married, she became a housewife, returning to work once the children had grown up. After learning IT skills and several temping jobs she then applied for a checkout position at the Tesco store in Pembroke Dock. This was a role she enjoyed until ill health forced her to give up work.
Her main interests were gardening, visiting garden centres and reading. The funeral was held on May 12th at Hamilton Court, Milford Haven, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. The service was led by Rev Martyn Evans.
Left to mourn are: Danny Gale (husband); Ian, Clair and James Gale (son, daughter-in-law and grandson); Brett, Rachel and Ethan Gale (son, daughter-in-law and grandson); Elsie Richards (mother); Mary Frank (sister); Hilary and Glyn Hobbs (sister and brother-in-law); Maureen Hackett (sister); Eileen and Denis Frank (sister and brother-in-law); Glyn and Angela Richards (brother and sister-in-law); Brindley and Pam Richards (brother and sister-in-law); Joyce Richards (sister); Margaret and Nigel Hutchings (close friends).
